Watching this brings back so many memories. I remember getting bored and just blowing air through the reed like, "I'm a duck now. Quack quack kazoo." I never called it the boot though, I called the bottom piece the U-turn. This guy is so cool -- awesome story.

@Tenorcleff101
@Tenorcleff101 4 года назад
Me, too, but I think there is a lot more to this story than meets the eye. For a start Bach was calling him something very different than a nanny goat - everyone gets the translation wrong - and anyway, why was Bach wandering around town carrying a sword/dagger? Bach was looking for a fight. More likely the bassoonist had earlier said something about how surprising for Bach's girlfriend to find an organ in the organ loft, and asking what was she playing. This brought a retort questioning the bassoonist's natural inclinations (the meaning of the nanny goat mis-translation) and a suggestion where the bassoon should go, and it all went downhill very badly from there. Bach got his revenge and last laugh later with the 1st Orchestral Suite.
@ozielich
@ozielich 4 года назад
@@Tenorcleff101 It was a fashion sword. Not a fight sword. It was common in those days. Also... somewhere else, the translation is, someone whose flatulence denotes he has had too many unripe onions. Not the most pleasant thing to say about someone's bassoon playing. LOL
@Tenorcleff101
@Tenorcleff101 4 года назад
@@ozielich Onions! :0 Either way, Mr Bach was not being very nice to our bassoonist. I am siding with the bassoonist here and I think Bach was looking for a fight. After all, when did you last see a punch-up after a rehearsal because someone in the band played out of tune? :)

@orgelspielerkmd
@orgelspielerkmd 4 года назад
It's fully chromatic, save the low B natural and low E-flat (though some have an E-flat key). The fingering is simply a bit more creative and there are some notes that are more stable than others -- all features that give the instrument its unique character.

@sifridbassoon
@sifridbassoon 6 лет назад
I have one made by Guntram Wolf that is 440. I got it at that pitch because I figured I could get more use playing it with modern instruments. A lot of manufacturers (like makers of recorders etc.) produce both 415 and 40 versions of the same instrument. One of the challenges of playing early music reed instruments is getting reeds. There are very few makers of early music double reeds. The best thing to do is to just bite the bullet and learn how to make your own!
