I enjoy your narrative, and passionate about Impressionism, and Intuitive painting. At 54, I am learning the rules at the same time as I am learning how to break the. I have to just cycle through, and letting my sensibilities and heart serve as guides. Not to mention the innumerable Art People, on all levels, who I have been learning from. I only wish your cam was zoomed too far out for me to watch you paint very much. The Stabilo pencil is still on my art journaling must-haves list, will pick one up soon. I bought loads of watercolor paper, Artist grade. I am now into painting on industry standard quality papers, but as I sat here worked 15 mins on a journal page that has printer paper in it. There is no way I can approach the exercise feeling like it's going to be a good painting. Sorry for the book, I started typing and got carried away. I hope your cam is closer. Will look at more of your videos. Thanks!

Your video was a suggestion by RU-vid but what synchronicity! My degree is also in illustration and I've just finished a five week intuitive painting course with Flora Bowley. Like you I'm used to having everything planned for a painting but I'm loving the freedom of intuitive painting. I also loved your video.

I could not believe you hadn't done a video before this! Well done! I became totally engrossed and the end result is fantastic. I love your commentary, it is SO informative - having you explain about balance and composition is really helpful to someone like me who is learning about art as a mature beginner. My daughter thinks I am strange because I can 'see' faces and forms ( mainly faces ) in almost anything lol. Working my way through your videos and enjoying every inspirational moment. Many thanks x

I would love to see your answers to Beverley Clark White's questions as well (for some reason I can't see them in the comments). No criticism here either, as someone brand new to the art world (at 57!) I am a sponge for new information, and would like desperately to understand, as well. I have been a science and math lover my whole life, and really struggle with not overthinking everything to death to the point of getting nothing done. I understand that this is your first video, fantastic job! As well, you are an excellent teacher and so very pleasant to listen to. New subscriber here!

Hello, Ivy. I have recently found your beautiful art, via the classroom at Awsome Art School with @karencampbell. It was actually the encaustics lessons, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I appreciate that this is 4 years ago but wanted to see what else you do. This particular piece is wonderful, so clever to seek out 'the story' or 'journey' of the piece, as you go. Intuitive indeed! I think I struggle with this, however I am slowly trying to "go with it". The perfectionist in me wants it to all be decided and yes ~ perfect. Lol. Letting go is not easy; in art or life in general. Or is that only me? I'm sure it isn't. Anyway, I digress..... Your girl with her doggy companion is gorgeous. I see a free spirit who is perhaps a little shy? Thank you for sharing your experience, tips, knowledge and skills. I shall definitely be back (need to watch the encaustic tutorials in their entirety). Ty. C😊🐾

I just wanted to add a little something about the Stabilo. I have retired after 35 years as a airbrush artist and signpainter. The Stabilo is a main stay tool for a signpainter. It comes in red blue white and black and I think maybe yellow. Yes it writes on anything and unlike a greese pencil you can paint an oil base paint over it and it doesn't show. We used it for layouts when your only going to need one layout. Otherwise you would make a pattern. There are a lot triks of the trade that I bring with me to my fine art. Since it is water soluable I would be careful painting a water base paint over it . it would tend to bleed.

Ivy, I have a question, and I am not trying to "make fun" of all this painting over things you put on first, but what is the purpose of doing this....the "blank canvas needing to be covered" seems a little bit trivial to me... I really don't see WHY do this and then paint over it......if you see something of what you put down first, I get that, but covering over the whole thing is very confusing to me....I'm not, REALLY NOT, making fun, I just want to UNDERSTAND.... Bev White OK, still listening to you talk.....you said you are just now starting to paint this way....please help me to understand your "feelings", I am not understanding.....that "flower" shape makes me think of the "complete man" (?) that da vinci painted (might not be the correct name of the "man".....THANKS!!!
@beverley-memawmawclarkwhit5102
Ivy, yes, this helps me understand...thanks, allot....by the way...I just purchased an old journal to use as an art journal (been wanting one for a long time, but when I watched your videos I just had to get one), and was wondering if you tape each page that you don't glue together with the gaff tape at the spine??? do you use the clear gesso on each page, or maybe white gesso, also??? bev white
