We menstruate because, when an egg is not fertilized, the uterus sheds it's inner lining and the women excretes the tissue as blood. This prepares the uterus for the next opportunity for conception. Day 1 of a woman's cycle is considered the first day of red bleeding. Women usually (in a "normal" 28 day cycle) will ovulate on or around day 14, which is obviously the most fertile time. The egg is fertilized on its way to the uterus (or not). If it IS fertilized, the egg attaches itself to the lining of the uterus and no bleeding occurs that month. If it is NOT fertilized, then again... the uterine lining sheds as blood as a period. I have moon in my 3rd house in Cap, and had fertility issues for both pregnancies. Never had a regular periods either.
