What’s the difference between the chromatic accordion and the diatonic one, the ‘squeezebox’.
And where is it played?

The best video on describing Diatonic Accordeons worldwide I have seen so far. However, you forgot to add Colombia (Vallenato), Ireland & Perhaps most importantly-Germany. I gather that these Accordeons are often referred to as "Harmonicas" in other countries (after all, they are really just "Harmonicas in a Box with Bellows & Buttons attached"). Fine Job - Thank You !
@EduardBekker

In fact you are right. But it is simply an selection. I choosed Latin Amerika (Mexico), but it is true: no Celtic. Germany was choosen by Austrian music, which is similar to Bavaria and Slovenia. Ireland is missing: but the fact is the tuning of their squeezeboxes is totally different.

If so, there is a lack of diatonic accordion gaucho's music, so much popular (Argentina, Southern Brazil, Uruguay) - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LmgridC1qoU.html

Yeah there are many Latin American genres that specifically use diatonic button accordions besides Mexico like the already mentioned Colombian Vallenato and Brazilian Gaucho music, there's also Dominican Republic (Perico Ripiao), Panama (Tipico) Argentina (Chamame) etc.

The Austrian 🇦🇹 couples’ playing, sounds to me, very much like a Pipe Organ. It’s almost “church-like ✝️”. Therefore it could be played for religious music. Sounds magnificent. I wish I played more then the simple piano 🎹. I’m not coordinated enough to learn an Accordion 🪗. Too 😢 sad for me.

Great stuff, thanks! But Cajuns sing in 'corrupted French'?? Its a language, one of the many varieties of French in the world. C'est le français de la Louisiane! There's nothing corrupted about it. In fact, like Canadian French, Cajun French preserves many features of older French that are no longer found in France. No language is corrupted - language is always changing - and all the varieties are beautiful. Just like all the varieties of accordion music :). OK, on to better things. Thanks again for the fine vid!
@EduardBekker
@EduardBekker 6 лет назад
Your are completely right. ‘corrupted’ was a quite ugly translation to English from the Dutch. ‘A French dialect’ had been better. I have plans to make this video bigger to put also for example the Irish queezebox to it. So who knows...

Eduard Bekker Thanks a lot for the reply and the sentiments! Good luck with the editing, look forward to more. Irish of course, Québécois accordion great too plus there’s the footwork, Colombian música vallenata as someone else suggested, great stuff from the Dominican Republic too (‘cibaeño’). Also many different button accordions in Russia and the former Soviet Union - not just bayan; plus Azerbaijan and Georgia. Tho not all diatonic. Anyhow all best and thanks again!

Cajun language is (maybe not “corrupted’ as a negative term) but corrupted as a “blending” of idioms & alternate linguistics. It is my experience, that Cajun language AND music is highly influenced by the Haitian 🇭🇹 people who immigrated into Louisiana many, MANY years ago. Music is a language unto itself & can translate so much more than simple words can. Especially emotion.

Excellent video!! You forgot the irish (reels), the colombians (cumbias, vallenatos)... but I assume it's impossible to present everybody, so a choice has to be done! Very nice video, really! Btw there is 2 minor errors in the catalan part: 1) the city name is "La Seu d'Urgell" ; and 2) the song name is "La relliscada", with double "l". If you correct it that would be perfect!!

I'm surprised the old fashion button accordion is still used. I would think that the piano accordion has more notes and you can play more chords with the keyboard. The 120 button bass notes and chords of the left hand surely has more notes than the 6-10 for the left hand of these instruments.
@EduardBekker
@EduardBekker 6 лет назад
The diatonic (bisonoric) accordion is much smaller. That’s it! And less heavy.
@andrewr888r
@andrewr888r 5 лет назад
Stupid
@Izakokomarixyz
@Izakokomarixyz 5 лет назад
Also the diatonic accordion lends itself better to upbeat music than PA’s. The piano accordion is usually too big for dancing & playing, and the fact that it doesn’t require rapid bellow movement can make it sound more “droning” than a diatonic.
@JimCausleymusic
@JimCausleymusic 6 лет назад
Also this video is subtitled in English and yet you have no English accordion music on here! Diatonic accordions are called Melodeons in England and are the most popular instrument for folk music.

most of mexican music is used in three row accordion without bass reeds, which is why they dont use bass.
@EduardBekker

Tipically: the most used accordion for TexMex is a Hohner Corona: it has 12 bas reeds built in normally.
@johnathanriojas2530
@johnathanriojas2530 4 года назад
The buttons are there but the reeds inside the bass are removed. The accordion the kid is playing is called GABBANELLI. Hohner is a popular choice but if you want fancy you get an Italian made accordion. And they're many different types of Mexican music. It's called Regional Mexicana.
@EduardBekker
@EduardBekker 4 года назад
@@johnathanriojas2530 Thans for the information. But why are the reeds removed?
@johnathanriojas2530
@johnathanriojas2530 4 года назад
The reason is because the bajo sexto(quinto) and bass are playing the rythem and bass. Bajo sexto is a Mexican made guitar with the strings made to be thicker than a twelve string guitar. You're welcome btw. That's why the bass are no longer used. Well sometimes the older people play them. But not much anymore.
