This Europe-only Explorer EV is unrelated to the bloated American Explorer, it's based off Volkswagen's MEB platform. Its length is 4,460 mm (175.6 in) vs. 5,050 mm (198.8 in), USA is almost 2 feet longer. And the Ford Expedition is even bigger! Europe hasn't gone full-on "I'll kill anyone who gets in the way of my 3-ton tank while I get a few bags of groceries" like the USA, though they're heading that way with more and bigger three-row SUVs.
That is such a stupid thing to say, they aren’t comparable size and audience vehicles. Without the Fiesta and Focus (and Mondeo gone) Ford has no cars it can sell or of any interest across Europe so they can’t get smaller EV’s out quick enough to replace Fiesta Focus if they are to survive in Europe at all. And most people simply don’t want an EV especially at extortionate charges.
@@garydavis1528 It's a sustainable vehicle that Ford can make a decent profit on that looks better than the old focus, and especially the fiesta, has more features and utility, is more environmentally friendly, will almost certainly require fewer repairs, and with a very low center of gravity, and RWD, should drive just as well, if not better than non-performance versions of those cars. Sure, it's more expensive, but you seem to think I'm saying this replaces the focus/fiesta in terms of price. I'm not saying that in the slightest. It replaces them in terms of plant capacity. Brands tried making super affordable cars, and sure, you'll sell more of them. But if it's not profitable, selling more of them is actually a bad thing. The more you sell, the more money you lose.
@@garydavis1528 Also, it's fusion, not mondeo, get it right 😉. On the topic of what things are called, it's soccer, not football. Also, switch to the superior imperial system of measurement.
Or just buy a VW ID.4 because this explorer is the ID.4 in disguise lol and this is far bigger than a Focus and even bigger than a Fiesta. Oh wait Americans only drive fat SUVs with no one but just the driver inside 🤣
I love how Ford is based out of Dearborn, MI and That city will give you a ticket if you have red or blue ambient lighting inside the cabin. Sorce: I regrettably lived in Dearborn for a while.
I own a Fiesta and a Focus, love them both, this one will probably grow on me, had hard time figuring out what size it is as the US model is large, next to come is the Capri, don't mess up this iconic car Mr Ford.... please?
You all must be on the same page of news handed out by Ford. Moveable entertainment screen, big centre arm rest, glovebox. Would have liked to hear anything about V2L, is there a shade for the glass roof, the haptic buttons on the steering wheel etc. Thanks anyway for what you were directed to present.
Having a "secret" compartment for storage is a great idea. Unfortunately, EVERY reviewer so far has mentioned it, so it ISN'T "secret" any more. Does look nice though. Can't wait to see it in the flesh. Might even be tempted to replace my Mustang Mach E with it.
Why did you give the Explorer name to a vehicle smaller than an Escape/Kuga? Do you have to shrink all vehicles during electrification? You are doing the same mistake you have done with the Mustang Mach-E. Every person I showed it tells me the same thing: 'It is not a Mustang!'. It is a good car but definitely not a Mustang. Thank you for not doing the same to the F150 Lightning.
It will almost certainly handle better than those cars. Rwd vs FWD, and a much lower center of gravity with a wider track enhancing high speed cornering stability. You're writing the car off before you've driven it.
The USA gasoline Explorer is almost 2 ft longer than this Europe-only Volkswagen-based EV (176 inches). Every car maker wants to sell you a bigger expensive EV crossover, they're figuring out how much bigger and how much $$$.
Okay, can you now bring a full size electric SUV to Europe so that I can actually fit my dog back there comfortably? That's not the size I hoped for when I read electric Ford Explorer 😅
She says "built here in Europe for Europe". That's not what I heard. My understanding is that Ford plant in Oakville, Ontario will be assembling electric Explorers along with another electric model.
The people who designed the vehicle have done a very valuable job, I congratulate them all. but why 7 seats were given up. When you think of Ford Explorer, the family car with 7 seats always comes to mind. Please do not ignore this important detail. Your customers will need it. Denken Sie an Ihre Kunden.
@@skierpage I don’t fully agree with you on this because there are currently many 7-seater car models being designed in Europe. The Ford family already has 3 crossover models with 5 seats.
I'm sure USA Ford will eventually come out with the Bloated Behemoth Expedition Max XL EV, but I've heard no plans for it. Get a Kia EV9 or if you have the money the Volvo EX90 or Tesla Model X.
I hate the tablet. Please get these touchscreens out of our cars and bring back buttons! Peugeot is doing better here with a mix of physical buttons and screens, though it's not perfect.
What are the power specifications? A 4-wheel drive Explorer is going to need more power. Elon Musk can't build a battery that will handle the demands of the new Cybertruck, so he is switching to a fuel cell stack technology. How will the Explorer compare? The best car battery out there is still the Panasonic 2170 and that is not saying much.
How can you take something as cool as the legendary Ford Explorer and make this souless abomination? I will keep my old V6 Explorer for as long as possible. At least it's actually practical.
It'll do the same amount of exploring as a fiesta/focus/mondeo.. take you to work do the school run and take you shopping... ford have made a bad move going down this road in Europe especially in the UK
Even the Ford Sierra and Cortina had better lines than this thing. It's a Transit with windows.....Ford are finished in the UK and I loved their cars, but not this butt ugly beast.
dimensions are alright for but only for europe because imho this looks pathetically smaller than the previous gen explorer used by the popo in north america. If they are seriously targeting just a female audience at least give it a ride height that matches the previous generation for anticipating whats ahead and crash survivability. Last thing you wanna be is squished with an explosive lithium battery between two bigger vehicles at a red light by someone who fails to hit the brakes. Ford needs to introduce an everest that the aussies have been enjoying but as a hybrid and those will sell like crazy globally. Dunno what the bigwigs have been smoking such bad decisions first with the mach-e and now this ugh get your stuff together ford.
Ive always loved the explorer...until now. I thought it would be cool if there was an option for an electric explorer if ford kept making it cool looking, but this thing is freaking hideous.
ugh, Ford?! @3:25 a person sensually presses the touch sensitive diplay but there is 0 reaction there and that invokes an awkward "whoopsie" smile. Why put smth like this in a video?🤦♂
It’s a shared battery chassis platform as pay back for Ford making their combustion vehicles into Vw Badged ones. This is a Ford designed and built by Ford onto that chassis where as Fords Vw vehicles are Ford designed and built by Ford for Vw, the first being the pick-up Amarok now out.
Grandpa, just because you don't want one doesn't alter the fact that sales of EVS are increasing every year, and even in the laggard USA a million were sold in the last 12 months.
Top to bottom- interior and exterior, Non-american designers and consultants just fcked up our expectations from legendary Explorer…. FORD US management, shame on you approving this design bringing as the first ExplorervEV model 😢
One big con the battery will only have half its range at 6 years old and depreciation will make it a poor buy as you try to find anyone who wants to buy it knowing the battery will cost a fortune to replace buy a decent deisel and it will be far greener than this disaster of a car .
@@darius.schulz Bro, this is just cruel. You're basically shooting progress in the head because technology that is only now being utilized isn't on par with technology that has over a century of investments and improvements propping it up. Battery tech is very competitive considering it's only received significant attention over the last decade or so. Are batteries just as good as the technology that's had 130 years to develop? No, not in every comparison at least. Just give it time.
@@darius.schulz You're saying a diesel car can go about 600 miles on a full tank. There are already EVs that can travel over 500. EVs with 300-400 miles of range are becoming commonplace.
45k for a Ford I’ve owned only Fords all bar 2 cars and if I had 45k to spend on a car it damn sure wouldn’t be a Ford electric suv especially when the f150 lightning is a massive joke because of its battery issues and I have seen some customers of Mach-Es are not happy because of battery issues. Now if I understand correctly it is on a VAG platform so it might not be terrible because of it German parts but it begs the question why pay 45k for a Ford suv when you can get a VAG car that uses the same platform in a hatchback saloon or estate and will likely have a better level of build quality. You know Fords accounts will get involved and save money on things and ruin it anyway
So far other than the Id Buzz I’m not impress at all with the VAG EVs and think this explorer not only looks better externally with its Land Rover looks but internally as well with an infortainmemt system that looks like it actually works. As for the price, all EVs are expensive and when I recently looked at an ID 3 that was nearly £40k for something that is nothing more than a very cheap looking golf then I personally think the explorer is very reasonably priced in todays EV market.
Not terrible because it will have German parts - European Fords are designed at Merkenich Cologne, most are built in Cologne or Saarlouis in the Rhineland. Those assembled in Spain or Romania use parts sourced from Germany. European Fords are already German!
@@rickerbyct 😂 I am aware that Fords have been designed and built I. Germany for years I’ve owned mk1/2/3 Mondeo mk5/6 Escort and mk2/3 Focus and it was a observation that because parts are coming from the vag group it might not suck and be awful like the F150 lightning with its battery issues even some Mach E have had issues. More importantly Ford are allegedly not going to be building any hatchback saloon or estate cars in the future in favour of suv and crossover and I don’t need or want that so I will likely move to a Skoda next or something from the Vag group
