This isn’t actually an “independent” interview. This interview was actually produced in-house by Hubbard. It was produced because the Church was trying to garner interest in South Africa. The interviewer is actually a Scientologist. All of the questions were prewritten and submitted to Hubbard for approval. The only real interview he gave was to Granada in 1967, and even there he was lying through his teeth.

I agree that he sorta beats around the bush. However, I will say this I don’t know too much about Scientology, but listening to this interview what he is saying makes perfect sense. Without going too much into the religion aspect, with what Mr. Hubard is saying in this interview Scientology could line up with the Christian Religion. The Bible teaches about man helping himself. And of course the Bible teaches that we are spiritual beings who have souls and that is the main purpose of the faith. So after watching this interview and listening very closely I think that what scientology is, a way to allow man (women) to increase their intellect so as to help better themselves in all aspects of life. Whether that is being a better father or mother. Or increasing their intellect to give them the ability to advance themselves to better financial wealth in their jobs. Very interesting. Hubbard stole ideas and philosophies from various religious and philosophical doctrines. But it was all a smokescreen to hide the true agenda of Scientology which was control and money.

I've watched this interview a couple of times and LRH is really good at saying what's expected of him without actually answering direct questions, and the poor interviewer had no real idea about the depth of the issues of the Co$

The interviewer is a scientologist called Tony Hitchman. This whole interview was scripted.

This really doesn't seem bad at all. I was expecting something much different based on what I heard through popular culture. There does seem to be a rebellious nature in society when someone attempts to help people with their mind or soul. It's looked down upon as if it's some sort of threat. It's better to throw money at them and keep them distracted than to try to enlighten them or raise their sense of awareness. Related to that, there also seems to be a contentedness with all that is wrong in the world that can be helped. I see this guy as a fairly simple man just trying to do what he thinks is good in practical ways. He wants to help people who aren't getting the help they need. I don't see why scientology has a worse reputation than other religions. [This opinion is based off this video and not anything else that I might not know about him yet]

This is only one of two interviews Hubbard ever did on camera. In both, he is VERY careful about what he says and what he portrays him and scientology to be. He was spectacular liar about both. There is the public face of the church and then there is what actually happens internally.

The books, the lectures etc. I also have the benefit of a family member who was a member of the church for decades. and what are you doing on the internet looking at things related to scientology? this is strictly forbidden under ethics. You better report yourself immediately.

@trout3685 I think someone needs to read A Piece of Blue Sky and Going Clear. You’ll realize pretty quickly that 1. Hubbard was more than just a “simple man just trying to do what he thinks is good” and 2. why he/they have a bad reputation. or are you too busy reading Freedom Magazine?
