Good vid. pit passes, entry fees and sanction fees really add up over the year. As a former midget team co-owner the first thing you learn is that buying the racecar is the cheapest part of the deal. In addition to the car and spare parts you need a place and a whole set of tools to work on it, a trailer to tow it, a rig big enough to tow it and the crew and tools to work on it at the track and, of course, fuel for the rig and maintenance on the tow rig as needed. If you have a day job, like we did, sometimes we needed to take time off without pay to go racing. Was it worth it? Hell Yeah! Did we make money? Hell No!

Who would have thought this would be cheaper than motorcycle racing.... jeeeez...... that's awesome! big bikes are 18k new now, you can get used for about 9k, plus 500 bucks for tires each day or sometimes twice a day. 10 gallons of fuel should get you through the weekend. Track prices are 200-300 a day. Transponders are about 500, crash fairings are about 1k, exhaust and tune to be competitive about 2k. 3k for suspension, Gear is about 2k average.... so to get into Motorcycles lets call it 12-14k average for liter bikes maybe 8-10k for 600 class.

The costs of racing is why one definitely needs sponsors. I helped my nephew race a Pure 4 asphalt car about six or seven years ago. Just watched a dirt race in the south. They ran these after a 50 lap modified main with 26 cars. That crap was obnoxiously slick and then the legends cars were on there. Poor guys. It was pretty much impossible to keep the cars straight. Luckily only 4 cars were in that so there were no big crashes but the short wheel base and pretty much driving on ice.... Great video. I live in Virginia and Langley speedway is only 30 mins from me. I've been wanting to get into racing for a while being an avid race fan, avid iRacer (asphalt oval with anything from legends to cup,) and regular Langley attendee. This video has given me some good insight into what I'll be looking at cost wise just to get started. Would it be of any benefit for me to start talking with the local guys? @AJBunch6

That really depends on how often you wreck. If you take it to someone to do the clip you are looking at around $500-750 per clip after parts and labor. A lot of the suspension parts you can get in package deals that save you money as well. If you were to knock the whole front end off which rarely happens where you can’t salvage one side of the car you are looking at around 1-3k depending on if you buy all new stuff or get used deals.

Thank you!! I appreciate it, and I thought your video was very informative!! I live in Grand rapids mi. I use to run mini stocks on dirt here in Michigan and one of the tracks I grew up going to would run legends like once a season. I always liked and wondered about those legends. If you get a minute, what tracks run them on an every week schedule here in Michigan?? I am curious to know how far I'd drive to the tracks. Again, thanks a bunch!!!
@AJBunch6
@AJBunch6 Год назад
@rogerthacker7515 in Michigan, Whittemore Speedway runs them 6 times a year, Birch run is running them 4 times this year, and Flat Rock ran them once this year when the Canadian series came over.

Engine rebuilds? How frequent? How much?
@AJBunch6
@AJBunch6 Год назад
For 1250 engines you are looking at $4500 or so every 25-30 races as long as you take care of them. With the FZ motors you can go a lot longer from what we all have been told.

Hi, I’m 13 and I want to get into legends racing, but I don’t know if I need any past experience in racing. Do you know? Also how do I convince my parents to help me out with buying a legends car??
@AJBunch6
@AJBunch6 Год назад
If you are 13 I would suggest running a year in bandos and then moving to legends. As far as convincing your parents I would say sit down and have a conversation with them and tell them how much you really want to do it and see if you can work out a deal with them.

You didnt touch on how many nights you go on a motor. I know the 09 is supposedly more durable than 1250s were
@AJBunch6
@AJBunch6 11 месяцев назад
The 1250 we had good luck with and went 30 or so nights on it and that motor is still running strong for the guy who bought it. With the 09 I have seen guys do a rebuild after 30 nights and have heard there are still some out there in the 70-80 range. It all depends on how you take care of it.

Not gonna lie, when I first saw the thumbnail I thought an old family friend (Rick Carelli) had gotten back in a car as that was his old number and looked to be styled almost Identically to his. He never raced in a legend though. Racing is a very expensive hobby/career to get into. But aren't all the best toys?

I’m not super familiar with the road course stuff but I would assume you would want a balanced setup to help stabilize cornering weights turning both left and right.

A sedan should be able to. Or a big boy coupe. Go to your local track and ask to sit in one from a racer. A lot of guys are more then willing to help people out at the track.
