My bet is that with all the knowledge they get from all their clones, they will be able some good original synths, including polyphonics, in the next years.
@@b3bs I would not count on touching one of these anytime in 2024 or 2025. I've been waiting YEARS for synths they announced were "IN PRODUCTION" at least 3 years ago.
Make a unit called the electron, make it a drum machine with a bunch of effects with a sequencer that can control the neutron and electron. 1 electron 1 neutron and 1 proton. The Behringer Deuterium
1-shot LFOs are something we don’t see often enough - and doubly useful here with the patching. You can add a little extra punch without tying up an envelope
then it would need a patch bay several times the size. polyphony in modular is expensive both in space and cost, you'll need separate cv ins and outs for literally every voice's envelope and filter. also what use would patch memory be on a modular synth where the physical connections would need to also be recalled?
@@SomeOne-pd6vm That is true if you add the patch bay to the patch saving procedure. But what i was thinking of was a poly version without the patch bay so it has space for a screen and buttons and a knob for patch saving and browsing.
@@Sound.b581 There is a reason why the Arturia Polybrute is so expensive. Doing all these things with a poly with these extended number of oscillators, envelope generators, LFO:s etc just drive up the cost insanely! Arturia isn't the expensive brand, just look at what a similar Moog One costs. I think it would be really hard to drive down the prices to get something similar with a polyphonic matrix-like Proton.
Nice! This thing along with 4-5 supporting eurorack modules guarantees you a very capable system. Sounds much more stable and beefy than the Neutron for sure. There has never been a better time to get into modular.
@@i-a-i Well this thing does lack a sample and hold which is pretty weird considering the other features but oh well. Definitely a module that has some randomness, maybe a dedicated sample and hold module or something bigger like a Mutable Marbles. Some effects module that you like would be cool. I'd always add a Maths to this, or the Behringer Abacus which is basically a Maths. This will give you more modulation as well as general utilities like slew, attenuverters etc.
@@i-a-iBehringer itself has interesting modules in its catalogue, some clones, as has already been said... I would definitely also add an effects module like Space efx, an abacus, a sampler module like Chaos and one or two complex oscillator modules like Brains or Victor. Also at Behringer you can find various modules at economical prices which include more LFO, S&H, ADSR and other interesting stuff. little by little an interesting system will emerge, at least to start without spending the entire bank account.😊
@@i-a-i I started with a Neutron, picked up a NiftyBundle and quickly started adding modules. If I had to start over, I'd probably stick with the NiftyCase (I got the bundle on sale, but quickly stopped relying on Chipz & Cellz for much) and go with Pamela's Pro Workout as my first module. It's good for all sorts of things, from generative sequencing to Euclidian patterns to modulation to basic clocking and more. Squarp Rample remains as one of my go-to modules, and you can use Pam's to drive it. I use Ochd and its expander paired with Tesseract's Polar8 (three more of my earliest purchases) for extensive modulation, but that might be overkill early on if Neutron and/or Proton were your only euro-compatible synths.
Instruo/DivKid Ochd: 8 separate triangle wave LFOs at different rates. Knob with cv control, for frequency of all of them at once. I use it on every single patch i make, it’s great for giving a little life to various parameters. In-line attenuvertors: these are little attenuvertors that go between an output and input. Several different kinds out there, much less expensive than buying attenuvertors for your rack (though those can be nice from a usability standpoint of course) Some kind of voltage and trig sequencers, preferably multi-channel. I like Steppy, Voltage Block, and Muxlicer for wild ideas (Muxlicer does all kinds of stuff, check out DivKid’s video about it). Pitch quantizer of some kind. So useful, for turning voltage into music. Will second a Pamela’s module. I set mine up with the expander, various subdivided clocks and synced LFOs, and just leave it like that.
@@PatternRecognitionMusic Yes, Waldorf has something like that as well, but it would be nice if it was the exact same size as these units and with a Behringer price tag.
@@SPL-6 I don't see getting much lower in price for a decent keybed, power supply, rails, etc. NiftyKeyz is 112hp, you're only looking at 32hp extra space, easy to fill with either a blank or a couple of good modules to extend the functionality without adding a crazy amount of bulk.
Have the Neutron since years , it‘s a really nice machine . But the Proton with the sub oscillators , dual filter etc. really impressed me . Will pair it with the Neutron .
The sub oscillators add some serious heft to the sound. Very nice. I am hoping it isn't as easy to knock out of tune as the Neutron. It is a touch fussy, Breath on the knobs and it goes out.
At last! This is the quality stuff that really makes Behringer one of the best synth manufacturers, the ORIGINAL designs, the truly innovative stuff that's doing what no other synth does. This as an expander for any semi-modular synth, such as an Arturia MiniBrute 2, would be unbeatable.
Go Behringer! I currently own 7 Behringer synths and cant wait to get my hands on this beauty. Thankyou for making the world of synthesis a lot more accessible at a great price! ❤🎹
You save the world! Doing the Lord’s work! No one is more amazing! Poor kids everywhere are rejoicing! We are all blessed beyond belief!!! Uli for World President!!!
I really hope the MIDI to CV converter and Assign output work the same as the Neutron because they are *_perfectly_* matched to the Roland AE-30 Aerophone Pro wind synth! I've asked before and I'll ask again... please make a Eurorack module out of the Neutron's MIDI to CV converter. Remember to include the same pitch bend response and the Assign output for aftertouch. [and before anyone comments - no, the CM1A *doesn't* do this!]
So in 2024 for 400 dollars you get a USB sound machine where DAW CAN'T control main knobs via CC midi? While in this day in age every knob should independently control every parameter with PROTON you get a modwheel and some "Assign outs". Apart of that everything is cool. Just remember pushing the REC button every time you go play with it.
FINALLY another original design. I very much hope Behringer makes more original synths in the future instead of the endless torrent of synths "inspired" by older designs.
Finally, hell yes! Just what my Neutrons "need". Together, they would be "Deuterium". A different, third synth should be designed, and call it "Electronico" so it doesn't sound too much like a certain company's name. Anyone with all three synths would have an "Atomus".
I have tons of empty rack space I could use, but I do like the tilt angles of the behringer 3 unit stands. Much more ergonomic than just straight up. I may eventually have to use regular rack space if Behringer keeps coming out with tasty $300 modules. Thx for the network rack suggestion. If I run out of regular rack space I may get a tall one.
Been waiting for this one since it was first announced. It was going to be a companion to my Neutron (which I love, and have paired with a the Modamp 1005 module and the Doepfer A-137-1 wave multiplier). It sounds deep and lush.
The small knobs seem really unfortunate. I love the Neutron and adding even an LFO would have made it perfect. The addition of a filter the retrig on the envelopes. The AR the two vca’s the two attenuators. It’s a lot of really useful stuff. The subs as well. Just not sure about the ergonomics.
PLEASE, create a green Electron synth to compliment the red Neutron I already have and the blue Proton I plan to acquire! I want a complete subatomic trilogy! 🙂 Also, a green synth with similar visual styling as the Neutron and Proton would complete the trilogy of the three primary colors of light. Make it the same form factor as the Neutron and Proton, and the trio would look fantastic together in my 19" synth rack!
It could also be just an effect module that complements those two. Multiple reverbs and delays, distortion, phaser, flanger and more filters. A complex mutli fx with tons of patchpoints. I would be happy with that.
It sounds Juicy. A nice high energy bite, very Daft Punk / Air. It's clearly not the end of it, flexible and extensive (!!!). There is a Lot of sound possibilities that I'm hearing. You might have a big hit on your hands. Congratulations!
Now that there are two synths with the "Moffat" filter out, can we *please* have service manuals, so when these things start going bad we don't have to reverse engineer them to try to work out why? Might work out why it's more prone to oscillation at high frequencies like at 9:23 too, I can't be the only one who ends up notching the top end of Neutron recordings because of how it likes to stick there and ring. Still a great filter.
Well from what I can see the resonanse is cranked past 1pm which pretty much guarantees oscillation on my Matriarch as well as two of my Eurorack filters.
@@sergoz123 Nah, if you have a Neutron you'll know what I'm talking about. You can set it so it's fairly resonant but not oscillating in mid-range frequencies, and it will oscillate at higher frequencies. On many synths you can observe the resonance is not equal for every frequency, but on the Neutron (and I guess Proton too if it's the same), it's generally more resonant towards higher frequencies. A quirk I'd like to understand. Knob positions aren't gonna be the same between synths.
Wow, more of THIS please! Sounds awesome, and original design too. You say it’s paraphonic, so not duophonic (2-voice polyphonic) with those two filters?
I don't think the UB-Xa D is a standard euro form factor - looks like maybe 5u, while the Neutron, Proton and others in this form factor are 3u x 80hp. The commonality is the UB-Xa D comes with rack ears and Behringer offers rack ears for their euro format modules.
This sounds fantastic. Now I’m wondering why a company would bother making all those vintage synths re-creations when they have the expertise to make good sounding modern synths like that?
Why are the attentuators for the sub osc's backwards? Also thanks for not including a pre-wired distortion and delay in this one (patching around them was a pain).
I'm glad I don't have a wife anymore, I pre-ordered the Model-15, MS-1-Mk.II and the Proton. No way I would have been able to explain why all of those are a necessary purchase while already having the Neutron, Model-D, CAT, Pro-1, Toro, TD3-MO, RD-6, RD-8, RD-9, Crave, Edge, System 100 eurorack, Brains, JT-4000 and Pro vs. mini. My wallet already hates you, so you might as well just keep them coming Behringer! I hope the Spice will come soon, I'd love to have some subharmonics. I wonder what the Electron, Photon and Boson will look like :)
Yes, very tasty! I can't wait to add it to my Neutron and Pro-1. A nice Trinity of analog mono (duo phobic) synths. This will sound nice being driven by my RD-8 drums. And then add some warm pads from my DM-12. Thank you Behringer! I can hardly wait for the Neptune 16 and DS-80! That UB-Xa D is looking and sounding great, as well. Bye, bye wallet, it was nice knowing you.
Whoa, this thing has two LFOs, at least one can be set to one-shot, two ADSR envelopes, and two ASR envelopes that are basically function generators? Killer synth, the kind that people may even sell eurorack modules to get.
It's a really nice synth so far. I also understand the price tag. If you sell it the same day as the Model 15 there has to be a difference in price to that. But if you take 400 Euro, please include more than just 2 patch cables to a semi modular synth. This is just a bit too stingy otherwise.
YES! I've wanted a green Electron synth, ever since they announced the blue Proton. Together with my red Neutron synth, they would be a perfect trilogy, representing all three of the classic subatomic particles, and all three primary colors of light. The three of them would look terrific, mounted together in my 19" rack. ❤💚💙
@@DannoHung Yes, if you get the balance wrong it could accidentally set off a nuclear chain reaction. Behringer should add a quantum mechanics qucikstart guide to the user manual.
@@jean-louispech4921 Personally, I want a Deuterium synth, with a Proton, a Neutron, and an Electron. It's a stable, non-radioactive isotope that has interesting potential for "Fusion". 🙂
