PCM Sportscar & Classic Specialist Ben Musu introduces the iconic high-performance model in this showcase video before hosting a Virtual Cars & Coffee event on Saturday 16 May via Instagram Live (@PorscheMelbourne).
When I was a little dude, the Ferrari F40 on the Porsche 959 were the two greatest cars on the planet. Now that I think about it - not much has changed.
Remember watching Chris Goffey showing it on Top Gear for the Frankfurt Motor Show 1987. Took my breath away. I have never seen one on the road but saw one in a Porsche showroom in Bangkok in 2004 .I was so taken by the car I begged to be taken to Earls Court "Motorfair 87" Just to see this car. Got to see the car in the flesh and bought a die cast version. I was 10!. Finally got to sit in one in 1990. This happens to be my favourite car of all time. It was a revelation technology wise.
Lots of interesting info and excellent editing. I love the 80's synth music and very clever to turn it down while Ben is talking. A lot of work going into these videos, hope you guys have the time to keep them coming as we come out of lockdown. Literally everything about Porsche is interesting to us car nerds so at least there's never any shortage of content. Especially with the cars you guys have access to.
Wow, another model i knew nothing about. I am thoroughly enjoying learning about the Porsche of old which have culminated in to the Porsche of today. Thank you.
Great job! I’ve remained a huge fan of the 959 right from when I first time that I saw it in the newspaper in the mid 80s. Many who weren’t car enthusiasts at that time have difficulty comprehending how much more advanced the 959 was then any other car produced to that point. And this, from a company that was much smaller than most, as they were not part of the VW group at that time, and were fully independent, Unlike almost every other high-end sports car manufacture of the time. I had the great fortune of seeing them being constructed in the Reuterworks, while on a tour of their Zuffenhausen production faculty back in the spring of 1986. An experience I will never forget! Great details presented in this video, several of which I was unaware of!
Great video on one of my favourite cars! Wonderful description of the many features that made the Porsche 959 such an advanced, even revolutionary, sports car. Australian fans of the Skyline GT-R R32 should also know that much of its tech was inspired by the 959. Congratulations to Mr. Ben Musu and PCM, with greetings from Portugal 🇵🇹
Kinda unfair of Porsche to race a sportscar against a bunch of SUVs in the early Paris Dakar race. The 959 would’ve been eaten up had it raced against Lancia in Group B
