I think of the intrusive thoughts as awake dreams. Kind of like how our dreams really don’t make sense and are very disturbing at times.

That’s a great analogy. We’re not responsible for the content of either.

Everything I experience I attribute to my nerve endings being completely exposed until my body is able to "paint" over them by itself. I had intrusive thoughts for a long time. Every day for months. Then they went away. They came back recently for a day or two. Now they're gone again. I can't (won't) describe the thoughts I had. They were VERY frightening. As usual Dan, great video. Thank you. My thoughts on the verbalization are that if you did accidently say the intrusive thoughts out loud, you would be institutionalized. That was my worry. I kept worrying about being at the mercy of the law or the psych doctors or both. I do know one thing that everyone can relate to who've been damaged by these drugs. I wish I had never taken them. They have wrecked me. For now.

Yes. You’re exactly right that’s why we need to exercise prudence and caution is we decide to talk with someone.

Thinking takes effort, thoughts randomly pop into our heads and we don't have control over those. This is something I experience and is very difficult. intrusive thoughts, urges, images and commands are all common. Acceptance is not the same as agreeing with it.

Thank you. Too much focusing of my thoughts of feeling the physical & mental pain, intrusive thoughts are more in my reality because of the suffering, those thoughts are lies. Its so impossible to bring out the real me when the pain & suffering is there. Then on those seldom days of windows without pain my thoughts turns around with confidence & positivity, My thinking changes when there's no pain & suffering. Anything becomes possible. Then the real me comes out.

This is so true for us. And once these waves stop your true self is more resilient, grateful, stronger, and more powerful than it was before. Keep going, keep going, keep going. This won’t defeat you. You are more powerful than this.

Unfortunately, I had severe OCD before escitalopram withdrawal and now my intrusive thoughts are 1000x worse, hopefully they will ease off. Thank you for covering a theme few people know about and I admire your fighting spirit and honesty.

I ended up with an OCD diagnosis due to intrusive thoughts I experienced after a CT/rapid taper of multiple drugs. Eventually, the specialist I saw came to the conclusion that I didn't have OCD. I don't think I even knew what intrusive thoughts were before that. Too bad no one recognized that I was in acute withdrawal. Instead, they just put me on Lexapro.

@joannegallegos1433 unfortunately, I didn't understand what was happening to me. Yet. If I had, or if anyone had, it could have saved me another decade of being on this roller coaster. I don't think I even knew about intrusive thoughts until they happened to me and at that time, I still believed in the medical model.

What about rapid non-stop rapid intrusive thoughts about anything. Bad or good... Thoughts just not stopping?? All day.. every day?

I’ve had this for 14 months constant now, no breaks. Never had them prior to my adverse reaction/drug injury. I just keep telling myself that they will lessen and go away eventually.

@@ashleychristie5023 it's unreal.. I also have dp/dr non-stop for 17 months as well as the thought stuff you also have and I'm nowhere near done getting off. My mind grabs onto anything like glue. Hard to explain. If u would like to chat let me know. I need a support buddy. I'm in Pennsylvania... I'm minute to minute for all these months. For me, it's 95% mental anguish constantly. U just keep telling yourself it will get better in time? Anything else that u do? Also, everything I see turns into a weird type of thinking. I dunno... So hard. I'm overthinking..... Sometimes I wonder if when Im thinking are these even my thoughts... Confusion is a big thing for me too... Can u relate to any of this kinda stuff? Ty
@ashleychristie5023
@ashleychristie5023 4 месяца назад
Yes I’ve had all of that for 14 months. I’ve also been off meds for 14 months, so at least you know it’s because you’re tapering. I get worried that this far off it’s just how my brain is stuck since I don’t get any windows yet, but I just try to tell myself that it has to go eventually. The poison that caused it has been out of my system for a long time now, and my brain/body are constantly healing. So I’m just waiting for the healing to build up to a place where I actually start feeling it. I wish I had more to offer, sorry.
