Ex GF widowed husband was a mechanic for them at the local base. After he died, they came by her place for a few years after when they came into town for the airshow to pay their respects and see how she was doing. I really respected these guys after knowing that.
This past August when the Blues were in Billings Mt., on the second day of the show they flew for about 30+ minutes then just seemed to stop. I was watching from my backyard. Then about a half hour or so later they kind of resumed the show. I later found out another aircraft had to land at KBIL for a medical emergency in the middle of the airshow.
yo I went to both days but only the first half of the second day! Aimee "Rebel" Fiedler the f16 viper demo pilot had broken her retainer and it was bugging her so my dad who's a dentist fixed it and she gave my family free vip tickets and we got to meet her and watch her fly out to Chicago I believe for their next show she's super chill and my pfp is actually a picture my mom took of her f16 on the day we met her
I was standing on the 17th floor balcony of a condo on the ocean in Pensecola, FL one evening when the Blue Angels came screaming down the beach at eye level. They were so close I could see the patches on their flight suits. It seems every time they are out doing shows, they arrive home this route. My dad was USN in WWII on board a heavy cruiser in the Pacific. His ship, USS Louisville, "crossed the T" at Surigao Strait in October 1944. It was part of the last surface battle with battleships, heavy cruisers, etc. ever fought. Bo'sun Mate 2C Vernon G. Mathews Love you, Dad❤
Through my life, I've lived near a few Air Bases. I've Always called them "FlyBoys" 'They are Our Boys in Blue, Our Flying Young Men, They Fly to Protect our Skies. The Boys Fly to Protect Us, They're Our FlyBoys, and I'm Very Very Proud of Them!'
My cousin married a current blue angels pilot and man can he fly. He took me up in a tiny little turbo prop and scared the living hell out of me. Haven’t seen them since because they live way down south, but I’ll never forget that.
Totally chilling...that deep breath...the same thoughts a Great White Shark must be thinking as they circle in the depths eyeing a seal on the surface.
When I used to cut yards in Jacksonville, when the blue angels would do their practice runs,we'd get a free show a few days during the week..always loved the blue angels.and always took my.aon to see them from the time he was a little tike..lol
Heck, thats easy. Just enter 7500 into your transponder. That tells the military you are bored and want to fly in a formation. They will send fighters your way pretty quickly.
Watched the Angels do a show in Punta Gorda back in the 90's.We sat on our roof with lawn chairs. When they landed they were eye level to us. So Awesome!!
I remember being a kid and living on the Northeast side of Springfield Illinois and the Blue Angels headlined the Air Rendezvous air show they would fly so low you could see the pilot and would do the coolest stuff ever. Really amazing. Seeing them on video is not the same as hearing and seeing them fly by. Totally awesome.
You know, when he says "Scooter" at the start, I suspect that's Scott 'Scooter' Moyer he's talking to. A Retired Rear Admiral (according to the little I can find), Blue Angel No. 4, Tomcat RIO, and pilot in Top Gun. I remembered his name because one of the pictures I use as my computer wallpaper is him in his tomcat (in the front seat) with Cdr 'Wedge' Black in the RIO seat.
I used to love when the airshow would come to Pax river cause they would show up like a week or two before and practice. I'd just go sit in Walmart parking lot and get watch for free all week
Well generally speaking they do 60 shows a year but only practice late March through November on specifically Tuesday and Wednesdays so a total of 66 times max a year weather permitting but that aside 20 times they will practice on site at a air show a max of 46 times a year you could see them practice growing up there. So 20 years times 46 is 920 times. Now since even if someone makes it to 100 years old and never left that’s 4,600 times to see them……….. so you lack the ability to count to less than 5000?
You went thru all that to make a point about what? I was a kid. They flew a lot over the Naval Academy. I lived 10 minutes from there. That was 45 years ago. (Why am I even responding to this...?)@@waynewayne9693
When I was little we were watching the blue angels practice and one of thier moms came down the line selling merch. She stopped and talked to us for a bit then kept going. The next day at the air show I went bast the barriers they had and walked right up to the pilots to tell them I knew thier mom. When the air show finally tracked down my parents they found me hanging out with the blue angels in the hanger and I got a pretty cool picture out of it.
My experience is nothing compared to some but the Blue Angels flew over the 4th of July parade one year as a teen and i never forgot the absolute power i felt from them. I finally got to experience it a second time at another 4th parade and i made sure everybody i knew was there to experience it again with me . Nothing like the power of fighter jets. ❤
This is the kind of pilot I want if I’m on a plane that’s going down. Softly says, “ Ok. We’re easing off power so that when we crash, the impact will be less. This is your captain speaking and, again, thank you for flying with us.”
Got to see them as a little kid with my dad and just one of those memories that stays. The sound and just pure craziness as a kid not knowing something just clicks
The sound is different for the pulleys and the way they talk is short, simple to understand and most importantly non-confusing, there’s not much time at those speeds to repeat yourself. Blue Angles 👍🏼
During fleet week when I lived in the city, they would practice for a few days leading up to their performance and the boom as the passed my building shook the whole place, scared my cat of his mind! So fun to watch them messing around though in practice..
Lmao I didn't notice till I watched it back after seeing this comment. I thought you had to be exaggerating but no, he is definitely getting a taste for that mic😂
@@TurdFurgeson275There is a bold difference between being right up on the mic and LITERALLY STICKING IT IN YOUR MOUTH. Mics have come a long way, it doesn't have to be THAT close.. It's definitely just a peculiar personal preference...
@@JBeamGT3however, if you put it that close you don't have to yell into it to be heard and you can adjust it to sound pretty good as it does in the vid. This guy probably knows what he's doing and it probably has a reason whatever it is
It’s awesome living where I do. We have A-10’s training here all the time, the Thunderbirds every year, and the Blue Angels are usually within a two hour drive twice per year. Lots of fun stuff for aviation nerds.
Boss Dom graduated High School a few years ahead of me ..Hempfield Area in Greenaburg Pa..He came back to visit soon after getting his Naval Air wings..He went onto become becoming the Commander of the Angels near the end of his career.. A very interesting man indeed
@williamyanosko4010. Good stuff man. I'm a lifelong Pittsburgher, 36 years a Master Plumber. I went to Central Catholic 77'-81' Grew up in N. Oakland, like 2 blocks from old Pitt Stadium. I played Oakland Little League Baseball in 1972 with Dan Marino. That kid could bring it from the mound even at age 11. LOL. My freshman year at Central, he was a junior and just became our starting Q.B.
To anybody who fails to understand what’s happening here. When the blue angels fly they do dangerous maneuvers this the ATC handling the airspace with the blue angels needs to put up a “training airspace” this doesn’t exactly mean they are training. All a training airspace does is designate an airspace that aircraft must keep proper separation from both horizontally and virtically.
I was a U.S. Navy Avionics Tech and served from 89-93. We had a Blue Angels performance at NAS Alameda circa 92 and one of their "new" F-18's had a mechanical problem and needed parts, so they had to park their bird in our hangar. I happened to have the watch that night and I looked over every inch of that beautiful beast for hours. It was tiny compared to our Sky Train... VR-55.
He's the boss, they use a certain cadence when flying in formation. It's been a standard for decades. You can't see them, but there are likely 2 other jets within inches of his aircraft.
We grew up watching the blue angels fly over the Selfridge Air Force base and the Oscoda Air Force base, In michigan. Now I live in the thumb of Michigan and we see fighter jets come over once a month practicing their formations out in the country where I live in the heart of the agriculture area. Sometimes they fly just above the turbines. You can count the bolts on the bottom of the plane as it flys over. There were fighter jets that used to fly back and forth the cross of park in Oklahoma by the Coors beer company. You could clearly see the pilot in the cockpit. Dell city is where we watched Reagan land on a private airstrip behind General motors assembly division, It was the first a Wack plane.
When I was a kid, the blue Angels were at an airshow. They were intercepted by enemies fighters. They had no ammunition, and they maneuvered so well that the enemies could not touch them. I don’t know if this was a true story, but I do know it was told to me when I was a kid. Back in 1980s.
Enemy fighters in United States airspace without getting intercepted by combat fighters and engaging unarmed craft would be a hell of an event, and the headlines of those unarmed craft dodging everything and coming out unharmed would be insane. I get zero search results for it. I think you were lied to
I live about a mile from Oceana. Whenever these guys are in town for a show I sit on my roof watching. They fly so low sometimes I am certain you could toss them a football. 😂 For that matter almost every day of the year Navy jets pass over on approach to land, if you don’t love jet noise from fighter aircraft do not move to Virginia Beach.
I must be the only person on earth who really isn’t all that impressed w this type of thing. Prob because of where I live and I’ve seen them fly overhead a million ten times.
My nephew worked in Boeing’s art department and designed the Blue Angel’s helmets one year. He used to go to their air base and met a bunch of them. Said they were really cool guys. They wanted to take him up but he is 6’4, 300 lbs. only one leg fit in the cockpit.
My dad was an Air Force Pilot. Once after getting my 3rd speeding ticket as a teenager, he said why do you feel the need to go so fast? I said I'm just like you! You had to take to the skies to go even faster! He flew f16's.
