I have my longmill up and running for a good half year now, but I started using my laser module for most of the time. Yesterday I came accross the auto touch plate on the sienci forum and had a "waitaminute moment". It took me a few hours to locate mine and install it. Oh my! Why have I not used this right when I got to carving a month ago. What a pleasure to use. This thing rocks!

I can't believe that this video is a year old and i've never seen it. I've been using gSender for a while now (thanks to videos from Garrett Fromme) and I love it. But this new touchplate looks to be a game changer!!! Looks like I know what my next purchase for my cnc is gonna be, lol. Thanks guys, yall got it goin on!!!!!

@@francoazzolini9973 Yes for Juice grooves and Outlining a couple signs. I have a complete set from 1" to 1/4" They work well.

@@BuckysCustoms Thanks Bucky, how do you set it up a box bit with the AutoZero Touchplate? With carvings and v bits I have no problem with the box bit I just cannot figure it out! It keeps jamming on one site and almost broke the bit

MANNNNNN I was just there and bought a touch plate !! I knew i should of waited, Jason my man is helping me out with an issue I'm having shout to your support staff !! Question: so you can put the bit/EM anywhere in that squared off area correct? the probe figures out the center for you it doesn't matter if its a V-bit or Upcut/dpwncut Endmill just put it somewhere in that square and probe or do you have to put it over the sienci logo as well ? thanks in advance

Yes, just like our current touch plate where you start in the circle, except this time you start inside the square. There's an option to select either straight bit or tipped bit (such as v-bit or tapered bit) and that's it, it figures out the rest for you

Can you use the touch plate Z axis setting to find the high spot on a piece of wood, such as a resawn slab that is warped?

You could theoretically do that, yes. We don't have anything set up for that specifically right now but are planning on implementing something like a 3D height scanning for gSender sometime in the coming year

interesting ive been using my vbit with the original touch plate but ive been using easel so the xy has to be manually zeroed anyways

Yes, the original and all other touch plates will allow for zeroing in the Z on v-bits and tapered bits, just not in the X or Y

Not all bits, or correct me if I am wrong but diamond drag could not be done here because there is no interconnected vibration dectector right?

Correct, the bits still need to be able to carry a conductive signal through the plate and back to the machine

If I set up a v bit in VCarve, why would I need to set it up in the touch block other than the Z? All gsender needs to know is XYZ, right? The gcode tells it what bit is being used...am I correct?

You still need to tell gSender where the "corner" of your work piece is, otherwise the carve may not happen in the location you want it to. If we understand your question correctly?

I ordered the mk2 with all the bells and whistles. It's on backorder. Will it come with the new or old touchplate?

The touch plates are add-ons for the machine since they're not strictly necessary and other people prefer to set zero in their own way. If you didn't order a touch plate on your existing order the you can order it separately with 'local pickup' and leave a note to add it to your other order. If you already bought the previous one then you can contact us if you'd like to switch to this new one instead and we can sort out the change with you 👍

Are these only compatible with Longmill cnc’s, or can they be used with other cnc setups?

As long as your CNC supports closed-circuit a.k.a. continuity touch plates then you'll be able to use this 👍 there's no fancy circuitry built-in and the movement script is currently built-in to gSender

Is this available for an Inventables X-Carve Pro using Easel pro? If not will it be someday and when?

As far as I'm aware Easel Pro doesn't have the option to run custom macros or use custom touch plates, do you know if that's correct? If so then we would be able to get it to work. It is possible though to control the X-Carve Pro with our gSender software, where you can use the tough plate there

Interesting innovation to a genuine irritant issue. Will this only ever be a Sienci-specific probe due to the software calculations or is there a plan to release similar probe modules to other CNC vendors or an SDK?

As far as the plate itself it's electrically a simple closed continuity so that aspect is surely already widely supported We're happy to be making the probing procedure available soon once we finish some final tweaks. There are some 'on the fly' calculations that need to be done within the g-code that other senders will need to be able to support so it'll be up to them to make that sort of advanced g-code available to users via macros. We'll see how we can develop it further once we know the design is working well.

I am getting alarms for soft limits I do have the sensors installed. Why would using the touch plate give me soft limit alarms?

Hi there, It's likely your material is too close to the bottom left side of the machine and the bit won't travel in negative numbers? Move the material to the top right about an 1.5" inches and try again. If you haven't already, check out our resources page for the troubleshooting video on the touchplate. I tried to use the auto zero using these very steps and it ended up dragging my bit across the surface of the plate. It's got a scratch in it now. What could I have dine wrong? I filled these steps exactly and it still failed.

It's possible to use with Mach 4. We're planning to release the macro code used for the plate so that it can be used across all machines

how to get around that ?? reverse your spindle direction and probe slowly.

Yes that is an option, if you have a spindle with full control then running in reverse on slow feed could work to touch off especially better for spiral bits. You can still run into problems though for tapered, v-bits, and ball-nose bits

@@SienciLabs not if its a cylinder probe. it could Z first then do a x+ x- go up go to the edge of the probe Z probe over a few times. it would know the V degree And or radius if the math is correct for the macro. All spinning in reverse which makes it worth it to enable it

@@SienciLabs If you have your toolpaths set for the center of the project in the xyz prob mode there is a advanced setting you can put in the size of the project center datum and it will move there and zero x and y at that spot it will work on all the corners too

Oh ok, interesting. In gSender the feature isn't exactly the same but if your project was 20 by 20 then you could type in -10 and -10 for the X and Y locations and that would shift your zero to be the center

very expensive, i think this price need be include men come ewerywere world setting code too this tools. i not understand any how this setting code and use at linuxcnc. this price factory need make code to my cnc machine too ready, i need only bush button and set xeros.

Hi Matti, we can assure you that for what the AutoZero offers you won't find anything else that exists with the same features for the same price. Now at the end of the day is it 100% needed for running a CNC, absolutely not - but the reason people have interest in getting it is because it's very repeatable and takes away more of the thinking you'd normally have to do when setting up a job on your machine

@@SienciLabs hmm,same price my linuxcnc not can buy cheapen or better, i not believe but maybe not. linuxcnc have better lot than mach3 or 4. and FREEEEEEEE no need pay stupid licence, can this touch use whit linuxcnc normal whitout lot modified.

interesting this touch plate. BUT i looking how much cost and have totally out of hobby user budget, NO thanks. need be 90% drop price down, then hobby users buy.

Based on our market research, we found that 1) there aren't any touch plates that offer the functionality that the autozero does, and 2) most are around the same price or even more expensive than the Autozero without the same functionality. If it is out of your budget, I'd recommend checking out our other touch plate on our website which is $35CAD.

@@SienciLabs i looking very easy made Z height tool zero plate less than 4 $ but i looking how make XYZ tool. i not understand this code, to make linuxcnc, mach3 has many example but worst software have not use newer again mach3 i just changes software to linuxcnc lot better use, and FREE i build new machine to my son and him say need auto zero -xyz too. but this XYZ have me new think. need someone help how this make to linuxcnc. and looking many many zero tools and video but all have super expensive. example this tool. i made own aluminium parts if first understand this code better how make button to pc display zeroing, and then mill aluminium block if all what can buy have too expensive, simple made - hardware and wiring have simple but code not. and add button tools to display.
