Air pumps are one of the first 'modern' technologies we invented. Bless these guys for reminding us. There are now a number of technologies, air pumps are now site specific for best application. I have seen small airpumps lift water 5m and send it 300 metres on a small 110/240 v compressor... run on solar. It is nice for these men to put something like this on youtube. Cheers and danke u wel... Floot..

1. Oxidation (esp. for fish tanks), 2. Cooling/heating water with natural outdoor air temp, 3. Decorations, 4. Putting some balls (or anything!) filled with tonic water, or fluorescent materials, and illuminating them with black light(UV) , which is pretty much enjoying to watch, which no one will probably deny. :)

Also, instead of drilling holes, and also a rough filter (at the base), you can use perforated PVC sheet. Just warm it (or cold bend) and place around the pipe. Glue it flat to the bottom of the tube (for a filter), and around the tube for bubble generation. For bubbles, just make large slots in the tube first.

Brumby pumps use air in a slightly modified design, to push water over 100-ft (32m) in head. Is bore size or air pressure more limiting?

I would like to ask a couple of nuts and bolts questions on design. At the 4:40 point, you mention the there should be approximately 3-4 lines of holes and .5 - 1.0 for the airholes size. I noticed that the holes were drilled on an angle to help the lift, Is this correct? Would the holes be larger or smaller to move more water efficiently on the 110 mil (4") pipe and would you decrease the size of the holes if you decrease the size of the pipe to say 2'' or 3'' instead of the 4'' (110) Thank You for your response. Very informative!

I have a question. With regards to the display system behind them, which has the bright yellow/ green poster and below it is 20 watt = 15000 ltr....What would happen if the left chamber was pressurised? would the air lift pump be able to pump into the pressurised tank? or would the pressure be too great for the air being pumped to overcome and deliver water into the pressurised tank?

While testing for improvements on my air lift bubbler on my 19' deep shallow well I discovered that I just need the right amount of air (no less, no more) to get the most GPM of water and keep de drop-- riser pipe end were the bubbler is installed as close to the bottom of the well, in my case 10" to 18", I assume this because liquids on the bottom always put pressure up.

If your pond, mechanic filter and bio filter system are in the same level underground, this airlift pump will reduce your electric bill substantially since you only need some means to circulate the water. If your filter system was setup above the ground, then this airlift pump won't work well. To lift the water up high, the air pump needs to inject quickly one large air bubble into the pipe to cover the whole surface area of the pipe to push a section of water column up one at a time like a capsule. To do so, the pipe should be smaller than the one demo in this video clip. With this technique, they can go up to 100-200ft because the air always goes up while the water pump cannot lift the whole weight of water inside the pipe up. For the airlift, they just need to calculate the ratio of air capsule, section of water height, and frequency of injection. The funny thing is you will see it pop rather than a continuous flow of water on top.

Over unity does not exist. Try it yourself, it will fail. I used to think the same way you did until 100's of failed experiments. There is no way to have a self-running system. You could however invest into alternative energies like wind, solar, etc.
@U812GREEN
@U812GREEN 9 лет назад
I understand there always need to be power to start.
@jameslangstonevans
@jameslangstonevans 9 лет назад
U812GREEN no, not just to start, but also to overcome the friction of the water rubbing on the sides of the pipes, the power lost to mechanical inefficiencies of the pump, and the power lost to running the generator. I once had a plan for a car that ran on an additional wheel that had a chain drive to the other wheel. the speed of the ground moving in comparison to the car would move the other wheels. hurr
@bugs181
@bugs181 9 лет назад
James Evans Hey, I had a similar project! It seems silly now but at the time it made sense. lol. That said, I've mostly been focusing my efforts on alternative energy storage mechanisms. Like compressed air, hydrogen, etc. The efficiencies don't really bother me. My goal is to create an extremely low cost storage mechanism. Batteries just aren't there yet. Most people on YT just don't seem to comprehend that. Take oxyhydrogen storage for example. Oxyhydrogen via electrolysis uses 140% more energy to generate than you get back, then you have another loss converting the hydrogen into electricity via a hydrogen full cell (something like the Bloombox). The loss in the second half is only around 2 to 3%. Overall ineffiiciencies are somewhere around 143%. That's still about 57% usable of a double-upped solar panel or wind turbine, with potentially unlimited storage in something like a huge propane tank of some kind. Solar panels can be had for less than $1 a watt. Some sources even down to 35 cents a watt. Whereas most lithium batteries are still +$1.50 a watt. To me, doubling up the solar panels hands down beats the cost of conventional batteries. Thoughts?
@jameslangstonevans
@jameslangstonevans 9 лет назад
how are you comparing solar @ 35 cents a watt to batteries at 1.50 a watt. are you referring to the kwh storage capacity of a battery? you can't use your solar without some kind of storage mechanism. Look into the costs of hydrogen storage. those tanks have to be safe, and therefore they aren't cheap. the cost will be much closer to batteries than you think. Also, it will be much larger, and nobody is putting 5 cubic meter tank in their car. Also, the fuel cell is expensive as well. Compressed air has suprisingly proven usable for the stop and go energy storage to create hybrid systems for UPS type delivery trucks.

Mr. Jon, at 3:20 you say "the adjustment depends on how much air you want to release into the system". I understand what you are trying to say, but it doesn't address what the customer concern is. It is the flow rate of water, (in which ever measure system they use), which the customer wants. This is a principle used in home aquariums. Your next improvement might be a power source. Solar? I sincerely wish you the very best of luck.
@hibox1981
@hibox1981 9 лет назад
I think he means the flow will depend on the air contributed in water
@Cockroach2008
@Cockroach2008 9 лет назад
hibox1981 Probably so! The principal is the same for an aquarium filter pump. Air is introduced at the bottom of the riser & the buoyancy of the air has a lifting effect on the water trapped within the confines of the tube which encapsulates it. I don't find it that revolutionary, just a large scale of a known proven principal. But it is energy efficient for the lifting water a few inches. However, for lifting greater elevations, the efficiency quickly drops off.

Now send it down 300 feet and a 2 foot diameter pipe. Send 1 or 2 bubbles up the pipe and see if it will turn a hydraulic pump that runs the compressor and generator.

Do you mean to say that air lift can't push water above water level

@@shyamhingankar7442 no…. But in this video it isn’t lifting very high.

This stuff only circulating water, water will not be lifted beyond from the height of the water level. Please note the height of the water surface of the two tube, you can see the water flowing just below the upper water surface.

It will easily lift it another 2 - 3 feet of head hight, but there will be losses in the flow rate. (Please note that the outlet has been specifically placed at air exit level, and is not in a pond or lake. This is a closed loop sump situation).

Entr Opy apparently a fish tank air pump can lift water the height of a house

this is can not be a pump, water cant go above the water level, what is it used for??
@jameslangstonevans
@jameslangstonevans 9 лет назад
alfahdms watch the balls very closely. the demo has a closed system, but if this was placed into a large reservoir, the water could soon be out of the reservoir. if there was an outlet on the side rather than the return pipe, it would squirt out the side and the demo here would quickly be mostly empty (except that the pump needs the water pressure to work) The idea is that it feeds into a hydroponic growing medium a few feet higher, goes through the medium, and then back down the reservoir where it is lifted again.

+Robert Heal thats what I was thinking. But in this video, they are merely using the airlift as a water circulation and aeration device.

+Jarred Sawczyszyn yes you kan do nothing else with a airlift !
@PrestonTalbott
@PrestonTalbott 6 лет назад
Wrong. You can put a pipe with air in it and the water in the pipe due to the air will lift the water above the pipe, which is often seen in under gravel filters in aquariums. Watch this if you don't believe and stop spreading misinformation. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-03EmME_OB-s.html

They keep the outlet below head to maximize flow, but it's possible to pump above head with an airlift. Glenn Martinez is known for designs that pump very high.

While pneumatic water pumps are possible, this video is a scam. When the water level is above that of the pumping height you aren't pumping at all.

Sooo.... This is not a water lifter, but a water circulation device that oxygenates water? I have on of those on my desk, in my aquarium. No disrespect. I'm just not getting what's new.
