The R/T button is to change the steering wheel controls from Radio to Telephone if you have the factory fitted phone system. When selected the display below the Speed and Rev dials shows the names in your stored phone book which you can then scroll up or down using the arrow buttons and the volume during a call. Press it again and the display clears and the arrow buttons revert back to the standard search and volume as normal for the radio cd etc. If there is no phone installed, it does nothing.

The R/T button stands for radio/telephone. If the car is fitted with the optional phone system, the button will switch the wheel controls from operating the radio to going through your phone book, ajusting call volume ect. so since your car doesnt have this, the button does absolutely nothing..... or the button is broken it is a range rover after all.

I heard Doug briefly died, saw God, and asked if he had read his Oversteer column. He said no, and will always mention it in his videos because of that.

Doug, this video hit me right in the feels... I loved your videos before and the dougscore rating system, but this video made it entirely better. I thoroughly enjoyed this video not only because it was the first dougscore, but also because I have a 2004 Range Rover HSE. I have only had it for 2 months now but I have already been loving it and I am hoping to be able to enjoy mine as much as you have enjoyed yours. I am a teenager so I will obviously have a biased opinion over the car since it is my first, but in the little time that I’ve owned it I have grown to love it and seeing this video of you sharing your experiences with your 2006 Range Rover I am hoping to have good experiences as well ;)

The R/T stands for "Relaxation / Tinkering". The idea is that when you are bored and stuck in traffic, you click the little button in and out, in and out, in and out and it provides a degree of relaxation. ....or at least thats what I think it is, because I have not found any other use for it as yet.... but then I suppose there COULD be some other function.... its just not mentioned in the handbook it seems. It's probably something to do with Receive / Transmit or Radio / Telephone. (from forum)

For an FM transmitter, you have to test all of the channels you can and see what works best, most of mine had severe static but I found the perfect channel to give no static.

I've watched so many videos by Doug Demuro that at 0:16 when he said "the dougscore" I was so ready to hear "starting with the weekend categories and styling..."

The 2006-2009 were fantastic. They had the very stout 4.4 V8 and ZF transmission. Awesome cars.

13 mpg and its gets 9/10 in practicality ??? Why would you combine fuel economy and practicality in the same category? Fuel economy and safety should have its own category, in which the Range Rover should get 2/10 in fuel economy and 7/10 in safety

R/T = Change steering wheel button layout to work for Radio / Telephone

Doug the R/T button on the wheel stands for Radio/Telephone and is used when the owner has a compatible wired telephone plugged into the car. It also performs some menu features for when using the phone. And not confirmed but a double tap of it will allow you to select a specific track on the currently playing CD, although I am not positive on the last one i never used CDs just what the forums say

Having watched a number of videos on Land Rover’s, I think one video about Land Rover as a company summed it up really well. Therefore, I have the follow summary to share for consideration. Apologies for the length but I hope this makes sense. Land Rover are a specialist 4x4 car maker. Each model of car designed and produced has been engineered separately and they don’t share too many parts across the range like mainstream car manufacturers do. Therefore, when the parts wear out most replacements are often specific for the car in some cases more expensive than your run of the mil mainstream car company and you most likely will use a specialist. Adding some personal experience, I have worked in a Land Rover Specialist and the parts systems certainly reflect this. Land Rover don’t have a global manufacturing infrastructure with access to Billions of dollars in funding for research and development like mainstream. Land Rover don’t have thousands of factories making millions of cookie cut cars sharing all the parts for cost reduction. Land Rover is not a white goods car maker, they are luxury, small and unique. Land Rover often take more risks adding new technology and capability to their cars before any other brand has tried it out. This is why there are “Land Rover Specialists” out there supporting the brand and brands like Ford, Nissan and Toyota etc don’t have specialists, just mainstream garages. Land Rover’s uniqueness will make them more high maintenance that you’re average brand. Should Land Rover vehicles have major safety defects which could injure or cost the lives of their customer, they don’t have access to Billions $ in funds to pay for lawyers to keep this quite and make it all go away!, like some mainstream car have had this happen. Land Rover have never had this issue. Land Rover cannot be compared to makes such as Ford, GM, Toyota, Nissan etc etc. These brands are comparable to themselves across their range of, Sedans, Sports and 4x4 models. Land Rover does not sit within this bracket of car manufacturers. Even VW, Audi, BMW and Mercedes are bigger firms than LR with closer products to Land Rover. So, if you want a car for greater reliability, cheap fix’s and lower maintenance, don’t buy a unique car like a Land Rover. Head out to a mainstream car company and buy one every 3-5 years like they want you to, problem solved. However, if you want something very unique and different and are prepared to use a specialist and spend more $ on maintenance each year and drive something special, then maybe Land Rover ownership is for you. However, knowing what you’re getting yourself into. A motoring journalist said once, think of Land Rovers as owning a “mini Bentley”. Pretty true. Love or Hate them, make your choice. However, comparing them to a mainstream car is not an argument. If you love them and want to spend more time and money than on your average car, then thats great if it makes you happy. Thats what life is about. Being happy. However, if you don’t like them and think they are bad, simply don’t buy one. If you’re happiness is different to others, being that you don’t want to have to think about or worry about your car then thats you’re place to be. There is no right or wrong with the Land Rover brand. It’s just a lifestyle choice. By way of background, I have two cars. Yes a Land Rover and also a Nissan 4x4. The Nissan i never think about, it just does it’s job like my fridge does. Nothing to get excited about it’s just there and does OK. Low cost, low thrills does the job and a has a good stereo!. The Land Rover, yes costs me more. Had a few more repairs than the Nissan. But my Land Rover is great to drive and makes me smile! It’s a great machine and unique

porbably the only guy in history who rated the handling of a Trabant :) i have to agree though, that one of the most freeing feelings is not caring if you scratch your car anymore. I have an F10 and only recently it stopped going to my nerves whenever a tiny scratch would appear.

I've owned 4 Range Rovers 02,05,07 and recently a 2011 and I have to say they all have been reliable and have never left me stranded. My 09 E70 X5 has been in the shop more often then all 4 Range Rovers combined. I see myself getting another RR soon.

The tailgate unlatching issue has got to be the funniest thing I've seen in years. Just the imagery of the tailgate popping out and relocking is so good.

R/T is the Radio - to - telephone feature. It changes the radio controls on the steering wheel to phone controls, only if you equipped it with the factory phone. Love the show man

I have had several Range Rovers from 2001 to 2012 and never had these issues. If you are familiar with them the 2003-2005 were BMW built and in 2006 FORD took them over and that is when all of these issues started for a few years. In atypical American car build fashion they cut quailty on so many parts of the car. 2006-2007 were not great. 2008-2009 were fantastic many improvements were worked on. I bought a new 2008 Supercharged and in 60000 miles only installed one set of tires and brakes it was one of the most reliable cars I have owned. Most people that buy these cars really do not care about long term reliablity.They buy a new car every two or three years anyway and never get into the 100000 mile range. They are solid, luxurious and have incredible off road/dirt road capabilites. I have a cabin in the woods of Western Maine and only drive this car there. Dirt roads and ruts everywhere. My friends Tahoe (2016) shakes so badly up there you cannot have a conversation in the car with all of the noises and squeels. The Rover is just as though you are on the highway...solid quiet and sturdy!

My car scores a zero because I don't have a car

What if I told you the tailgate was locking because the truck seals so well? When he slams the drivers door, the tailgate pops out and then slams itself shut.. A reasonable person would hit the "Unlock" button instead of the tailgate release button, and guess what? the tailgate can be opened from the back instead of walking back and forth.

Anything above a 7.1 gets a 1? 90% of your viewers have cars that are a 1.

The R/T button is for Radio/Telephone. If your phone is connected via bluetooth, it allows you to switch between your telephone phonebook and your radio stations and scroll through either in the dash screen. I have the same thing in my E38 750il.
