Mike Schmidt's final appearance in a Phillies uniform. My all time favorite player and the best player I ever seen play the game both offensively and defensively.
Interesting fact about Reuschel being the All Star game starting pitcher was that he and Frank Tanana were the only pitchers to give up home runs to both Hank Aaron and Barry Bonds.
I think my favorite part is the playful (I think) booing of Mike Scioscia by the fans in Angel Stadium, the man who would soon give them 19 years of managing, a World Series, and Mike Trout.
What I remember about this game is Bo Jackson and Wade Boggs hitting back to back Home Runs in the first inning. And hitting them to about the same part of the stadium.
Pretty classy fans-giving Schmidt such a long, nice ovation. Not sure that would happen in any MLB park today for a non-home team player. Fans were a bit smarter and more appreciative then.
Couple things I noticed. #1, I didn't realize that Mitch Williams had made an all star game and #2, how powerful of a lineup did you have to have if you have Ryne Sandberg hitting 8th.
the funniest thing in this video is watching pro players wearing an Expos uniform that no longer exists. Mikey you're one of the best even-though you retired.
Am I the only one who thought these late '80s brown pinstripes were EASILY the best Padres uniforms ever? They need to bring that look back. Their current unis are the most boring things imaginable.
What really stands out when watching these old clips is how much the demographics of baseball have changed. I counted 2 non-americans, Tony Pena and Pedro Guerrero (Dominicans). Now MLB is full of foreigners.
Why, to laugh at? Reagan was so bad announcing the game during that inning that he would make even Sparky Anderson and Tom Paciorek ( when they were announcers ) look like HOF broadcasters.
the thrill! in some reasons the best player in all time gwynn said same that days piches verocity s numbers are slower than now but piched balls quality was better than now zdooon type piches that days and now all players are almost same but that day characteristic
The scariest thing for me in this ballgame was hearing Ronald Regan announce an inning, he was clueless and senile while the game was happening. It was only a 1/2 year since he was out of office.
