Not really. If you have lived or you are from Europe almost everybody speaks at least 2,3 or more languages. Closest languages like Spanish, Portuguese or Italian are easy to learn and practice. French is a little bit more complicated to speak for the pronunciation but they also do speak Italian, even English and German.

@@andrewrogers1838 The bad reputation of French people comes mainly from parisians. They have a reputation of being rude just like New Yorkers. But if you greet them, say at least Bonjour, Parlez vous anglais, italien will have no problem to help you or talk you back in english, Italian or what ever if they know and talk a little bit of the other language. French people in the south they might even talk in italian because they live close to an Italian town and vice versa. French people are more cold even distant in the north. Paris is like another planet to most French people, some of them they don’t like them. But it is just like NY or LA to most rural Americans. Italian people are very warm, talk very fast, very friendly, love to share things that contrast with the shy, introverted, paused way of the French. Plus you have to understand that most European countries have old wounds from old wars and occupations specially from France, Germany and Russia. My wife is from Lithuania and she doesn’t like either Germans or Russians. Doesn’t matter it happened ten, a hundred or five hundred years ago there is always that resentment. It is all over Europe. Most European people they recognize for example that Italian food is the best even French and Spaniards. They also have great food. But you will never take a word of an Italian or a French in front of each other. They are equally prideful and chauvinistic. Even there is no more frontiers between them.

My father’s parents were immigrants from Sicily. Both of my parents and I were born and raised in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Little Italy was a large, booming community! Italian immigrants lived and worked together, replicated their way of life- including food, trades, stores- in the Lower East Side of Manhattan! After a few generations, though, people moved into “suburban sprawls” to buy homes, etc. I’m so glad that I caught the tail-end of what was a glorious, authentic, Italian-American immigrant experience! I wish you could have experienced it too, Alessio. It was really, really something special. Glad to see Casa D’Angelo carrying it on.

It is good to hear you talking so positively about ‘southerners’ -for too long in Italy calabrese or Sicilian or apuglian were treated terribly in the north but they are the nicest people !!!
@Chet73

It’s because of the Italian tax system. The north is over taxed and sent to the south. It produces a lot of resentment.

(hears French) "French people, what are you doing in Little Italy?" says the Frenchie speaking Italian in Little Italy! 😉But all jokes aside, the neighborhood next door Nolita (stands for North of Little Italy) as well as SoHo (stands for South of Houston Street) has become a hub for the French community with boutiques and cafes. A Little Paris! Also, you said the Big Boss license plate fits you, but I think the Bada Bing license plate above it fits you more 😂

Another neighborhood you could visit is Greenwich Village, which is where the British and Irish expat community is located. Tea & Sympathy on Greenwich Ave and 13th Street is an authentic British tea shop and restaurant selling British candies and snacks. You could get a couple British chocolates and snacks and do a vid comparing them to Italian ones! There's also Myers of Keswick which sells meat pies and snacks as well.

Lol… It’s delicious and you can taste the quality ingredients. I am someone who gets my flour, EVOO, balsamic vinegar and other favorites imported from Italy and you tell the difference. I will also say on the flip side, there are other places in little Italy that are Americanized. This place just isn’t one of them. We also get together to cook, and we cook certain recipes with the same ingredients. What was even funnier was my Swedish mother in law gets in act quite well with certain foods
@yokoakimura
@yokoakimura Год назад
It is not so strange. People think Italians are “white” and “European” like that is supposed to be a definitive distinction that likens all European countries together, but Italy is very much a Mediterranean country, and had a lot of history/trade with the Middle East and Northern Africa. The British isles are going to have more of that northern Viking influence although the Roman influence is definitely there, and they have that cold weather and potatoes culture like a lot of the Northern European states
@sirBrouwer

Little Italy has been eaten by Chinatown. There is only 2 or 3 blocks left, but wow for San Genaro festival - it’s amazing!
