Intricate Victorian Inspired Stained Glass Door Panel Making

These super pretty traditional Victorian inspired door panels left the workshop this week. Headed down to the Surrey Hills to be fitted in my clients new hallway oak door. My client (who's an engineer by trade) learn't the woodworking skills required and actually made the oak door himself! I can't wait to see the photos of this project fitted.

I, personally, would never think about combining a pale yellow and green with cornflower blue, rose and cranberry, but it turned out really nice. When you stand them up, the yellow and green look almost clear, letting the bolder colors stand out. I really love the floral panels behind you, on the right, while you are working with the glass. 🙂

That's the fun of every project, you never really know how the colours are going to look until that first lift off the bench after soldering. Whenever the glass is laid down flat there isn't any light passing through. It's the fun game of trusting the gut feeling 😂😂

These turned out to be quite lovely. Does the client give you free rein on colors, or does one indicate preference? Also, would you consider a tour of your workshop in the future? I would be interested to see how you are set up, and what you use for each step. Thank you for releasing beauty into the world.

We always work together. But I do try to use my experience when they'll listen 😂. Regarding my workshop it is closed to the public I'm afraid, if I let people in to visit I'll never be able to get any work done 😂🍻

Its so interesting to see the difference between how its made in america compared to germany ^^ last year I still used to do stainedglass windows in a school too :] I really loved it but after graduation I didn't manage to find a workshop that still does this amazing art :[ I really have trouble finding a job or a new profession to study now

I love your work. I was wondering, what do you do with all the glass bits and shards you break off? Are they discarded or do you use them for some other type of glass art project?

I keep using any pieces I can to use in smaller projects as glass is getting more and more expensive

Hi Thankyou fir sharing yr amazing work, do you come up with all yr designs on computer? And i noticed you dont use whiting do you not need to use that, ive only been doing stained glass for 2 years but using whiting was how i was taught, Thankyou 😊

Thank you buddy 🍻, I come up with the design ideas in my head then use a computer program that I had made a few years ago to make them. Whiting wise I'm not the biggest fan of the mess everywhere so I chose not to use it 🤜💥🤛
