Ah finally, back with another one. Been waiting for Ni. Tough to define but I think im finally getting the gist. Ni is a rightly adjusted scope! This could be a microscope, telescope, loop etc. Sure, every introverted function somewhat does this (the idea of zooming in) but Ni seems to try to perfect this. Notice, the items I mention require one thing: Closing your unpreferred eye to properly focus on your target effectively (the whole "tunnel vision" thing creeps up later on). Hence, it attempts to find the right vision and figure out the purpose, meaning and puzzle of what they are observing. The words "right" and "microscope" is key because they look at the target, and have different sets to zoom in a perspective. It does not mean they just blindly zoom and forget everything else. "Everything else" just lacks importance when they first observe those other things carefully or maybe look into it at a later time. Its only when they arent careful, incompetent, and inconsiderate of other views outside their methodical one that "tunnel vision" is a problem. In labs, there is thing called "controlled and uncontrolled variables" that u set before ur experiment to ensure u get proper results (controlled) and what may inadvertently affect your results (uncontrolled). So Ni and "pre-determined methodical view" holds true since they establish protocols of their vision and make sure everything is alignment with that. If it is (some Se fact out of nowhere), they consider it and if it isnt (some Se fact out of nowhere), they forget it. This is why Ni does have to be careful that it isnt too narrow to attain a particular result they acquire hence once again, understanding the "rightly adjusted scope" prevents them from doing so and loosens or tightens their focus accordingly. At an extreme error, Ni fails to see the things right in front of them (thats why a broader scope tool would be helpful). Standard deviation/uncertainty are also crucial to apply so that they dont get too swayed by a negligent error of a small piece of their vision they didnt want to happen.
@@sblort123 Symbolically, you are kind of close. Functionally, Ni is more of the "knowing" function. Ne: weighing the various possibilities of iceberg risk on the next voyage, and imagining what you would do if you were to see one while at the same time forgetting to pass off the keys to the crowsnest to the next lookout man. Ni: After finding a quiet place to read, a passenger overhears terse words between crew members coming from the stairs to the crowsnest. He heard something about missing keys. At first, he brushes it off, but then has an undeniable sinking feeling that something is terribly wrong. He immediately goes to tell the crew in charge of the life preserves to double check their duties, but he is laughed off. Ne: a different passenger sees the situation unfold and impersonates a safety auditor to motivate them to double-check the rafts. *nods to the Ni dude*
I love that this video is mostly audio with the words typed on the screen. I like a lot of your videos, but sometimes, images in the video distract from the message. I often listen to educational videos on RU-vid without looking at them in order to focus on what is being said. It's easier to focus on what is being said without visuals. This description really describes the way that I and other Ni dominant types usually are, especially when we aren't having to pretend to be like most other people in order to get along in some social situation. I do, indeed, prefer to think about things and/or observe things than to be physically or emotionally involved in them. The 'mystical dreamer and seer' that's me.
while its not technically the same thing, Ni IS best/most easily likened to deductive reasoning on STEROIDS - OR - looking at seemingly disparate aspects of any system and boiling it all down to THE ROOT or underlying basis upon which all of those emerging qualities stem from. ABSOLUTELY. FOR SURE. - INTJ
Yeah, the cool thing about Ni is that it can zoom all the way in to find the root, project that into the future and long term implications, if doesn't align with it's vision, it can zoom back out, course correct in the reality although this might be a different function and recursively do this until it attains its vision.
