It's frustrating to pay for the update. When you say "ONE TIME PAYMENT", it's supposed to be one time payment for lifetime. If you're going to charge every new upgrade , its better to clear things before. Make it transparent. We can't trust this App 😔

Imagine if Apple charged for every time they launched a new iOS. I paid for GN5 and will stick with that.

I bought Good Notes 5, one-time payment, no time limit, and now, after releasing Good Notes 6, you limit users of the earlier version to editing only 3 notebooks. You should announce such restrictions when releasing future versions, then it will be fair. Or maybe just drop this restriction. Maybe I'd buy the latest version, but what guarantee do we have that you won't make similar restrictions on this version in the future?

For those who say that money is small, we are not all from the first world. The value of the dollar in the national currency of many countries is very different and it is not possible for many students. I am a student and I bought this program for several months, why should I buy it again? I know that it can still be used, but when there is no update for bugs and problems, it will become useless after a while

I like the new version 6. But it should be an independent app with a separate link in the app store. Users can keep both versions.

I can see why most people are upset with this decision, especially since many features that have been asked for (ex: lock a folder) have not been taken into account. While I do understand you too need to make money, not listening to your supporting community will be a certain downfall in the near future, especially since we are all going through the same inflation and money issues :)

Would be better if features in GoodNotes 5 could be updated continuously instead of stopping/limit the update completely. And charge annually/one-time payment exclusively for the AI feature. Not everyone needs AI feature, our initial purchase is just to have a good writing app.

yeah i'll just stick to less popular apps from now on... at least they don't exploit their users. For those who are switching, I think Noteful is pretty good, it has somewhat the same features and most importantly affordable

Goodnote 6 looks good but the upgrade plan sucks! Totally ridiculous. The 3 different discount plans are not designed to respect the previous paid users. I just purchased it 3 months back, now you want me to pay again? This is totally not acceptable.I will explore notability. This type of behaviours, I was not expecting.

The new features are good, but not good enough for most existing users to pay for the upgrade. If you want damage control and money from the existing users before they think about switching to other apps, you need more substantial changes/expansions/features to make the AI integration useful for the average user.

I’m pretty sure that goodnotes 5 will stop getting QOL improvements and bug fixes because they want more people to switch to goodnotes 6. They already did that by not adding scribble to erase and auto lasso. Good work goodnotes

see there is no problem in paying but i am asking they are charging INR 2700 for lifetime and INR 699 for annual plan . If goodnotes 7 is launched in 1.5 years again lets say then whats the use of lifetime purchase at INR 2700?? But they will say you can continue to use goodnotes 6 ...then tell me what is the value of the word 2700 for lifetime?

I wish I had bought Notability and not Goodnotes 5. Let me introduce you to the idea that “updates should be free (or at least to previous paid users).

As someone who primarily uses Goodnotes for reading book PDFs, I find it pretty ridiculous that an additional charge of 30 dollars is being levied for, dare I say quasi-permanent, access to an AI generation tool. It's just pretty damn convenient that there just happens to be no downgrade option on the app-despite what your support website claims. I also don't understand why the newer subscribers are provided better discounts over long-standing ones. Plus, why exactly should those who already own the Goodnotes 5 have to pay a net price of 40 dollars for a "lifetime" subscription? As much as I have enjoyed the app, this new update seems more ensnared in the web of wealth than anything else. Can we at least see who exactly you polled to determine that an AI feature was desired and what percentage of users are content with this overhaul?

I just want to let people know that Noteful costs 6€ (pro version) and has all good notes 5 features plus ones that the community has been asking for: like layers, that thing that identifies colours, tags and a few more improvements. Go give them love 💜

The funny thing that I chose good notes over notability (tho i like some of the aspects of notability more) because of the one time payment now that doesn't mean anything LOL even notability respected there older users and didn't made them pay a yearly subscription This is just sad

I am not going to pay again for the same application that I already bought now you guys just added some AI features and charging for it again. I don't know whose idea is this but it's completely wasteful , If this is going to happen, every time you guys upgrade your application and charge for it , I'm switching to Notability At least I don't have to pay for every version upgrade. #SwitchtoNotability

Utterly disappointed after seeing the pricing😓 Why should we pay for update when have already paid for lifetime subscription for same program. Other apps in your competition are providing their premium features for free to their old (who purchased lifetime subscription) customers. You can exclude the ones which actually required expensive technical things.(like AI updates) But atleast give UI updates to your old customers who had trust on your SO CALLED LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP.

I'm very curious. I've already spent money on the Good note 5. Do you still have to pay for the Good note 6? Do we have to pay for every version? So if you have a Good note 7 do you have to pay again? And how is this called a lifetime?

it’s quite annoying to realize how much I paid for the one-time and no time limit payment for GN 5. And now, with the coming of GN 6, all the money I paid for GN 5 became a joke. The GN company softly force all royal customers to pay another one-time payment for GN 6 with some restrictions for GN 5 users. It is unfair for people like me at all!!! Could not believe what the company has done to all paid customers especially when what has happened to Notability company. The internet and internet surfers do have memory, you know.

I feel quite surprised that you have made a bad decision that GN6 has adapted to yearly subscription instead of life-long purchase, as when Notability did so they hadn’t got a very positive response from their customers. You should have given free access or only charge 10$ to us users who bought goodnotes 5 and not pay again in order to upgrade! Notability did the same thing. You just betrayed us! If you continue like this every update, be 100% sure that users will not pay that amount and you will not get money! I and most of the users are not ready to pay 30$ to upgrade. I’m very disappointed: the new features are not absolutely necessary, it does not truly correct the mistakes you make, not all actually; it is ugly, and they charge 33 euros for that 😂i mean, you cant be serious ?! I was expecting new features such as the ability to put a video in the documents and to be able to write vertically…. Pointless

I don’t think is fair that for us, users of version 5, that now, indirectly, you wanna make us pay again for an actualization. I’m gonna rethinking if I wanna still using the app. I’m afraid that you will interrupt the GN 5 service in some point just for make us pay for this version.

Does anyone else's paste feature keep crashing on larger custom paper sizes? Or the app spontaneously shuts down while scrolling fast? Or sometimes takes too long to load? (I've already emptied goodnotes trash , uodated iOS, freed up storage on ipad, switched off/on) The only thing left to do is delete and then reinstall the app but i need to back up all my data first. Does anyone have any other solutions?

I don’t understand why this is called a substantial update. Generative AI has really only been here for 9 month - so I assume that is when you started work on the main feature of this version at the earliest (it was probably even after that…). Besides AI the few other things are either small changes or new ways you can extract extra money (e.g. sell Exam Practice sets). Sure the new UI symbols might seem flashy to non-tech users but this is not something that really improves the app since it looked good before and hasn’t even changed all that much in term of UX (you moved two buttons around wow). Also some of the features you are mentioning as selling points is stuff where as a developer myself I have a strong suspicion that they take one/two weeks tops to implement while you are telling us that they are main features that have to be in a new paid version of the app. I am a bit disappointed and really hope you can course correct on this. Like how did you even get the idea to release this without a discount to GoodNotes 5 buyers. I feel you are testing the waters here on how „mean“ you can be until the backlash is to high and then you course correct (e.g. discounts for GoodNotes 5 users) to try again later and I am not liking it :(

i have a query: as i will be sticking to my GN5 app, what if I happen to upgrade my ipad sometime later in the future (which of course will happen) and i want to redownload GN5 on that ipad, then what? will i still have access to that or will i have to settle for GN6? isn’t it kind of scummy that the purchase of GN5 that i made w the intention of having it for a “lifetime” wouldn’t be so if i can’t download it again?

So I clicked on Goodnotes 6, thinking I can still work on my notes but.... now I can't do anything in it? help! I tried syncing it with windows to work oon my bachelor thesis, which was complicated enough, but now: On windows I just can't select text and copy and paste it into a word document for example?? Or am i stupid? The lasso tool does NOT work for that and I dont need a screenshot I want editable text from the document (not a comment written by me or a textbox by me) to just copy it and paste it. it works in the app why not (or how???) in the web or windows version?? I'm currently paying for two separate plans to make this setup work, this is the bare minimum that it should be able to do?? :(

That AI chat feature that was showed off in this video is to my knowledge not support in the app yet and will come later as a feature. Will that cost an extra subscription or does that come with the app, too? If it comes with the "one-time payment" would it lose functionality when future versions of GN get released?

Can you add a movable sticky note? Like when we write on it the writing stays there while we move it along the file or page when we study. And add a laser pen, it is so pretty I hope I can write with it. And I also want the laser to be displayed when the recording starts. I really don't want to end up with a mess using pen so I just point it with laser during the lecture.

GN 6 is meant for HS students who needs help with math and likes custom notebook covers but for professionals who use GN as notebook the upgrade is not worth it, in my opinion.

Would help if there was a better explanation of “optional purchasable items” that might be added if you use the $29.99 option. I assume there would be no extra charges if you go for the subscription option? This is not explained all that well in the fine print. Apps cost money to run and support so totally fine paying for something I use literally everyday - but just be clear when and for what I might be paying for.

You don't have to pay for goodnotes 6. If you have bought goodnotes 5, you can stick with that. There is no compulsion to upgrade. Goodnotes 5 is still being supported. I wish people read more on the website - they have clearly mentioned this. Also goodnotes 6 have many updates planned in the next pipeline and they will give us the functionality to lock notebooks/folders.

Why did you move the zoom button to the end of the tool list? I use this button every time when I write something, now on the iPad Air this button is always hidden. Why did you decide to always show tabs even if only one document is open? Very bad UI/UX.
