I've said it before and I'll say it again; quail can be aggressive! Whether you're introducing new quail or reintroducing separated quail, there are some important things to consider. I encourage you to watch videos from other quail owners along with this one because there are things that some quail owners have found that work for them that may differ from mine, but work better for you!

I've done this a few times and have had best luck with causing a minature crisis. I get a big black tub. If there are any birds with foot problems I put a couple of inches of water and some epsom salt. Make sure it is cool outside and the tub is somewhere shaded and out of the sun, with air holes! Then I take the birds out and put them in with the new bird/birds into the tub, usually in the late afternoon or evening. It is a good time to check each bird for injuries or illness also. I take the oppurtunity to do a deep clean of the cage and move things around at least for awhile. Hides, toys, food, get switched around. Then after an hour or two everyone goes back in. The confusion gives the new bird/birds time to settle in because everyone is confused. I get a lot less bullying this way.

I introduced new quail to the flock in a completely different setup. It’s all about territorial control so you have to introduce them in a different environment. And leave them there for a few days. Then rearrange the original enclosure a bit to confuse them when they go back to it. This method has worked for me every time.

Introducing new birds can be a bit tricky, but it is obviously possible. I recommend Introducing new birds to an existing flock at night when it is completely dark when they are much calmer.

Quail ❤️ love insects. If you give them insect treats they actually become tame. They get excited to see you, hoping for a treat🥰. It helps tremendously with the flightiness.

Quail can retract their eyes fully into the back of their head (as weird as that sounds). They're a bit like fluffy snails.

I personally have found food and water help alot, keep extra males separated and unfortunately find aggressive quail and dispatch them in a breeding program that have no stressors causing the aggression those birds can’t be used for breeding for risk of passing down that aggressive behavior.

I give several taps on those aggressive ones when they are not nice to others

What a great video! I'm an old man, but brand new to raising quail. Had my first hatch this week. Only 11 of 50 shipped eggs hatched, but I have some more eggs coming in a couple of weeks. Thus I'll have 2 different age groups. I was wondering if I would be able to combine the two groups if the 2nd is also a small hatch. You've given me lots of info. Thanks for such an informative presentation!

You can definitely combine them both, but it does depend on how old they are! If they’re only a week apart, then it should be fine when they are younger. If it’s more than that, then I would wait until they are all around the same size. Congrats on starting quail!!!

No quail yet, getting hatching eggs in September. Glad I found your channel. How do you keep their water from freezing in the winter?

So, I actually keep them in my greenhouse during the winter. If you keep them in a shed, then the water shouldn’t freeze unless there is poor insulation.

Hi from the uk,I'm thinking of getting quail, and my question is,are those cages big enough.also I noticed on video you kept them in a green house, can quail stand high temperatures. Also how do you proccess quail for meat.

That cage is so small for so many. They need space and places to hide. And never breed with an agressive one.

Solution would be MUCH bigger enclosures with things that resemble NATURE !! Branches and grasses to hide under, dirt for bathing !! they can't do any of that in these cages :( of course you will have unhappy and aggressive quail keeping them like this!
