When I saw this, the wolf had a very well placed leaf, and he did this pelvic thrust on the line "Look what you're ignoring." Everyone over ten laughed their asses off. Even my Mom. I was so proud of her. Best musical ever, even by Sondheim standred. Of course, Sweeney shall forever hold a place in my heart.

lol in the version at my school, instead of the witch saying "ohhh" when she heard Rapunzel, she would say funny stuff like "that girl has had perfect pitch since the day she was born" ..& the second time she said "i'd take her on the road if i'd ever let her out of these walls" lol it was hilarious!

the full version of this musical is definitely an adult show. not only there is the wolf's song, but at the end the stepsisters cut off their toes to make the golden slipper fit, to name just one other aspect. but the junior version is cut down so that it is appropriate for a young audience.

the story of red riding hood is actually supposed to be a lesson to young beautiful girls against strange men who might be take advantage of them. So the big bad wolf does actually symbolize a rapist.

That could be it. I mean, Sodheim did his research with the fairytales though and the grimm brothers had symbolism in about every story, I just don't recognize it here

Yes, actually, it is; it's exactly what the Sondheim and Lapine intended for this scene AND exactly what the Brothers Grimm were writing about when they wrote "Little Red Riding Hood": sexual predation.

I'm not entirely sure, I guess you would have to read the original fairy tales of Rapunzel, Cinderella, and Jack and the Beanstalk but I am only familiar with Little Red Riding Hood. I guess they could have some symbolism, you can find a hidden meaning in anything.
@airbear320
@airbear320 15 лет назад

@QueenMickey710
@QueenMickey710 15 лет назад
Yes he does. Little Red Riding Hood, and all other Fairy tales, have themes. Little Red riding hood is about Rape and the danger of strangers. In a few versions, the wolf tells her to take off all of her clothes and get into bed with him.
@Rkerekes13
@Rkerekes13 16 лет назад

@Astrithor

its because a lot of theatre related guys are considered "gay" or "effiminate" which is pretty much unfounded. The only thing "effiminate" about it, i guess, is stage makeup, and even that's not like regular makeup

@Sebastianswain
@Sebastianswain 15 лет назад
During "Hello, Little Girl"? That's the POINT of the song! The Wolf, in this show, or at least this production, AND in the fairy tale is supposed to be a sexual predator.

@Leigh9289
@Leigh9289 17 лет назад
back in the day men were not referred to as pigs they were called wolves so the wolf symbolizes a man and the original grimm's fairy tale had hidden meaning. so the wolf was made to look like a man oh and the cape is red, which symbolizes a girl's first period. so the girl is around 13ish and it shows she is at the age to be thinking about sex and that sort of thing. lol idk if anyone else likes to look at the symbolism behind things but i just think this was cool

No. There's no possible way "Into the Woods" would work as a movie. There are too many funny aspects to it that would only work on stage (like the fake cow for example). Removing them would take away a lot of the humor. "Into the Woods" would never work as a film, and I really hope no one ever tries to make one.
