Thank you for your review. I recently bought a kakuri double sided rebate plane. It was relatively cheap, and appeared quite novel. Had to give it a try. It works remarkably well for such an inexpensive plane. Kudos to kakuri for making affordable tools that work!!

Hi Mitch, Darcy from regional Vic, here. Absolutely thrilled to see these planes as I have plans for a build next winter which involve some fusuma and shoji and was going to ask you about finding some shakuri kanna! I’ve also been watching the kakuri rebates for a while and wondering why there never seemed to be a pair 😂. The hand made rebate planes are gorgeous but they’re just not in my budget, atm, and are also a little unwieldy for my needs. The double rebate looks like a great innovation - and they’re already sold out! Also, thank you for always telling us about your full set up experiences even when there are mistakes, because it makes me feel a lot better, and a little braver, because you show that most things can be corrected. Thanks again!

For the kakurikana that you demonstrated last, what do you do when, after repeated sharpening, the blade is too short to reach or extend from the sole to cut as desired? I have a fair bit of experience with western tools, but am just learning about Japanese tools now. I am puzzled by the lack of a wedge to hold the blade and tapping the blade to whatever depth of cut is desired. I do see that the blade is tapered and self wedges into the plane, but don't understand what is done when the blade shortens. Thank you for the excellent video.
