What do you think of Inuyasha? On a positive note, the game you've been seeing throughout this video is Inuyasha Feudal Combat for the Playstation 2, released in 2005. It's an arena brawler that tells a very abridged version of the story through multiple character-specific chapters, each of which lasts anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour. With simple controls, destructible environments, and the option to fight with or against your friends in local vs mode, it's a game that fans of the series can have a really good time with.

Thank You! I'm glad I'm not the only one that every time Koga appeared thought hey there's that guy that massacred an entire village that you can't seem to care about.

It was baffling that they never went back to it, like this dude presumably killed at least 100 adults and children just in the one segment we say.

I didn't expect an anime rant but I like it when people don't let themselves be pigeonholed. Haven't seen the show itself but know of it. Let me guess, Koga has a 'redemption arc,' because that section on him totally sounds like poorly written 'redeemable' villain behavior. I'm also guessing the beads are probably a Journey to the West nod, but from how you're describing it sounds like it turned into a borderline abusive relationship. It's disappointing when things go down in quality after you loved their start.

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Expanding into Pokemon did me well when I was exclusively a fighting game channel, so this seemed like a fun experiment. Honestly, I don't know what happens to Koga other than that he doesn't end up with Kagome. Every time he came on screen after like episode 50, I skipped ahead until he was gone.

Theres a point where it seemed like the writers realized they could milk the success of Inuyasha and so they started making random love triangle things (beyond the love triangle that already exists!), and also making Inuyasha randomly decide not to use his strong moves until he or someone else is injured/in danger. Pretty annoying, but I wonder how the people who watched it while it aired felt.

Yeah I absolutely felt that milking and random stupid nonsense.

I completely agree with this! Reminds me of a conversation I had with a friend long ago. When I explained to them why I hated this show. They like myself also liked Sailor Moon and I used it as an example. Imagine If Usagi was always a narrow-minded, mean-spirited, airhead all the time. Was Insufferable to all the scouts who are always trying to save her. There were Mutable Tuxedo mask, each one more insufferable then the last. No matter how many pieces of the imperial Moon crystal they collected, they were always that far away from completing it. No matter what awesome powers the Scouts gained, Queen Baryl was always seven steps ahead of them. Thorough the whole series Queen Beryl never takes a loss and it is she not the hero's that kills each one of the 4 heavenly knights. Sometimes unceremoniously and needlessly so. Worse yet Usagi is from a future timeline where she lives in a world with no heavenly knights and no Queen Beryl, rendering Beryls goals Moot because we already know she loses. Worse yet, Usagi can come and go too and from that future timeline whenever she pleases. Making her more a Disconnected tourist then anything. What would be the point is caring for her or any of the scouts at that point.

Kagome being so dickblind for Koga is the only reason why she would let him get away with his crimes.

The lack of any character development in this series is what inevitably made me absolutely detest this anime.

Honestly! It feels like everyone's the same as the episode they first met them outside of the moments they HAVE to be different, then they go right back to status-quo.

@@GohLow It's a product of how anime was made at the time and how they stretching out an adaptation of a ongoing manga onto a long-running show. A lot of the anime and manga from the time were written with the idea that viewers and readers would be hopping on and off them, so they did their best to keep character "familiar" and somewhat static. Even though it was made near the tail end of that practice, Inu-Yasha still retains all the hallmarks of it.

Welcome to old shounen anime that milks the audience with not much happening each episode. But yeah, I hate it too.

I’ve never really watched any anime except Pokemon and sailor moon. It sounds like Inuyasha started well, then they wanted to keep it going and going and going because it was making money, but they either didn’t know how or didn’t want to risk allowing major plot developments that might shake up the formula. By the way, are many of the episodes watchable as a one off, or do they really need to be watched in order? I feel like pre-Netflix there would have been an expectation that audiences might only watch occasional episodes when they happened to turn the tv on at the right time on the right channel, and they just needed to serve up something similar for half an hour rather than a strong thread that could get confusing if you miss an episode
@GohLow
@GohLow 9 месяцев назад
You needed to watch most of the episodes if you wanted to keep on track, which made the poor payoffs even more frustrating.

I wonder if the sit boy thing is a culture barrier. In East Asia, so many things are influenced by Buddhism and Taoism. Fantasy stories are filled with god-like and demon-like characters (more like people who reincarnate into different "classes" depending on their Karma, very different from classic Western concept of God and demon). Inuyasha is a half demon/monster, his "class" is lower than humans, not to mention a priestess who represents cleanliness. The sit boy thing to me represents a holy power taking a chaotic, animal-like power under control, rather than normal interaction between two people who are equal. ( There’re similar relationships in the classic Chinese fantasy, Journey to the West.) But why the two can also be in a romantic relationship is another debate itself🤣🤣🤣

@GohLow 9 месяцев назад
Huh, I never looked at it that way. I could totally see that being the case. If they had really expressed that, I probably wouldn't have had much of an issue with it. To me, they always came across as being on equal standings with none of that cultural context.

Inuyasha is a 3/10 or 4/10. The following are the biggest issues with the story IMO: 1_ Bad World Building. The story is set in Fudeual Japan but the cast barely interacts with the locals. The world is underdeveloped and the same settings are reused: forest, small village, fort/castle. If a story is set in a historical period then the author must do historical research and write in historical characters or events or places. The writer must have a passion for history; an example is Araki. The other alternative was to do a reverse isekai and bring Inuyasha into the modern era and scrap feudal Japan. Ironically most of the fan favorite episodes were set in modern Japan. 2_ Bad Fights. Inuyasha is a bad Guts and every fight ends with him swinging this big sword. Additionally the show has the typical problem of the side characters not being strong enough and the main character needing to win every battle. 3_ Bad Cast. Sango, Shippo, Monk are all 1D. Inuyasha, Kagome, and Sesshomaru are 2D at best. Naruku is boring and his minions are too. Inuyasha's and Kagome's relationship should have developed rather than being stuck at the same phase until the end of the story. 4_ Bad Pacing. So many episodes are monster of the week filler and the main plot usually ends in the bad guys escaping. I agree that that the pacing becomes awful when Koga is introduced. She should have written him into a character development arc and that ended with Koga dying or something rather than dragging out the love triangle until the end of the show. Likewise with Sango's brother arc. The mangaka doesn't resolve character arcs, she drags them out. The lack of clear arcs is a huge reason why the pacing is bad. She was used to writing episodic content so she didn't know how to write a solid story. I could go on. Inuyasha is better than Sailor Moon but worse than even Bleach.

For an anime that wanted so heavily to be rooted in romance, it really is pathetic how flat Inuyasha and Kagome's relationship stays. They were still doing "But do they ACTUALLY like each other like that" well past the point of rationality.
@Adam-jr4lx
@Adam-jr4lx 9 месяцев назад
If Takahashi properly paced the manga then around 1/4th of the way into the story they would have become a couple but she wrote is like a romantic comedy so them getting together would be saved until the end. @@GohLow
