Hi Sarah I've been subscribed a few weeks now and working my way through your earlier videos, it's great to see your channel grow as well as your confidence with filming yourself (filming?, how old am I?) on these expeditions and camping alone in the wilderness, I also wild camp around the Peak District as it's on my doorstep/ish (I'm 30 miles south east of Bakewell) but I've never recorded my trips apart from photos and I feel I ought to cus there's gonna come a time when I won't be able to do it anymore (over 60 now, senior citizen status) and I'll only have the memories in my head and no-one can remember everything, it would be a shame if I or anyone for that matter forgot all the good times or even the bad times, it would be great to be able to look back in my old age at footage of where I've been and what I've done, it's too late to record my past but you've inspired me to at least have a go at recording some of my future, at least I'll have something to look back on. I think your a wonderful woman with a ♥of gold, a chirpy attitude and a warm calming voice, you always seem care free, stress free and happy go lucky, I could sit and listen to you chat away for hours, but let's get one thing straight, swimming in a frozen lake ?, you gotta be mad as a box of frogs, if I got in there it'd finish me off, that said, I do admire your zest for life and I hope you live a long and adventurous one, stay safe flower all the best Micky B 😘

What a beautiful comment to read!!! 🥹💜 thank you so much! I hope you do manage to record your outings as I do. After all this is the reason I’ve started a RU-vid channel. What is also really interesting is how in my latest video description (that is currently uploading) I have mentioned how much I feel I’ve grown in confidence, especially filming Myself. It’s not an easy thing to do but I often now talk to my camera like it’s an old friend sat having tea and cake with me. Camping and adventuring alone can feel overwhelming enough never mind thinking about talk I g to 2700 people 😂 ATB and please keep me updated on your video projects 👌🏻Sarah

Brrrrr... Made me feel chilly just watching that... Great stuff though! Loved how the start captured the arrival of autumn so well. I read somewhere recently about the benefits of cold water swimming and how afterwards it give you a tremendous buzz.

Ha ha! Yes the benefits are astounding and hopefully coming down with Illness after the swim was just the worst coincidence 🥶 thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!

You're off yer 'ed lass. Having had more than my fair share of tactical river crossings and other open water swims whilst in the reserves - one in Oslo Fjord in Norway - I have no desire to repeat the experience. Bonkers LOL

😂😂😂 i definitely think there’s a difference between ‘choosing’ to submerge in ice water compared with ‘having’ to get in as a mean from A to B and dare I say fully clothed was it? I prefer skinny dipping, less faff taking stuff off 😂 gowan ya know ya wanna try it 🙌🏻 thanks for watching Andy, I hope your river crossings didn’t cause you too much discomfort, mines quite the opposite, the dopamine and euphoria I feel is something only the Bonkers lot desire 😍 BW, Sarah

Fair play on the wild swimming, I'm not quite brave enough for that, not really a good enough swimmer unfortunately. Looks proper hardcore stuff in the ice 😎💪 Great photos and supporting footage as well Thanks for sharing Atb Mark

Cheers Mark. Although you don’t have to be a strong swimmer to do this. The benefits of cold water therapy is still optimal when the body is submerged stationary. It definitely requires some exposure and self awareness to do it safely and getting the body warmed up sufficiently and slowly is paramount. Dried quickly, warm layers, warm drink, snack and move. Like with anything exposure, practice, confidence…that’s where the magic happens! Oh and a good set of 5mm boots and gloves to protect the extremities 🖐️, BW, Sarah

I love swimming and love being in water, and I go in my clubs Jakuzi at 6.30am every weekday morning! For most they cannot cope as the temperature is hotter than my usual shower temp lol. As for swimming out in that watering hole, no way Jose! You are a better Woman than me (hang on wait a minute lol)!

Ha ha! Believe me I love the warm too but this rather cold peaty dwelling has a different ring to it. Definitely dancing to the beat of my own drum with cold swimming, it’s not for everyone and the usual questions from passers by make me smile but never question my sanity 😂 ok maybe sometimes!

So, spotting mushrooms I saw Mottlegill, a Bolete, poss scarletina or Birch, Orange deceiver (not 100% on that one!) and then fly agaric. I'm just a keen amateur, so might not be 100% . Been spending the last few years trying to learn!!. Wow on the swimming in Ice, never made it into winter!! although I do like it cold in the water! recognised a few of those spots in the lakes too! . Hope you get well soon!

Oh wow that’s awesome 🤩 thank you, your comment really cheered me up (in my foggy cold painful head) with naming the shrooms. I must learn too as I’d love to have the confidence to forage and eat the safe ones. You’ve inspired me ☺️ now is a good time to start swimming into the colder months. It was a barmy 14 C the water and it’s usually on the way down to single figures at this time of year. I still took it steady as I’d not been for many weeks. We stayed in around 40 minutes though cos we had a lot to discuss🥰 quite the coincidence that I’ve come down with what I think is covid that evening but I do have regular exposure to it in my job so expect to get it once a year. Rubbish. Thanks for stopping by Sam, BW, Sarah

@@SoloSarahBX Collins gem mushrooms is good for taking around with you, as it's small and River Cottage Mushrooms & Mushrooms by Roger Phillips are good for home reference. Think the bolete might even be an oak bolete after another look! I've only eaten Wood Blewits and Ceps that I have picked as they were really distinctive (and v tasty!), but did a lot of cross checking!. 14c sounds not too bad, I suppose the wuss factor for me is warming up after! but as long as there's a bit of sun I should be reyt!!! . I've joined a fb group for women that swim in my fave spot on my day off so no excuses! ☺

Hi Sarah, That sure was some heavy-duty dipping, to be in water close to freezing. The closest I’ve ever experienced to that is a garden pool that I kept up until the end of November, think I did manage a number of dips at 4oC🥶. Seem to remember it being addictive and that normal room temperature then felt way too hot. I seem to remember also that the more you do it the easier it is to get back in. I’ve just read that you have Covid🤥, I’m the only person that I know to have had the pleasure of long Covid, so you have my full sympathies. I imagine the cold dipping’s must remove all thoughts of a long shift working for the NHS, I’ve experienced at firsthand how hard you guys work day in day out. I’ve stumbled across a phrase “industrial PTSD”, does that chime any bells? Nice to see your little selection of fungi, no frosts so far so even the fragile ones like Coprinus are surviving, and as far as I know they don’t get Covid🤣😂. Cheers Graham

What a lovely comment, thanks for sharing your cold water experiences too Graham. I know it’s enough to make some people shudder at the thought and I do get some funny looks when I’m in there from hikers and passers by. I feel like it’s a super power, testing my body’s abilities to survive in the cold. Ok I might have pushed it too far at times but it was fixable and I learnt my lesson! Yes yes and yes to the shift work stuff, it’s not an easy profession but it’s a vocation that I take a great deal of satisfaction from. I must watch myself though, it drains my essence. There’s no wonder I do what I do to replenish my own needs and energy . I’m really glad that fungi and dogs don’t get covid 😂 I love them too much, BW, Sarah
