@@michaelmays9415 Sorry if this came across negatively towards you. You are doing a great job and I love your videos. I am just venting because we are switching and I am trying to figure out all the licensing we need. Between Power BI and Azure it's an adventure for sure.
Bill Debevc I wouldn’t be sorry MS and azure licensing is really built to deceive - it’s a full time job to stay up with it. Not structured or accomodating to small dev houses or those with on premise solutions Cost of powerapps is crazy really
@@BillDebevc Not my video, I’m nowhere near knowledgeable enough to compare with the great Guy in a Cube team! And I didn’t mean my comment to come across as short, it was a genuine question - just saying that this difference could be a complication
What would be your ideal situation? how would you like it to be? I know licensing can be confusing sometimes. I personally have thought Power BI licensing has been more straightforward than others.
According to Microsoft pricing calculator P1 node would be enough for 1000 users, even heavy users. P1 is 5000$ / month so anything that goes above 5 $ /month / user would be a robbery.
@@cfinlan Hi Chris. Because your own calculator suggests that P1 is enough for 2000 total users with 800 frequent. Plus still need to buy PRO for those who want to publish, nothing changes here.
That calculator is very simplistic and is only for a general sense. There are so many factors in play. As Chris mentioned, from a pure price perspective, 500 users would be the tipping point for a P1.
Seriously, Microsoft license sub sys is a mess. You never what you need to get things just work. And that PBI in 365 business is a complet mess : you need pro lic to share report.. Wait.. Your collegues need licence too, jut to use your report... Man
What would be your ideal situation Aboubacar? What makes sense to you? Per user licensing and Core based options are pretty typical - at least on the Microsoft side.
@@GuyInACube Ideal should be 1 lic must be needed for a user creating the report. Teammates should be able to open/share it, specifically if they are in the same 365 environment.
When you talk about the workspace and only Premium per users being able to access that Workspace. I'm guessing that you cant create an App to share with users without Premium Per user license can view and interact with the reports. So essentially its exactly the same as Power BI Pro, in that everyone looking at reports in the App have to have Pro licences if its not premium capacity?
Quick question - If I have a PBI PRO license - Can I access that Premium Per User Workspace? Or as what was shown in the video it looks like if I create a PPU workspace ONLY other PPU users can access that workspace? Similarly - If I create a PRO workspace, can a PPU access content in my PRO workspace? Curious how sharing works between PRO and PPU
@@cfinlan Yes but if this would have been added to this individual premium licence then that will make more sense other wise the report consumer will also need that licence instead of pro licence. In small scale org buying premium node is expensive, but this individual licence is good to have if i can share the reports created in the workspace with other pro users. It will be useful only in case the price for this licence is closer to pro licence so that for small scale org can opt to this licence if needed. Correct me if needed anywhere. Thanks
@@ameyraj4947 We continue to say this was designed for smaller organizations and the price needed to be something that makes sense for this exact use case. People are making assumptions without knowing the price, and this was all accounted for.
@@cfinlan So if I need PPU in order to have paginated reports, am I going to be able to distribute the paginated reports to users that do NOT have a PPU license? all of our department managers have a Pro license currently. Obviously, its hard to debate this without knowing the price point, but I would agree with @pa beader here... if I am right back to having to spend thousands of dollars per month just to get paginated reports, im going to have to look for another solution. Small/medium businesses just cant harbor that price tag.
If the report is not personalized then you can send it to one account and multiply it with power automate or any other way to forward an email or attachment to a group.
@@martinbubenheimer6289 thanks for the reply... I guess ill have to "get my feet wet" a bit to know what you mean by "personalized" in this context and to test out your Power Automate concept... would be nice if that would work. Im skeptical though. I guess if it works the same way as the Pro email subscriptions, people wont be able to read the report unless they have PPU license...
Hi Adam, you mentioned that only 'Premium per users' can access/share 'Premium per users' workspaces. But, if you generate an APP on a 'Premium per user workspace' and share that with free of pro users, is that possible?
No. They would need a PPU license. I think there is an exception for Admins that they can still manage the workspace but not view the content unless they have a PPU license.
I just created a free Power BI service account & when I click on workspaces there is no diamond listed option like in yours, simply a 'Create a workspace' button at the bottom, & if click on that then it talks about setting up a Pro account ?!?
Does Premium Per User allow you to use the Power Automate flow action "Export to File for Power BI Reports" that is also in Preview right now? I currently have a Pro license and get this error when trying to use that flow: "Report requested for export is not on dedicated capacity". My company really wants the ability to automatically generate a PDF of a Power BI report and send it out via Outlook to specific employees. Right now we have to do this manually.
Anyone knows if Power BI Premium Per User does allow the use of the enhanced compute engine for dataflow? I reckon it stays a specific feature of Power BI Premium ... but have not been able to check that!
Hi, Can you please make a video on "CI/CD pipeline in GitLab that talks to Power BI Service and updates the ‘Development’ workspace of the project" (GitLab CI/CD integration with Power Bi deployment pipeline)
Hi Adam, I am following you from quite long time... I started working with power BI since one year and Guy in a cube videos have helped me a lot. I have a question, Can we build a power BI dashboard that shows the refresh history of multiple datasets in different workspaces? Concentrating on the failure time and failure messages... It is for monitoring purpose. I have been searching the internet for a week now, anyone here... Please help. 😊
We are planning to have two separate premium capacity nodes in our project, one for Dev and Testing and another is for production, Can you please let me know what impact this may have on deployment pipeline ? Can we configure a pipeline to talk to two different nodes?
Thanks Adam. I am going to have a question for our Live Stream on Saturday. I got signed up for the trial that was announced but it isn't working. So I have a question for you that I will submit for Saturday! :)
Same as previous person asking :) - If you ever had a Pro trial before, there is a potential bug you’ll hit trying to enable the trial. A fix is rolling out now, but if you just contact support, they have a way to fix it for you.
@@cfinlan You were kind enough to reply to my email last week. The question I was going to post was super simple--what is the number for the right support number to call. :) LOL!
sigh it is so hard to find that number. I know it exists... i may even think it is 1-800-MICROSOFT (or something). Everything pushes towards an online request now a days.
Still many things are not clear in Premium per user license. May be it will get cleared once Microsoft launches it. Btw what is the expected date of release for this feature?
No dates have been announced yet. We are waiting patiently. The FAQ (linked in the description) has a lot of info in there. Chris and team did a good job covering a lot of the items. What is not clear for you?
There one question not answered by the FAQ: Now I'm (and probably many working in corporate world are) using the Power BI Pro. If I try this trial PPU license and publish in my company's workspace where everyone else is Power BI Pro, would they be able to view the Power BI I publish? This is one thing stopping me from trying out the trial.
Do you perhaps know if there's a dataset refresh limitation of 8 with Power BI Premium Per User as well? We are replacing another tool and we were thinking of going with Power BI We are licensed for Power BI Pro but we have a requirement to refresh our datasets more than 8 times (no less than 12 times a day (15 refreshes maximum)) and we didn't really want to go with Premium Capacity just yet, because only a handful of users will be accessing the dashboards
Hi y'all, for some reason I still cannot active my PPU. After I created a new workspace, following Adam's steps, the PPU toggle is still greyed out for me. Does anyone have the same issue?
