They stopped flying the Concord aircraft because it was so expensive to fly. It was built before there was any kind of high gas prices. It was also built with old technology so it would have to be redesigned if they wanted to modernize it with new instrumentation.

I agree that they stopped flying Concordes because of the cost, but also I think there were safety concerns after one crashed. So people weren't to keen to fly on it after that.

lyndellt The crash was not the fault of the Concorde in any way. Another plane took off from the same runway before the Concorde, and lost a metal strip 17 inches long as it was rolling down the runway. When the Concorde ran over the metal part during its takeoff roll, a tire kicked it up and it punctured one of the fuel tanks exulting in a fire.

Concorde was an issue because of limited seating, they used to generally had to have a few backups at certain airports to ensure one was ready for the high paying customers. Unfortunately given fuel, seating, dependency on backups and lots of other small reasons the cost was far too great. It'll happen again though, soon.

I always find it strange that there was never a cleaner version of Concorde ready to go when the old model was retired. Air travel has gone backwards. Fully agree Cody.

I thought I would watch this video again because it is Fleet Week in NYC. Visiting the Intrepid and the other ships was something I liked to do when I lived there. Thanks for the chance to reminisce.

I love how you guys go out and experience the city. It's so easy to just take it for granted or be overwhelmed with your day to day and forget that there are so many incredible things to do in NYC! Your videos are a great window for me into my time there, keep it up!

Pier 84! Holy sh*t. Summer concerts in the 80s.. The Clash, Elvis Costello, The Smiths, Cindy Lauper, Adam and The Ants (who sailed in on a vintage boat!) Joe Jackson, Madness, the GoGos. Tickets were like 12 bucks! All GA shows

My dad was head of the maintenance crew for the intrepid and as a kid he would bring me and my brother to work and we got to play around all day.

They stopped the Concorde program due to the crash of the Air France flight of Concorde that crashed due to debris on one of the runways. It made a lot of the clientele pull out creating a money pit in the program so they grounded them in 2003. I may be a bit off with my details but that’s what they told us during the tour of the plane!

Why Planes Don’t Fly Any Faster Than They Did in the 1960s????? Hey, about the airplane speed, WHY? well I heard about this a few weeks ago. The reason behind is related to logistic, congestions, etc. If all the planes were faster then you will have a mejor congestion at the airports. the airport system of puttin people on a plane have gotten slower and slower over the time for security reasons. here is an article about it: mentalfloss.com/article/92971/why-planes-dont-fly-any-faster-they-did-1960s

A $33 admission for FREE with a NYC library card! Awesome! I am a big advocate of library cards, but I haven't had a library card that had them kind of perks. Can't wait to see other places you get to visit with your cards.

Really cool. Certainly don't get benefits like that with a library card here in the UK!
