Welcome to the NSmodeler24 Channel, where you can learn more about all things model railroading. My name is Josh and it's my goal to provide a source of free learning, community, and entertainment for the hobby.
More about our model railroad... My father and I have been building a modern Norfolk Southern HO scale layout for nearly 8 years. It is loosely based on the Norfolk Southern "S-Line," which runs between Charlotte, NC and Knoxville, TN. It is located in a room that is approximately 24 x 24 feet. More specific details about the layout can be found in my "layout tour" videos. On this channel you will find model railroad videos ranging from "how to videos" to HO scale rail fanning and even some prototype videos as well. Thanks for checking it out!
Thanks for the video. Been taking pictures for decades and just got my first mirrorless camera - Canon R7 - which does both stills & video. Curious what you used and did you turn off autofocus? I've had cameras with autofocus but never done video before.
I believe Josh uses his iPhone so he can get the angles to make his videos. He has used other cameras in the past with great success, but he seems to go back to his iPhone.
It is a fully functional engine. I believe he had a 3D printed prime mover replica to squeeze in and around the operating parts of that brass Overland locomotive.
You can do it! Just start with a good overall plan and plan to change that plan as you go along! Maybe find someone you can work with to inspire each other! That's what Josh and I (his dad) did! What a great journey!
I don’t know if you’re interested, but I made a video on my channel about putting multiple function maps in an ESU decoder. With this method, you can also consist locomotives together with only cv19 and a function button. I have it mapped so f12 toggles between the function maps and f21-25 is various consist modes. (Lead engine short hood forward, lead engine long hood forward, mid engine, etc.) I also have F19 swap functions 0-7 with stupid lighting and sound effects.
Hey Josh are you guys using the NJ international crossing gates and the 8000 unit to operate them ?? I'm trying to hook mine up and it seems to be very confusing just curious on how you guys did yours. Great video. Gary
I dont understand why the dispatcher is giving a track warrant when this is a CTC layout. And thats authority not permission. Your authority in CTC is signal indication. A track warrant would only be issued in TWC (track warrant control) dark territory (no signals) or, TWC ABS which is a block signaled TWC territory.
Actually, our layout replicates CTC on the main and lower level and "dark territory" on the climb and upper level. We did that to make operating sessions a bit more fun.
If you want to model modern operations accurately, you’re going to need to sell at least half of your locomotives, then tell your operators that they are no longer allowed on the property. Also, give yourself a giant raise.
@@tomclark4654 nicely done. You really did a lot in that space. I’m moving and my next place will have a dedicated 13x32 ft portion of the basement as my train room and I’m debating on making the switch to HO if I can make it work in that space. Thanks again. - Steve
Man I’ve been waiting for a notification from you, I always look forward to whatever video is released. I’ve used some of your weathering techniques, it’s like trying to copy Bob Ross. Thanks for some great content !
NSModeler. I do have a quick question. I've been wanting to purchase some road crossing gates. I already have the blinking lights and just need the gates. I noticed your gates were stand alone. Would you mind letting me know where you purchased them? Also, I'm in the Chicagoland area. Do you have open houses to show your layout? I would really enjoy seeing your layout. Curt
Has your layout ever been featured in Model Railroader Magazine or Great Model Railroads!? If it has what issue and if it hasn’t, it definitely should be!!
Wonderful video with great scenery and sound about how trains actually work! Tremendously helpful for the design of my layout plan. This type of content is difficult to find (at least for me. :)).
