The Urban combines the best of the highly popular Bülk MK1 with the innovations of the Bülk 4 More. The Urban is an ideal option for city and bike trail riding where the smaller turning circle will allow more maneuverability compared to velomobiles with closed wheel wells. It is also an ideal option for touring, especially in hilly areas where the open wheel wells provide more cooling for the brakes on descents. The additional ground clearance makes clearing obstacles a breeze. The Urban is available with all the same options, colors, and features as the Bülk MK1 and is my personal choice for long-distance touring.

The seating is a thing to consider. If I were to chose I would take the front wheel access hatches of the M9, the speed of the Snoek L, the seat sytem of the Bülk urban and the luggage space of the Quattrovelo. Choices, choices...
@mnveloguy
@mnveloguy 3 месяца назад
Open wells give the easiest front wheel access. Snoek L is comparable in speed to the Bülk MK1. The speed difference with the Urban only shows up above 45kmh. As for luggage space, there’s a trailer coming that can be towed by a Bülk. The trailer will be shown at Spezi. It’s nearly finished. That will have a lot of storage capacity, but only when you actually need it. Then you can still ride very fast the times when you don’t need so much storage.
@sebastiandomagala9233
@sebastiandomagala9233 3 месяца назад
@@mnveloguy I am surprised that the Snoek L is just as fast as a Bülk. I expected it to be faster. However, the fastest model that can fit an entire Tennis gear will be it. I will need the easiest ride when I am already exhausted in the first place. Trailer is an option for grocery shopping, but I can do that already with my upright bike. But thanks for the information about what to expect at the Spezi, I already booked my ticket.
@mnveloguy

@@sebastiandomagala9233 the small Snoek is only a bit faster than the Milan SL and Bülk MK1. I have a hard time believing the Snoek L, which is larger than the normal Snoek, will be measurably faster. It is not unusual for designers to make claims about how much faster their model is and for the reality to not match the claims. I am still waiting for someone to do a proper test between the Bülk MK1 and Snoek, but I do not expect to see a speed difference. I think the Bülk will have a bit more storage space. I can fit a trumpet, winter coat, and shoes in my MK1 so I would expect tennis gear to fit just fine. I also use my Bülk without trailer to grocery shop every week, although I am buying food for only one person.

@@mnveloguy A friend actually measured the Snoek L to be marginally faster than the Bülk Mk1, testing back to back both accurately aligned, swapping tires and power meters between bikes. Difference is small, but measurable at high speeds. About speed difference between Urban and Mk1: Keep in mind that a 45 km/h headwind puts your "wind speed" at 90 km/h. Into a headwind, the difference will show up sooner.

@@mnveloguy I do for four. Trailer just works fine, my local grocery store is only 5 km (3 miles) away. No big deal, the area is mostly flat (although slightly uphill on my way home). And I still have a car, kids can´t get to every place without. The Spezi will tell which vehicle is big and fast enough to be the one.

Curious about the rear seat 'attachment', or is it more of a hanger? How does that affect seat rigidity when pushing hard?
@mnveloguy
@mnveloguy 3 месяца назад
A similar system is used in the Snoek. Rigidity is good when pushing hard according to Jan from Velomobile World. Ideally you would push into the area where your butt is anyway.

Thanks for your review, such a wonderful new model! When you say "mine does not have the new maintenance hatch design" does it mean that the 'Urban' will not have the same big front access than the Bülk "4more"?
@mnveloguy
@mnveloguy 3 месяца назад
No. It means that mine was produced before they had the new hatch integrated into the molds. Later Urbans will have the big front access hatch.

Wow, I really like this a lot! Will it also come with tank steering? You mentioned that it's still as stiff even with the aluminum parts vs carbon?
@mnveloguy
@mnveloguy 3 месяца назад
I noticed tank steering in the dealer configurator. When I asked, I was told that tank steering is actually an option! I haven’t gotten to ride mine a lot, but the hill climb I did with mine seemed quite stiff. Despite the aluminum parts, I fully expect comparable stiffness to the MK1. After all, the Snoek uses aluminum subframe and swingarm and I haven’t heard complaints about stiffness with it.
@sebastiandomagala9233
@sebastiandomagala9233 3 месяца назад
In contrast, carbon frames bend more than alloy ones. So using aluminium (yes, I use a second "i") will should make a frame even stiffer. And I always wonder why carbon fibre is considered an exotic and expensive material. Think of Tennis racquets. Even the cheap ones below 100 bucks are made of (you guessed it)...
@mnveloguy
@mnveloguy 3 месяца назад
@@sebastiandomagala9233 I think this depends on how the carbon is laid up. Carbon, when done correctly, can be incredibly stiff and a bit lighter than Aluminium. Perhaps another reason for the choice of aluminum in this model is to give the ability to add e-assist. Carbon subframes can handle this, but Aluminium is the preferred choice by the factory. From a repair standpoint, I would rather have Aluminium. Then I do not have to be the one to fix it. I can take it to a welder.
