Back in the day we had to take complete sets of photos in a 360° circle. Changing elevation between sets. Then use software that cost a FORTUNE if you wanted to get all the features. So we did what we could with what we could afford. Buy software? Which title would even work? We couldn't get an export from it so who really knew? Or buy a CUDA enabled card? I chose the card and screwed with at least a half dozen kneecapped trial programs. RC has it right IMO. Pay for the results that turn out well. LIDAR in the iPhone is something I hope gets sprinkled into the other ecosystems eventually. If not I will buy the 12 just for that camera. When it drops in price enough to fit my budget. Until then I'm really having a good time with a DSLR and RC software.

this looks amazing! does it use the Lidar capabilities of the newer iphones [like polycam(from that one ghost town video by Corridor)]? and if a phone doesn't have it would it still work?

you damn well know someone popping home with a slightly smudged meh sensor smartphone using hdr instead of a single iso etc is not going to get that chair in a brightly lit white room with a reflective floor. But the idea is great. If you use a wide variety of prohogrammetry tools this ad would be similar to playstation game ads where they only use cut scenes for "graphics".

I'm always skeptical of photogammetry apps as the meshes can be pretty inconsistent. We will see.

There must be a partnership with Apple iOS because this is photogrammetry, a process that does not require Lidar. Premium Android phones have better cameras but still need to wait for it to be released on Google Play. What's the excuse?

Too good to be true. I've seen real photogrammetry to 3d model workflow, and it's really far from what is shown here.

Why this bias against Android? Not that there aren't 3D scanning apps there but leaving one side always with a "later this year" song. That is bias.
