This is a very nice tutorial. I have watched hundreds on different jewellery techniques and never commented on the videos but I just wanted to say this one is really really good. Very easy to understand and follow with beautiful finished results/jewellery. You’ve made it look so much easier than I thought it was going to be and now I can’t wait to give it a go. Keep up the great work. Thank You.

I just started my first "maille" project, and I see I need new pliers. I'm working on a Byzantine chain, and my wrists are killing me. Those are nice looking pliers, and I imagine they would be worth the investment seeing I'm loving chain maille.

How much wire do you need? And will the 14k gold filled wire off ebay work?
@beaducation
@beaducation 6 лет назад
since this is just an intro class we aren't working towards a finished project so she doesn't mention exactly how much you need. I would just start with at least 3 feet and start giving it a go. I am not familiar with wire from eBay, but if it labeled as Gold Filled it should be fine. If you are making your own jump rings, make sure the wire is not too "hard" - it should be labeled.

Great video and wow, the one on pepe tool jump ring maker really clarified everything to me. All this step by step. . I have a question as to which mandrels to use to make the jump rings you taught us with the jump ring maker. Thank you so much btw. I have to do 10 mm jump rings with 20 gauge. I have looked at charts but don't really get it. Which number mandrel do I use with the pepe tool jump ring maker please? Which one will be used if I use 18 gauge to make 10 mm jump rings also. I have not grabbed the concept yet. Thank you.
@beaducation
@beaducation 6 лет назад
The mandrels should have the mm size on them. So if you wanted to make a 10mm ID jump ring, you would use the 10mm mandrel, no matter what size gauge you are using. If they aren't labeled you can measure them with a caliper.
@divamother9876
@divamother9876 6 лет назад
You are so kind to have answered. Maybe I applied too much tension and they didn't turn out good. I use the mandrels with the pepe tool machine. Yes, they make good mandrels, they are labeled. it's the student the problem , which means it's me. Thank you very much.

Are all your jump rings Sterling Silver?
@beaducation
@beaducation 8 лет назад
+Clarence Marsh Hi! Colin prefers to use sterling silver jump rings. You can use any jump rings that you like. Just be careful when selecting the size. Some companies list the size by the Inner Diameter, and other Outter Diameter. You can find a link to the jump rings used in this class in the video description. Have a great day!

Hi! Are you asking if the jump rings are dead soft or half hard? We don't specify that specification on our jump rings. You can find a complete list of the materials and tools used in this class here, beaducation.com/online_classes/40-introduction-to-chainmail Thanks!
