This is exactly the type of series I have been looking for. I wanted to make one of these street legal since I first laid eyes on them as a kid. There is almost nothing out there that gives an indepth look at these cars. I'm definitely in for the long haul.
Thank you John! I appreciate the support. Some of the videos are going to be in depth and others are going to be overview of current work which may get a little long in the tooth. I am trying to give as much info as I can so people can either look into what will be needed in their state(s) or so people will be sparked into buying one from me as that is one facet of my business I am trying to make happen.
I am curious as to how it looks on paper for the DMV and how it goes to register and insure one I’m located in Maine would love one of these on The Street
@@smith943 in every state there are certain regulations you have to follow. In most places you were able to build them as "Kit" cars from what I have been told. There have also been instances of building them as "Replica" or "Custom" car. TECHNICALLY anyone can build a car and it has to meet certain criteria. Which is probably why people can get away with welding two different cars together and still drive them on the street. In this situation my home state has relatively laxed regulations, and am hoping to get it through inspections and registrations. Although if that fails there are companies out there that have researched which states you can register the vehicle out of state. If you are interested in one for the street be mindful that this build and all my other builds I take on are intended for resale once finished. Hop over to our Facebook page facebook.com/NewYankeeAuto and get in contact if you are interested in purchase.
I have raced these since I was 8 years old in pro legends and masters class and race them still on and off when I'm not racing my big cars like my latemodels or modifieds anyone wanna know anything about these let me know. I will tell you if your gonna make this a street car I would nut and bolt every single bolt on the car and all the break bias does is controls the amount of break pressure between the front and rear of car for street use turn dial and hit breaks until the break bias gauges show the psi equal cuse you will spin it if it all rear break pressure and the break will lock up they have no anti lock breaks and you can use any racing wheel with right bolt pattern they make some pretty beautiful chrome colored wheels and many different non chrome colors but the chrome ones are spectacular looking at night like chrome blue or red and don't go with a low profile tire use the legend car spec tires cuse those are dot approved and have tons of grip and safe for higher speeds just stay with legends approved tires. If you don't know much about these cars don't go modifying them. They way it is perfectly fine for street I'd just throw lights on it and stuff and leave it. You can buy body panels in the colors you want or just get plane colored vynil wrap like we do and wrap it to change the color lot easier and better then painting the bodies. And to remove that adhesive use goo gone adhesive remover then use a good automotive polish compound there's this yellow bottle forgot name brand from your local auto body supply store and that stuff will make paint shine like it's nothing by hand or even with a rotary buffer way better then anything at a big box store.
I was able to get all of the vinyl off well with the heat gun and patience. The residue is another story. I still haven't gotten that off yet but oddly enough PB blaster works GREAT on the small area I tested.
Well, once it's finished hit me up!!!! It's being built for sale. Newyankeeautosystems@gmail.com or find us on Facebook @ Facebook.com/newyankeeauto and send me a message. I have another one on deposit just waiting to get it when it is ready.
I have the same 37 Chevy body and plan to make it a street car...but not using the racecar drivetrain/chassis. You do know it has no reverse gear right? I'd also add the sequential gearing will be a pain on the street. The wheels stick out so they will throw off debris onto itself and others and will not be street legal to pass an inspection, you need to think about that from the beginning. My plan is to widen the car to fit two people and make it longer also in back and make it a 'panel truck' with solid window in back. The front hood and grill I got with it is actually a 34 Ford, I was looking to borrow a 37 hood to make a copy, but I will likely just make a custom grill for it anyway, not go with the 37 one. Look forward to seeing your progress.
Yeah I am aware of the no reverse gear. As it wouldn't have been a daily it wasn't that big of a deal. Also has no parking brake either. Plenty have been made street legal so as far as the tires that's up to the region inspecting it or the cops being cool about it or not. Best of luck with yours.
@@newyankeedoesit In California the CHP has to inspect a 'homemade' car, which this one would be, and it has to follow all the rules, horn, windsheild wiper, parking and headlights done correct, etc. and fenders. If you can find an 30's car with a title, just call it that and no inspections. Or take off your legal fenders once it passes. Back in the day my V8 had to have a stock air cleaner to pass for a 1961 Chevy, so I borrowed on and had to remove the hood so it fit, looked totally silly, but then it passed.
I assume that, in Tennessee you do not need a VIN for a vehicle to be street legal?? I can see this as a problem in Texas, as I don’t know how I could get it titled. Love this idea though! Will keep watching!
I assume you do need a vin. I haven't had it titled yet, but I have the original serial number, paper work and bill of sale receipt, so I should have everything I need when I get there hopefully.
If you contact speedway motors it use to be 600 racing they can get you a copy of the original title and you can buy brand new bodies online for these parts are accessable but not cheap
I'm looking into doing this myself. I've run into a problem on the VIN#. I live in Ga and I've talked with both my county tag office and the state title office. The county said as long as I have a title they will give me a tag. The states office said that as long as I have a VIN number they can find on their database they will give me a title if it doesn't have one already, but they will not create a title for me. The state also said that they will accept a title and VIN from any other state. Both places I've talked to are very confused on what I want to do and I'm looking for any information or confirm what they said or information on how to get it street legal. Thanks in advance Love the channel -Kyle
Sounds about the same as the issues I am running into. There may be a way for me to get a title in my state but I haven't crossed that bridge yet. If I am successful we can discuss how I might be able to help. Send me an email at Newyankeeautosystems@gmail.com so I have a way to contact you if I can help in the future. Thanks for the support. I'm glad you like the channel!
Alter dirt circle track cars have a removable steering wheel to get in the car thay all have a solid road. 🧐 I'm turning my 72 Nova that I race for a lot of years in to a street car. I'm tired of fixing it and painting it
I'm in a suburb of Bristol. I haven't had the car out yet. I would say likely it's not me haha. Hoping to have it "roadable" soon but not out to pigeon forge, that's a haul.
The cars are coming along. One quicker than the other. As far as finding a car FB marketplace has a couple of options OR there are FB groups. Legends and bandoleros of america is one and Just legends is another if you are looking for mostly assembled cars.
@@jonwatson7102 if you are looking for BRAND new cars I know there is a guy in NC I think. Nsane Grip. I've talked to him about brand new cars before. You might just have to scour the net for what's close to you. I have found a lot of transactions happen on FB.
