It is important to remember that the psychological types of the MBTI are not absolute measurements; they are relative ones that we use to gauge our psychological orientation relative to others. Though we have dominant functions toward which we inherently lean more, we are not absolutely confined to them; we have the capacity to lean in other directions as well, though it may expend a lot of energy and feel unnatural. What this means is that we can learn how to utilize other functions in the cognitive function stack, though some with greater difficulty than others, especially our inferior and shadow functions.
Learning how to utilize other functions and understand how they work not only develops one's personality and moves one closer towards individuation, but also fosters broader empathy by enabling the understanding of how others perceive their own reality.
