I remember watching this series when I was 13. It got me so interested in the subject. I made me want to become a psychologist. Now I'm 18 and will graduate from school next year. I've been determined and put down effort into my school work and will (if I keep my grades relatively good), be able to get into the 5 year (+ 1 year of practice) psychology program to become a licensed psychologist. It’s been such a long time since this video was posted so you'll probably not see this, but thank you so much, Hank
@@ricardomojica8357 I think it depends. But once you understand the way you have to think, it's easy. If you're interested, I'd say you'll manage quite easily :) good luck!
***** Nice. You should consider writing a book. I relate to many of your descriptions about being a loner in school and therefore starting to observe and study human behavior. I noticed humans doesn't differ at all from most of the mammals, except that we have a complex form of communication, so it's quite "easy" to find patterns and what causes them to be. I would really enjoy sharing information if you don't mind.
it's 3am and I've decided I want to be a behavioral psychologist. May change my mind over the course of the next two years of high school, but Psych is convincing
If anyone here is college student learning Psychology here are some tips : As a psychologist. I believe that my patients should feel comfortable with my questions and try to get more free and comfortable talking to me with the time. I treat them like my friends. Because I myself have been through a lot of mental pressure when I was a child. Everyone around me was under mass depression and I started learning how to help people.
I feel like this Civ V quote is relevant. "If our brains were simple enough for us to understand them, we'd be so simple that we couldn't." -Ian Stewart
I disagree with that - simply because it's assuming that a single brain is not capable of understanding one other brain or itself only. Which would hold true. However, there are hundreds of thousands, millions even, of brains working towards completely understand one single brain. Take, for example, computers - the original computer (representing a single brain) could only do simple math problems. It was not capable of understanding the intricacies of another version of itself. However, a complex supercomputer (representing a network of humans) can easily break down the code generating the old school computer. So, while one individual is not capable of discovering everything about the brain, a network of human beings can.
Wonderful discourse. What about the brains of other organisms in our animal kingdom? Even a network of those minds cannot possibly discover how one of their own minds works, even a billion of them as none will physically have the ability to be aware enough to look into their own minds. They clearly have mental capacities that limit their intelligence and understanding of the environment. Does that mean they match this quote? Well, we cannot understand the principles of their simpler minds and consciousness even with our higher mental capacity. So I agree with this quote... in a way.
I'm here coz I love psychology and also I don't have to remember all this and write and exam so I don't have to stress myself (it's better when we are learning out of curiosity and not coz we have to)
I'm 11. I know I might kinda young to study psychology but....I want to know a bit about it. I have a passion to become a therapist or psychologist....I want to help people with their feelings....☺
Key Terms: 1. Structuralism 2. Functionalism a.William James b.Charles Darwin -> Evolution by Natural Selection 3. Psychoanalysis a. Sigmund Freud b. Free Association 4. Behavioralism -> Observable Behavior

I am autistic (high-functioning with Aspergers) as well. Unfortunately, the past few years i have been plagued with completely separate new things and neurological conditions includin depression, OCD and other anxiety disorders, possible schizophrenia, and an array of physical things that is not relevant. As a result of the many things I have albeit they are very bad, they have made me VERY interested in the human mind and wanting to learn more about these things, the very things I can relate to so much. I am currently enrolled in AP Psychology at my high school, and this whole series might also help me study for that AP Exam of course. I have already watched the videos on the mental disorders, but have decided to watch EVERY video in this series, starting with this. I admire your similar goal. I say Crash Course does a darn good job with their series's.. Sorry for the rant though
I'm so glad that these are here! I want to be a psychologist or a psychiatrist in the future and I wanted to go ahead and start learning early so now I can watch these!
I’m 15, a 9th gradee and I’m genuinely interested in this topic. I started being interested when I was 13. I think I’ll be deciding to take on Psychology :)))
People watching this video fall into the categories: 5% saying random paradoxes 60% saying they have an exam tomorrow and are trying to cram 35% saying they have a passion for this subject Whos here in 2019?
This series fueled my love for Psychology as a high schooler and now I am in my second semester of my psych major! Thanks for helping me find my passion :')
14 year old here! I’m not in high school yet, still in 8th grade. I’ve always wanted to be a journalist, and i had a plan to major in journalism at USC, Emerson College, or NYU. I’ve always loved to write and I’m very interested in politics and talking to people. But, recently I took a liking to psychology. I’ve always been slightly interested in it but now I’m really considering becoming a clinical psychologist. Idk what to pick, I know I have a ton of time still but it’s kinda overwhelming 😂 I feel a calling in both fields, so we’ll see what I end up picking. I picked journalism as one of my courses in high school so I’ll see how I like it. Best of luck to everyone! xx
I just graduated this past June and I didn't go away to university because I never knew what I wanted to take, but watching all these crash course videos on all the things I would be interested have really helped me narrow down what I want to go to uni for next fall! :)
***** Haha, me too. I'm gonna fail though cause my school cant even provide textbooks for us or a teacher that cares for that matter. Good luck to the rest of you all.
Be warned, if you want to study this. There is a LOT to remember, no joke. It is just painful remembering all that information. So if you want to study it, you gotta be committed. From an A Level student.
Psychology can be easy for some and hard for others so I cannot answer that question for you. But if you are committed and capable of remembering a lot of information, go ahead. But to give you the topics I am doing, these were; Biopsychology, Attachments, Memory, Social Influence, Psychopathology, Approaches to Psychology, Research Methods, Relationships, Forensic Psychology, and Schizophrenia.
I'm here as a 12 year old middle school student, this seems REALLY interesting to me and I want to do a lot of my own discovery to see if this is my passion before high school and college. I'm exited to watch the rest!
Yep, definitely watching these for Monday. It's amazing how much I can recognize when I've been so bad at studying. Hopefully I can remember this much when I take my test.
As a BTech 3rd year student, I think every student should have commendable knowledge in psychology. So I always become very interested to learn psychology. Your videos have brought a golden Chance to persons like us to fulfill our interest. They will surely play an towering role in transforming The lives of millions. Thanks, congrats , hats off and salute to all conserned.
Priyanka Paul It worked really well, but don't rely on just his videos. Read a review book, and get a goodnight sleep. Don't worry though, it's actually really easy! Good luck.
00:04 Psychology is the science of behavior and mental processes. 01:23 Psychology explores the human mind, behavior, and consciousness. 02:46 Sigmund Freud was an influential and controversial thinker in the field of psychology 04:06 Psychology evolved from structuralism to functionalism and then to Freud's psychoanalysis. 05:28 Freud revolutionized psychology with his theory of psychoanalysis 06:48 Freud's impact on psychology was monumental 08:10 Psychology is an integrative science 09:34 Asking interesting questions and gathering data to understand the complex human mind.
Really looking forward to the rest of the series, it's the first subject from Crash Course I haven't studied myself and it's always something I've been curious about.
A fascinating video that truly helps us try to grasp the extent of the complexity of the human mind. I've always been curious about how our mind functions and this was a great start to this journey of discovery about the science of psychology. A truly commendable aspect of this field is that all people practicing psychology did not confine themselves within any rigid schools of thoughts and came forward with vastly differing theories which all attempted to unlock parts of our brain and how it functions. The amazing part is that all these theories are still extant today and have been the building block of modern psychological practices. Another interesting aspect of this video was the in-depth analysis of how Sigmund Freud came up with his theories. All of his theories had always seemed a tad bit shocking but he was definitely a great thinker and truly revolutionized this field as he didn't allow his ideas to be circumscribed by the general thinking of people around him.
I am now watching this video and I am 16 years old. I hope when I grow up and graduate from university, I will enter the psychology course and become a psychologist🤍
The way this course has explained different aspects of psycology is actually appreciable. Also the approach of explaining schools of Psychology is amazing . I think I got to know the complete new aspect of psycology and I love to explore more about it now.
I'm in 10th grade and have always been interested on how the mind, feelings, insights and brain people have. I just started to research upon psychology... Would I love some answers to those that have experience in taking psychology as their major? What was the experience? What does it mainly focus on? What do you think of psychology as a student?
'Psuchè' is ancient Greek, as is 'logos'. Psychology therefore comes from ancient Greek words. The Latin word for 'soul' is 'animus'. Still, I'm really excited for this series! :D
Yes, but psyche is the latinisation of that word, thus 'it comes from the latin' -the word only comes from the greek if we called psychology something like psykologos (it's late, I'm tired, spelling may be off, but it's using latin alphabet to translate greek, so spelling is subjective anyway :p )
Zoe Rickard I understand that, but still, the origin lies in Greek. It's like deriving a word from the word 'dyke' (in the literal sense, that is) (even though I don't know what kind of word that would be) and then saying it comes from the English word, even though that's an 'Englishation', or something along those lines, of the Dutch word 'dijk'. It's still derived from Dutch then, not from English. That was a really odd way to put it, but I hope you understand my point :P
I'm actually a senior in High School, and haven't taken a psych class yet, but am really looking forward to it. I've done so many things to get to know about the topic. The main reason being that I want to become a psychologist.
Step one: Learn you like this subject Step two: See there is a CrashCourse on it Step three: See that its Hank Green that is teaching it (I LOVE HANK GREEN BY THE WAY)
Jese Joon Mathematics doesn't deal with feelings like any other language does, it deals with ideas and logical constructs. You can't express your feelings with Math because Math doesn't express feelings.
Why don't they teach these things in health classes though? Especially mental health disorders. My Health textbook in my freshman year (high school, that is) had an entire unit on mental health that we did not cover. At all. It frustrates me to no end. But if I can't get education from school, I guess I'll get it from Crash Course :3
