Intuitive Machines' IM-1 mission will return the United States to the lunar surface with the Texas-based company's Nova-C lunar lander.
Nova-C will be the first U.S. vehicle to softly land on the lunar surface since 1972. Powered by our VR900 liquid methane/oxygen engine, and replete with innovative avionics for advanced guidance, navigation and control, IM-1 is capable of carrying 130kg of cargo and will ferry numerous NASA and commercial payloads to the lunar surface in 2022.

Thank you, Intuitive Machines! I've been waiting about 50 years for this. IMO we should've been teleoperating a permanent robotic moon base since Apollo 12 or at least 16. Yes, the robots we had back then would be slow and crude, and require occasional resupply mission for upgrades and replacements, but imagine what we could've built over the course of a half century.

For all of you who will be seeing this after the buzz swirls in the news.... Falcon 9 will launch and release this outside our atmosphere. Then NOVA C will direct itself to the moon. They have 2 more launches per their contract for 2024. Subsequent launches will be for their bigger new nova d lander in 2025 and beyond. This is part of nasa CLPS program in which companies bid for certain contracts to launch/send stuff to moon to begin the colonization and settlement. They trade under the stock name LUNR. Intuitive machines goal is to set up an *information highway* to help spur future journeys to the moon among other things. Their executive management includes former NASA engineers and scientists. The purpose of this mission is pretty much to test their tech/equipment to guide further launches. The lander is suppoed to live for about 2 weeks before the cold breaks it down. Future landers are being designed to negate this. Each landing on the moon or launch to orbit will generate $100+ million in revenue or as defined in the contracts. Their next lander will be NoVA D- bigger, able to sustain itself longer and offer more services Their 3rd lander in concept still- will be very very big. NOVA-M.

Shivers!! Just a few hours after launch, looks like it’s going well. Congrats!! Looking forward hearing of the landers first burn. Would like to know more about the trajectory etc. Like did the Falcon 2nd stage provide nearly all of the momentum for the journey to the moon? Or does the IM lander add to that significantly? Also, what happens to the Falcon 2nd stage? Is it also on the way to the moon.

I see the beginnings of a great company right here. Can't wait to see it unfold. There will be challenges along the way I am sure. But I believe that things are going to happen with this company. This company is getting us back to the moon quickly. After dealing with Covid for the past 2 years, this is pretty exciting stuff!!! It looks like this company has the right mindset to get us back to the moon and stay there and build.

@@kevinh891Nova-C has a camera device named EagleCAM which will be dropped out before landing, and this camera will record a video of Nova-C landing on the Moon. The video will not be sent to Earth in realtime as that would need a large amount of power, but it will sent to Earth afterwards, we will see the footage later. None of these landers send videos in realtime, as they need to minimize the total mass of the lander (to rocket cannot accelerate too much mass to the needed speed), the lander cannot carry heavy batteries, and the positioning of the lander needs all the electric power, they need to be efficient with power.

Your lander reminds me of my first Mun lander in KSP. It also had six legs. It tended to bounce around a little when it hit the surface, and would tip over a lot. I hope your design is better than mine. Good luck! I'll be watching.

Ok, first mission is a year behind schedule. I don't know if that is due to the spacecraft/lander, rocket launch scheduling delay, payload delay in development/production or some other issue. Is everything ready to go for a launch in the first half of 2023? This will be the first American landing of any type on the moon since 1976 and there is almost not even a peep in the media. Not to mention that there is very little out there about this lander. Astonishing....a few months away from putting and American lander on the moon and no one is talking about it.

Good luck landing a small unmanned vehicle on the moon surface 50 years after we (supposedly) did exactly the same thing but with landers many more times bigger, with humans and extra vehicular payloads in shape of a moon buggy. Not once but on multiple occasions. All with digital watch level technology. It makes perfect sense that we should find it so difficult with much more advanced tech and knowhow. Logical we should of failed as a species to successfully land way more unmanned technologically superior landers on multiple occasions. Not to put too fine a point on it we’ve been bullshitted to on an astronomical level for decades and now 50 yrs on space agencies look like re-t-arded compulsive pinnochio’s.
