Brilliant that's some great memories connected to these lanterns. Interesting that you were issued with an American stove in the British forces haha. I believe American soldiers parachuted into Europe with the first Coleman stoves too. Take it easy Mick.

yep the presurised petrol stove ,,,[ no4 cookset i think could be wrong not a chef } was a staple in the british army for many years right up until we adopted the single fuel system and all equipment and vehicles had to go diesel whilst not always issued to individuals as they got hexi they were used for expeditions as they were less prone to freezing than the gas alternatives @@BushcraftWithSteOutdoors

I'm happy now I know the 639 has no adjustment, I thought I may have to strip it 😆 I like the sound of the smaller models I will keep an eye out for them. I do like the fuerhand lanterns too I have I think 3 to date. Unfortunately my newest one leaks everywhere! I picked up a tub paraffin and it seems to be running fine so fingers crossed. @@BushcraftWithSteOutdoors The Feuerhand aren’t completely sealed. That’s how they are designed. I have a small canister from the Swedish army to bring the fuel for it to the woods and fill it into the lantern when I arrive. If there is some leftover I fill it back to the canister the next day. No leaking this way. Cheers mate.

Hey Ste always a pleasure my good buddy. There is actually a version of this lantern from Canada m8 it's a CP version. Apparently it was used in the Canadian railway? It commands a high price. Lovely. Well worth picking a couple up m8. Take it easy.

Hey Jeff always a pleasure my good buddy. I do like the north star. I have seen it floating around on the Coleman forums. I also like the propane version you mentioned. I watched a RU-vid vid where they compared 3 types of Coleman battery, white gas and propane. I think the propane was the brightest and longest lasting fuel wise. That's great to hear regarding the reliability of the lanterns 23 years is good going. I'm in the market for the dual burner petrol version over here Jeff, but silly prices put me off 😂

Aside from our abhorrent Prime Minister who is proverbially drilling holes into the hull of our economy and the country as a whole with his Liberal party shenanigans, it is honestly a beautiful place to live and where I'm at in Ontario here (southwestern part) I am only a short drive from a few of the Great Lakes, and less than 6 hours from beautiful Algonquin Park. Haha it's quite funny you mention your vision of Canada because it is not uncommon for most people think this is a bushcraft heaven with lots of forests and sparse communities with snow and mountains 😆. The northern part of Ontario here is absolutely breathtaking and once you start into the Canadian Shield and up past Lake Superior, that's where this province really shines. The small city of Chatham that I live in has 44,000 people (we even have a Thames River 😀) is approximately one hour from the Windsor (Canada)/Detroit (Unites States) border where the Detroit River separates the two cities. On a clear summer day you can literally see each city and hear people talking from across the river and there used to be an indoor amusent park resort hotel in town here called The Wheels Inn. It was a popular American long weekend hotspot and people from Detroit would cross the border (remember, you can literally see each city across the river plain as day lol) and they would pack parkas and winter boots like as soon as they came out of the Windsor/Detroit Tunnel, it would be a barren snow-covered wasteland 🤣🤣🤣. And yes I absolutely agree that the sight, smell and quiet little jet engine sound of a Coleman lantern roaring away is what makes camping for me, second only to sitting in a camp chair around the fire under the night sky❤🌲⛺🌲.

@@BushcraftWithSteOutdoors To my knowledge here in Ontario, you can film content like you what you make without a license. There are a lot of RU-vid content creators who make videos just in the Algonquin Park area (Camper Christina is one, My Self Reliance/Shawn James is another). It might be different in another province here as laws and regulations can and do differ between them, but I see a ton of content coming out of northern Ontario so I think you can film freely here. LOL I don't know what your Thames is like over there in the UK, but if I could post a picture in here of our Thames River, it sounds like they would be roughly the same 🤣🤣. Ours actually used to be quite a bustling waterway with activity on American Long weekends where boats would be parked three abreast down at the docks in our downtown core which would be bustling with life and activity. Now our downtown is slowly but steadily drawing makeshift shelters and in the infancy stages of becoming an encampment for the homeless and mentally ill. I just turned 50 in January and to think back to when I was kid going downtown with my folks on long weekends to see all the activity and nightlife and excitement in the downtown park, to see what it is like now it's almost like a dystopian time warp. I listen to The Richie Allen show regularly and I hear Rishi mentioned often on the show. I don't envy what you folks are going through over there, but it seems like Trudeau has entered Canada in the race to the economic bottom over here 😵.

They are eye catchers for sure m8. What size is you Vicky m8? 91mm ooooh I found a vintage msr multi fuel stove on market place a few months ago. I messaged her and she took her time getting back! She replied after a week! She told me it had been sold, then messaged the day after to say she made a mistake and it was still for sale. I didn't see the message till a couple days later and by the time she seen the message it had sold 😂 true story.

Lol like you need another stove anyway man. My MSR stove isn't multi fuel it just takes a gas cannister. It's basically a burner with three folding legs. As for the Victorinox, yes you were bang on it's 91mm or there abouts. It's been dropped that many times the ends are looking a bit tatty. Hi, unfortunately, I have no experience with the dietz lanterns, although if you buy a new Coleman dual fuel lantern and maintain it properly, they are a reliable source of heat and light.

Hey there, as long as the lantern isn't knocked violently, the mantle should last for years.
