@@xinbox2 True, but innovation is good for the hobby, and their pricing of 299.99 is comparable to offerings from Athearn, Intermountain and Scaletrains. Their website could use some work though!
Very nice. I couldn't help but think of the old Aurora plastic models and slot cars from the 50's and 60's. Good luck Aurora, I hope you bring us some classic diesels in the future!
This is a great looking engine! Love the attention to detail. I'm a O scaler who decided to try N scale, and Lombard Hobbies did not disappoint. The guys there even gave me a tutorial on analog, dc,and dcc systems. Chicagoland Toys and Hobbies which is much closer gets a thumbs up 👍 as well.
Absolutely stunning! I remember a few years ago when you fitted cab interior detail to a locomotive you were detailing. And those trucks look amazing. I wish these guys every success.
Beautiful model... Back in the "blue-box" days, if it wasn't brass, we knew we were going to be buying a lot of details, bending wire, etc. The traction motor detail is a nice touch and your weathering brought out a lot of nice details, as well. Always enjoy the presentation on the layout!
I just got my CN website SD60F back on Friday and it's ready for review as soon as time and conditions warrant! Just looking at the model without testing it, all I can say is WOW, they really came out swinging with their first North American offering! Super excited for the C30-7 and C36-7!
"Draper Taper" Those trucks, fans and extra lighting features are game changers. Love the new manufacture, as it will make it better for all of us who prefer "higher end" products!!
I as well was able to review one of these; hands down one of the best, if not THE BEST Ho scale locomotive in my opinion. They knocked this model out of the park. I’m looking forwards to future models from them!
I managed to acquire one of these as well. 100% agree. Aurora Miniatures did their research on this model and delivered an outstanding model of the SD60F.
I have to tell ya that out of all the model Railroad layouts on RU-vid, yours is the Best. 👍 The detail in the scenery, the trains and the layout is above the rest and I really enjoy watching your videos... 👍
Even as an avid N-scale modeler who will probably never own one of these, I'm impressed by the details of this locomotive. Absolutely stunning attention to detail.
the trucks and fans are really cool! I think scale trains sdl39s have gauge lights and walkway lights too. I don’t have one myself but they showed it in a promotional video a while back. While Aurora isn’t the first, it’s cool to see more manufacturers use new lighting features
I feel that damage to the model is most possible when unpacking or repacking. I like their method of screwing the model to the packaging. No obnoxious clamshells to bend out of the way, or long plastic pieces that tend to fall off my work bench. The spinning fans are awesome, can't wait to see other manufacturers follow.
I love the new approach your taking with the videos, I honestly didn't recognize it was you until I looked down and saw your channel name and then began to recognize parts of the layout from past videos. Very professionally shot, voiced, and presented. You have come a long way and should be proud
Very, very cool. Rapido and Scale Trains have created a new standard of modelling. To see an upstart match that standard is very encouraging for the future of the hobby.
@@wiseguysmith6519 they don’t seem to have any prior internet presence. The only thing I can see about their business before is a line about being a contractor to other brands.
Just like scale trains did. Then they got too big and quality dropped big time. My last order from them, when I opened the box I found loose parts everywhere.
i have some of their containers and they're amazing as well, I'm so excited to see them making locomotives and excited to see what they're going to make in the future
Your layout and train operation is so beautiful that I had to watch it a couple times before actually paying attention to the SD60! Super Amazing model even more amazing layout 😊
Thanks for posting,i never heard of Aurora models?the looks ,the sounds especially the screeching of wheels!,and fans spinning just knock me out! i never i would imagine such details. I would love too. have NS SD70M added to my RXR
Wow, they certainly have brought quite a locomotive to the modeling railroad world, all the lights we have seen, but the gauge lights and marker lights and the spinning radiator fans, those items are so cool, going to be hard to beat. The only locomotive that might come close, I think BLI has a diesel loco that smokes when running.
Yes. In my mind, It doesnt look cool.It actually looks like it is a decoder fry up, which is not unusual. Nice model, here, tho. Thanks for the vid. Awsome scenery. Regards Michael NZ
Spring Creek Model Trains in Nebraska has some in stock also; But they won’t last long… Looking very forward to this new manufacturer! Great video Josh!
I forgot the name, I think is called "Class Lights, you have set for the rear of the train, It should be either white or green. And I think CNR is the only class railroad that still uses them
I have a couple Proto 2000's that have working Radiator Fans. Scale Trains GTEL has a working Exhaust fan on the turbine. The only first I see is maybe the actual step lights. But its still a fantastic model!
Not the first time we've seen spinning radiator fans, but is the first time we've seen it in DCC here in the states Can't help but notice a wobble as it runs, but otherwise a gorgeous model Who made it's mate there? I don't recognize it
I remember long, long ago there was talk of using mini motors small enough to mount on the truck similar to the prototype. I'm betting with today's technology and 3D it wouldn't be long to see an HO model with working trucks.
Awesome locomotive, I actually use the mini R/C helicopter or 1:87 scale car motors to do the functional radiator fans. Dont really do it much, maybe a few handfuls of my models now have functional fans, along with sound & lighting too. Would love to see more models or drop-in installs for functional radiator fans, keep up with the layout, locomotive projects, etc and amazing SD60F!! BTW, any chance to see the working or construction of how the inside is setup with the built-in fans, wired to decoder, or any other custom or modifications for those who are curious or would like to install their own custom futures for radiator fans??
Great! Video, Josh, and family. I'm just going to mention that this model also has momentum for dead spots on tracks and fan momentum. Does anyone know if we can expect working fans on Aurora Minitures plans for the GE - U36C-7's/ U-Boats? Thanks again, Josh. This is a very good New Year sign. P.S. I'm an owner of 2 undecorated Overland Models brass SD60F 's. I wonder if they would trade me for these new versions? 🤔 😆 I should be so lucky. I do like my brass though. What a layout!!! You have.
The Aurora model does not have a current continuation capacitor that would allow for uninterrupted operation over dead/dirty spots on tracks, though I'd probably imagine there might be room for an ESU Power Pack somewhere inside that large expanse of a hood.
@hotrail yes, at 2:57 of this video I have included, you will see the "Keep Alive" capacity feature of this locomotive. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lLbeLJDac5o.html
Can't imagine the name AURORA being used without a LOT of copyright grief. Great product, good luck with the brand name...... AURORA Plastics was around for many decades ...... since March of 1950. Guess what they made.....
Looks killer man! Although May I recommend when airbrush weathering the engine be running in place. Otherwise, you end up with what is seen at 6:30 where half the wheel is dirty and the other half is nickel silver. Otherwise, it looks great.
Hi , Im not an HO modeler (N scaler) , but the features on this is what I think all Gauge modelers have been dreaming of , the Working fans is just Wow, Aurora is setting a new bar for the industry as a whole. Dose anyone have any Idea on how many " standard 50 foot cars" one of these Aurora locomotives can pull on the level... thank you. Great video, as always. Cheers.
The trouble with small steam is that it costs 97% as much to develop and manufacture as a Big Boy or other large steam engine, and as a result will cost nearly as much as a Big Boy when it hits the stores. So manufacturers say "no one will buy small steam when it costs almost as much as a Big Boy". Are they right? Would you pay $600+ for a good plastic 2-8-0 or 2-8-2?
Had the model been run in? The movement of the train looked a little sluggish, might have been due to moving with the train during filming. It might have been nice to see the diagrams, kinda worried about how easy or difficult driveline maintenance is with the traction motor detail.
My goodness! I’ve never seen any producer go this far!!! The rotating fans, and the dash gauges are the best part. Wishing more companies would look into that. Unbelievable. The only time I remember seeing rotating fans was in O gauge on a Lionel set. Hopefully they get into more USA engines. Would love to see how they do on SD70ACe or 70M diesels if ever possible. Also, May I ask where the defect detector audio is coming from? Did you guys build that in the layout or do you just have a broadcaster going?
@@tomclark4654 sweet! Can you guys possibly do a tutorial on it? If the trains actually run across and trip it, that would be great. I would love to fit a Union Pacific detector in my layout.
To tell you the truth, I will have to ask Josh. It's been on the layout so long that I can't remember, but I believe it is activated by the occupancy detector through the Digitrax system and the JMRI program running the dispatchers panel. As far as I know all the I R. detectors are for railroad crossings. But I'll ask Josh the next time I talk to him. Tom
On Face Book some discussion on Problem with unsteady speed reported by some owners at mid to upper speeds. Have you encountered any problems. I have two on order and run at lower speeds which I think is more prototypical on most club layouts.
Some are reporting running issues potentially related to the truck design. Aurora has provided some comments in response. Perhaps less concerning but also noted, some have reported mechanical noise levels related to the animated fans. Any comments Josh? Thanks.
Any motor noise from the radiator fans? Seen a few videos of motor noise louder than the prime mover. Also heard rumblings the sounds are too quiet/speaker not adequate? Any input?
Very very impressive! what other manufacturer offers fan blades that spins on a diesel locomotive scale trains doesn't do it. Scale trains is the only one that provides it keep alive in it. I would have to say it's probably a $300 plus locomotive.
Nice Model and a great review. My only complaint is the ride height still looks a little too high. I've taken numerous pictures of these and there shouldn't be an air gap between the top of the truck side frames and the bottom of the frame. It appears to only be visible at certain angles on the model. Not a deal breaker for me. We are model railroaders and this is something that can be fixed.
The air gap is because the real SD60Fs have traction motor blower baffles above the traction motors/truck side frames that fill the air gap. The Aurora SD60F sits at the proper height from all other indications.
