Dr. Walsh explains why undermethylated depressed (low serotonin) persons respond poorly to all forms of folic acid. To learn more, visit www.walshinstitute.org.
This video helped me SOLVE my insomnia after 1.5 years and multiple doctors. I had low seratonin and had been taking a folic acid supplement. The minute I stopped it I was able to sleep again. Thank you thank you
I've been taking Homocysteine Supreme by Designs for Health for years not feeling better but being compliant and now 17 yrs after they found out about this intolerance to folates, I find out about it. Thank God I finally did.
What can we take since methylfolate causes depression symptoms? I can’t seem to find the answer. When I become undermethylated I feel so sick but when I take methylated B’s I feel amazing for an hour then the depression sets in
@@LuvBugBlaqkHart Why would taking folate to help/aid to gain more methylation be bad if you’re naturally UNDER methylated? I must be having it all wrong…(??)
Hi there Dr. Walsh, firstly, thank you for your amazing research. I'm struggling to find anybody else doing the research you are, so I can't thank you enough for your work. Basically, I am really, really confused about what to do. I can't afford the private tests for histamine, genes, all that stuff, and they definately do not do them on the public health service. I was born Vegan, so I guess I naturally eat loads of folate. I don't know if I'm an undermethylator or an over, but recently I've been taking metafolin with MB12 (been taking that for months) and I seem to feel worse and worse. Yet everybody seems to say folate is essential for methylation. All I can say is that the things that really seem to improve my mood, turmeric, caffeine, Inositol, are all methyl donors. What do I do? Do I cut out all forms of folate? Including metafolin? And food? For ever? Or do I need a little bit for methylation, so maybe just from food? I'd be grateful for your advice. Thanks.
probably you are overmethylator, same affects happen to me while ı was first starting the use mb12 but with folic acid not metafolin.I think ı m overmethylator too and overmethylators can have excess copper level because of the low histamine and some gene defects. You should check on your copper level.İt might be your secret and normalized enemy.
People with issues with taking folates are usually undermethylators. I'm undermethylated. I now have stopped my methylfolate supplement and I'm doing better. Not 100% but I do notice a difference
I don’t feel good when I take prenatals for very long so I just make sure to get it from whole foods and I do much better. I am pregnant with my second baby now. Eggs, oranges and kiwis are my favorites
You have to get Folate from unprocessed food and AVOID Folic Acid from processed foods and multivitamin supplements. Check labels avoid folic acid if you value your health.
And avoid bakery products with added folate. Basically, eat loads of green leafy veg every day, and fresh unprocessed protein. .... nothing out of a packet.
Hi! Do you have a solution to counteract severe brain fog and depression brought on by taking folinic acid? I stopped taking over a month ago and am still having symptoms. Thank you!
Make sure you aren’t eating and pasta, bread or packaged food with folic acid added to it. Most things that come in a package especially non organic contain added folic acid.
My pyschiatrist who trained with Dr Walsh has put me on Folinic acid. Am I am high in histamine, am C677T heterozygous. And apparently my folic acid blood levels need increasing. Feeling a bit confused
High histamine has more causes. Dr. Ben Lynch talks about this. They do not completely agree with eachother on everything. But I appreciate the works of both. There are probiotics and certain cofactors to a certain gene to break down histamine, otherwise the bucket will overflow. Also a lot of food contains histamine like everything that is fermented and strawberries. I take quercetine myself or green tea which contains it as well. Vitamin C and I think it was zinc are also needed.
@@dana102083 👌🏼 They should be taken off the shelves immediately. I don’t know why they’re not… The synthetic folic acid is also put into food stuffs such as Cheerios. What the hell is going on… Oh, I remember - FDA promotes the public to be poisoned.
@@saintjabroni agreed very much. The diets they promote are financial deals with big agriculture and big pharma. A money transaction to line pockets and keeps everyone sucking at the teet.
@@LuvBugBlaqkHart should we not eat or drink foods high in folate too, is it as bad as taking folic acid supplements? like spinach and lentils and orange juice i mean not fortified foods.
I have experienced very severe neurological disorders with the use of PPIs. I have the characteristics under methylation _ I learned this with my own research after the disorder_ I can't get rid of paresthesias, especially pins and needles. What can you suggest me about this?
B12 injection asap. Looks at the Facebook groups vitamin B12 wake up. Get your b12, iron and folate checked asap, but bear in mind the reference ranges are ridiculous and you literally have to be close to death before you will show as B12 deficient. PPIs significantly reduce absorption of B12. Tablets will not work for this level of damage, don't waste time on supplements. Get bloods tested then immediately get your first injection privately hydroxocobalamin and wait for several weeks and see how you feel. You may need them monthly or 6 weekly to heal. Also bear in mind you can have too much of a good thing and spacing them out works better for some, whilst others need more. Good luck.
Folic acid is NOT in fact folate. Folate is a GROUP of not shelf stable B vitamins. Synthetic Folate aka Folic Acid does not contain all of the vitamins. Folic acid is a suspected carcinogen. It is processed in the liver because it’s toxic and it can build up there and cause a lot of problems with nutrient absorption and toxicity. folic acid from processed 0:03 0:03 food and supplements can cause anemia. It can also mask other vitamin deficiencies on the test panel.
Yes. I have MTHFR heterozygous mutation and I cannot take folate due to being undermethylated. I actually overdosed myself for years not realizing it until just this year. If you want to know for sure have your folic acid (folate) serum tested. My doctor who was trained by the Walsh Institute (this dude's institute) said that the normal range is >2.8 ng/ml. You can compare that to your results if you decide to get it tested. Hopefully that helps.

What if you're undermethylated and have adverse reactions to SSRI's, melatonin supplements, 5-HTP supplements, and anything that increases serotonin? I can't handle serotonin at all but I was recently diagnosed with pyrrole disorder and undermethylation. I'm going to start taking SAMe but I'm worried I'm going to have a negative reaction to that as well. I've just had so many bad experiences with doctors that I want to get a second opinion but I have no one else to ask who knows about this stuff.
After your pyrrole disorder gets under control you may have more tolerance to things. Before my pyrrole therapy I had bad reactions to everything. I'm also undermethylated and SAMe helps a lot.
Consider a ketogenic diet. Please search dr georgia ede who is a psychiatrist that uses it in her Practice 🙏 removal of sugar hs numerous positive changes in how our cells function, especially the mitochondria.
@@jpfitness2242 hi, could you be more specific about pyrrole therapy? i'm just taking SAM-e for histamine intolerance and seems to help in some way. (i just started to take it) thank you.
@@zambrocca I've heard that if someone doesn't need at least 300mg of b6 per day they probably don't have pyrrole disorder. I agree to that. 300mg per day is a good dose. I take 400. Zinc varries. Some people may get by with 75 or 80mg per day. I think 100mg per day in 2 50mg doses with food is best. I personally take 150 per day because I have poor absorption. When you take high zinc you have to make sure your copper levels don't get low. If you develop muscle weakness your copper may be low from high doses of zinc.
Folate makes me anxious and fuelled with adrenaline and spaced out. Am I overmethylator? I found I could use niacin to combat it and return to baseline.
Good question. I got the impression - but it's not fully explained - that the individual's genetic expression determines whether undermethylated people can tolerate folate. Per this video, some undermethylated people "get dramatically worse" from folates--not all undermethylated people however. As I heard this, folates generally lower serotonin activity. They impact neurotransmission, esp. serotonin, dopamine and norepinefrine. Perhaps undermethylated patients whose imbalances and deficiencies are already causing depression, experience more extreme reductions due to their genetics.
Some people do not tolerate that either. That's the issue. I think as some people have spme overmethylation amd some snps undermethylate so nothing is ever happy.
