Invacars (Mk12 and Model 70) invaded the HubNut Social at ‪@theclassicmotorhub239‬ near Cirencester, plus a special appearance by an old friend! Yes, Foxanne the Reliant Fox was there, alongside Betty the AU Fairmont. We had a wonderful mix of cars, so thanks to everyone who came. I suspect we'll be returning to this site so watch this space.
Delightful HubNut goodies can be purchased at hubnut.org

It was us in the Corsa so thanks for the mention. It was a great event but sadly had another appointment so had to leave early. The good news today is that my son passed his theory test. One step closer to him taking ownership of the Corsa.

An enjoyable day out for us at an excellent venue. Such a nice mix of cars both old and young. We caught up with and followed the early J plate invacar for a while when we left the event. It was nice to meet you again Ian and to meet Carly for the first time. My grandson was extremely pleased to have met and spoken to mini- HubNut. Thanks for organising the event. Hopefully we will be able to attend the next social whenever and wherever that maybe

oooh the trabbie, when I was rebuilding East Germany in 1990 it was littered with abandoned trabbies from the East Germans fleeing to the West when the wall came down. We picked one each and used them as daily transport, repairing and improving them incase their owners ever returned but they didn't and we left them there in pristine condition after our 3 year stint. Great little cars.

Ten years on you still could exchange a decent one for a crate of beer, then they slowly started to increase in value. They're still fairly affordable classics compared to e.g. 2CVs.

I took my Son up for our first Hubnut social in the green E46 Touring with rusty wings, it normally does a 4 mile commute and tip runs etc but did the 340 mile round trip averaging 58.3mpg which I thought was pretty good, we can be seen early in the video chatting to the lovely couple with the brown Astra Estate 1.6 8 valve, a great car and thoroughly enjoyed talking with them, all in all a very social social and a great day out.

On the same day, about 7 hours behind you, I was volunteering to help with my club's local car show, the All-Ford show, in Hillsboro, Oregon USA. We had a small contention of Fords from the other side of the pond at ours, including a Ford Anglia, several Cortinas, and a few Capris ( not super uncommon here, as the Capri was sold as the Mercury Capri here from the mid 1970's until 1979, when the new Mercury Capri became a re-badged Foxbody Ford Mustang with a unique bubble back hatch). Also, a Mark I Escort set up as a rally car, in RHD 😊

@@HubNut if you're passing by my way you're welcome to experience it. There are certain speeds and revs that resonate, when cruising at 30 to 40 mph its fairly calm, accelerating up to those speeds and cruising at 45-47 mph it gets a little noisy. I have pushed 51mph but that is uncomfortable for the engine and myself.

I also used to own the original Wagon R + it was a 1.3 litre 85bhp fast in a straight line but very Robin reliant in the corners regularly broke track rods as the strain in corners due to that raised ride height was too much lol And the fuel filler cap leaked which resulted in a fire at a petrol station once in High Wycombe , thankfully it did not set the whole station ablaze lol , Only paid £300 for it so was a bargain in 2014

Ben's already beaten me to it on the 197cc correction, so ill up the pedantry :) to point out that even the Invacar Mk12E that Brian KPU147J is, has AC influence in that the front suspension is of the AC designed Model 70 Parallelogram leading arm setup, the Ministry liked what it saw from the then still in development Model 70, and forced it through onto all Villiers and Electric machines (bar the Tippen Delta) if you had a closer look you will have seen the same front suspension as seen on VJN and TWC, and even the same Spax adjustable coil-over :) although otherwise indeed the Invacar Mk12 in general was Invacar's last homegrown effort, and it is really awesome to see you get to have a quick look around Brian! I wish that segment was longer! I still want to see that full hubnut review!

It took a little while to find the venue as my car satnav just took me to Cirencester, fortunately I'd Googled the location so I knew it was wrong, My phone guided me the rest of the way. so all good in the end. A great day out Ian, all very friendly and great to talk to people who I'd never met before including the new owner who adopted Foxanne who I rattled on about motorbikes of the 1980's (sorry), I didn't catch his name. I'm terrible with names. It was also great to talk to Carly and your good self in 3D as opposed to seeing 2D versions on RU-vid. A huge thanks for arranging this and I think this could be the very 1st time my car has been filmed on YT, it's not a classic by some margin but would fit right in with the Festival of the Unexceptional. And I now have a 'Triangle of Doom' T-shirt that fits me better than my other HubNut T-shirts since I seem to have inflated over the years.

The controls on Invacars varied to some degree according to the disability of the person given to, left or right arm controls or even foot pedals if the person was one legged and one armed. Don't think they ever made one for someone with no arms, that would have been ingenious to say the least. A lot of recipients were Thalidomide victims. Most with missing or damaged limbs opted for the conversion grant for a car as not banned from Motorways or restricted to 30 MPH.

Nothing weird about the Smart with a towing contraption, it's likely there because it was flat towed behind a motorhome. That's a pretty common sight in this part of the world. Hehe - that older version of the Invacar looks like something you would find in the eastern European childrens puppet shows that Swedish television was so keen on showing back when I grew up in the 70s 😅 (Sweden was a very, very "red" country back then...) I do love the colour and shape of the 928 - top notch 1970s design right there and the more modern wheels does not make it look and less gorgeous! And don't be afraid to do a real road test of a BMW i3 - very nice! The only reason I'm not getting myself one of those at some point is that I just can not see myself owning a BMW, since most other BMWs are owned by people I frankly don't care for - at all... (but I am having a collection caper of another EV-pioneer this friday which incidentely will make me a 2-car owner - you are having a bad influence on me! - the Modus will enjoy the luxury of being my enthusiast car, while it's younger sister will do all the comuting...)
