To those who have an issue with the mesh fracturing on start up change the object type to "Sleeping" this will prevent it from fracturing automatically
Alright, this hinted me towards the right direction. However, if I don't want to increase the size of the projectile, what else can I do? If I switch on Simulate Physics on either the Collision Sphere or the Static Mesh in the Projectile, it does affect the destructible, but at the cost of errors. And I can't get Fire Impulse, using Radial Force, to work. It says it should affect destructibles and I've played with Force, Impulse and Damage but it simply ignores it. Any ideas? (ooh, saw that you cover some of that in next video)
Hi mate. Can I just say I'm loving your channel. Good unique content, focused on UE5, and really clean tutorials/information. Keep it up, hope you get more subscribers! I have two quick questions; 1. On your reddit example - how did you add the explosion? 2. Is there a way to have a very large wall, and when the gun fires it only destroys that small section? When I try it at the moment, shooting a large object destroys the whole thing - I'd like to only make part of it destructible?
Both of your questions will be covered in the next video coming very soon! Will we create the required physics fields to achieve both things you ask about.
Hey great video, thank you. Small question here, placing my standard cube in the level, upon play, the cube breaks by itself. Could you point me in the right direction as to how to avoid that? I've searched quite a bit but either i've fallen in the wrong doc or i'm looking for the wrong info?
@@buildgameswithjon7641 Hey Jon, thanks for answering. Well it used to Say 5EA now it just says 5 so I don't think it's the preview version? It did automatically upgrade though
@@RA-lw5gp 5EA is Unreal 5 Early Access. You need the new Unreal Engine 5 that was released called Preview. Those two are not the same. I was having similar issues as well when using the Early Access version.
@@RoyalDog214 I can confirm 5EA auto upgrades into 5.0 while 5.0 preview 1 is another seperate download install. Thanks for the info Fox and Jon. Will come back to confirm the functionality works as it should
The one doing the destroying here I think is just the ball colliding with the box. I tried to get this to work in my project and spent few hours not understanding wtf is wrong. The impulse/force etc don't do anything with chaos stuff I think. For chaos destruction to work need to use master field, that's in the engine folder.
Thanks for the great tutorial Jon, When I tried doing this, my cube immediately started fracturing, I started with the template first person environment. Any thoughts or tips?
Hey man, been learning UE for about 2 months and just discovered your very helpful tutes! Is there a way to get these cubes etc to break upon line trace hit?? I kinda added an impulse on hit and it's moving the normal cubes but won't break the fractured one. I even set the impulse as high as 10,000 and the cube's mass as low as 0.01... I'd really love to get this working so any help would be hugely appreciated. :)
Im having a problem. I am trying to use a gun with linetrace and using add impulse. But i cant get it to break/add impulse. Do it not work with line trace? cant find any videos of people using linetrace.
Great tutorials (much needed for me). I've upgrade UE5 to Preview 2 and it soooo slow with destruction. Do you know how to downgrade to preview 1 version?
so ...how i press a button and explode something intoo many pieces? can you make a tutorial for that (and mabe some exploding short sequence ,and some message like mission complette )
DOES THIS WORK WITH VR???? idk if you mess around with vr but i have a quest 2 and as of 4.27, destructible meshes arent permitted i guess. I was hoping they found a way and fixed it
Is there any reason to still use ue4??? I can't seem to find out if its ok to still be in ue4, learning. I heard that their are significant performance increase automatically and well the terrible bugs in ue4 arent all on ue5 sooo it does sound better. Great video, thank you!!!
What if I wanted a specific custom made mesh to break in specific way. Like if I had a object that is made up of some more organic then concrete? Is there like different 'states' I can have remodeled versions of the broken up object? I am sure there was already a way to do it but curiouse about efficiency.
How can I break the mesh without a projectile? I'd like to have it so that the item breaks automatically as the player enters the vicinity of the object.
This was awesome, but I was hoping someone could help with a proximity destruction of an item. Like how to get a wall to collapse when you get close to it. Anybody know how to make that collision work? This was great all the same.
Can I create a prefractured mesh in 3D modelling program like blender and use that? Lets say I want to have a Barrel that breaks into specific parts, and not into blocks of stones.
Yes for sure. You can import the model in pieces and then select all the pieces and go to fracture mode and click "new" to create a collection. It will be a collection of all the pieces you selected.
@@buildgameswithjon7641 that's awesome thank you. Please do more tutorials on this topic if you can, things like anchoring and optimization. I looked up your older video and from other content creators, it seems like it changed a lot in this new preview.
Dude, the title of this tutorial is Intro to Chaos etc ... NOT spending 2 minutes 16 seconds of the total 7 minutes figuring out how to buff your paintball projectile
