This is such a massive improvement from using the toolbox even just a year or two ago! I'm surprised Tesla not only included live data I would normally use with any other car but also gives a very clear visual image of what is going on. It makes me wonder if other diagnostic tools could eventually add this type of visual aid into their tools for engine management or brake systems. Although the systems are very complex they've made troubleshooting much easier for technicians as long as they understand how these systems work.

Agreed, and over this past weekend Tesla rolled out more updates to the fleet that included more features and options for Technicians. I’ll be taking a deeper dive soon. Additionally, the CAN tools in SM+ should be evolving as well and I look forward to discovering more.

Thanks Scott, and It's very nice video, and very informative. Question about HV system, what does it means of contactor open, and not be able to close? How can we fix this rom the service mode? Thanks in advance.

@@mohammedmohammedkhair9749 You’ll need to follow the info found in service articles. 1st step would be to take the alerts and search for articles within toolbox. You can use the plus (+) sign to add them to the sandbox and then visit sandbox and see how the articles are related and where the info can lead you to a potential solution. I’m looking forward to doing a video on this while demonstrating how it works in the future.

Great information. I noticed there is a button to do “CCS RETROFIT “ at the bottom of the front page HV charging section. Does this allow you to the Gen 4 charge port ECU without needing to use Toolbox 3? Tapping the button takes you to the Unlock Gateway page. What happens when you do that? the Model 3 service manual under ECU - CCS Combo (adapter ) (Retrofit). Says you need to : Set the "Native Charge Port" value: In Toolbox, open the "Infotainment Dashboard". Select "Vehicle Configuration". Select "Read Config" and then click Run. Scroll down to the option "plc_adapter_type". Select "Native Charge Port". Select "Apply Changes" and then click Run. Reinstall the vehicle firmware. See Software Reinstall - Touchscreen. I did the Diy update 2 years ago which added the GEN 4 ECU but required a harness adapter to make it work. This was before there was an official CCS retrofit offered for older Model 3/Y. I want to eliminate the adapter harness with the official Software correction from Tesla. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It also might make an interesting Video for you too.

@@dennisschlieckau8723 I recently had the CCS Retrofit performed by Tesla on my 2018 M3. The cost of the Tesla Service performing this was cheaper than me purchasing the parts and doing it myself. Additionally, there were complications with this service as the 1st attempt was performed by mobile service and upon install a number of alerts were set and charging was disabled. After the service tech consulted with tech support, 2 hrs later it was confirmed that they had the wrong part. (Tesla’s cataloging system isn’t absolute and I’ve experienced challenges like this) After “undoing” the install and then resetting the configs, I had to put up with the alarm system going off randomly. I figured it was probably a SW related mixup. Anyhow the 2nd upgrade was performed and I still had an alarm issue which I believe has been solved following by reinstalling vehicle SW. After this I saw that the VSECRAMAPP module was the only device updated and after an overnight test the problem hasn’t resurfaced. Sorry for the long chat. Anyhow in order to set up the new module one will need to use Toolbox3 and set up the new module in the Infotainment Dashboard and follow the procedures you outlined. When I picked up my vehicle last week from the service center I saw that there was a SW update avail which I believe was triggered by service, which i did perform later. However, as indicated above that apparently left that module mentioned above in a non-updated state. These machines are pretty cool and it’s obvious that as service technicians were going to need to ensure that the SW isn’t the source of the vehicle problems and we cannot do anything about it about it until its right!

@@TechScottBrown Thanks for the reply. I’m glad you Actually had the CCS retrofit performed. This gives great insight into to process and does answer the question about the need for “Toolbox 3” to complete it. bummer I thought I might be able to do it myself.

If there is an error like after replacing crushed Airbags, is it possible to clean the error?
@TechScottBrown
@TechScottBrown 5 месяцев назад
It depends on the error. Service information found within toolbox will provide details as you how the condition will clear. Some airbag deployment events usually require the replacement of modules in addition to the blown air bags. I hope this helps
