Bro, nowadays out going calls are getting cheaper than data plans. Plus, such phones could last for weeks on a single charge. So this is really a brilliant way to remind you to keep your clothes when it rains
In our school science fair (back in late 90s) someone made a similar thing, but a motor to bring the cloths line inside the home through a window. It was a model though. The sensor was same, but a single transistor and a relay switch to control it all.
I suggest that he put an umbrella over his clothes so that the rain does not get on them, and he can see the weather. When he does this, he does not need any failed inventions.

@@vaisakhkm783 it’s cool that he can explore his creative side, but there’s most likely a more practical device he could’ve made. Or, just look out of a window. And to answer your question: No actually, I saw the thumbnail and I wanted to see what it was about.
@@143fluffypancakes Yeah for real, this seems like a massive waste. I too clicked the video thinking it would be some cool dIY project for an old phone…until he did all that only to put the phone in the rain as an early warning. So dumb.
@@143fluffypancakes weather apps don't predict local rains and it is not very accurate. And he couldn't look out of the window, because he was sleeping. We should learn to appreciate innovations though it is not very useful in day to day life.
Step 1: Get an old phone that already may not, or will soon not, actually be able to get on the mobile network. Step 2: Pay for a SIM card for it, probably a monthly bill. Step 3: Modify it with 90% of the parts you'd need to make a rain detector from scratch, anyway. Step 4: Realise you now have to regularly open the jar up and recharge the battery to keep it working, because you didn't build in any kind of solar power or at least external charging. Step 5: head to your local electronics store and just get a friggin Arduino or ESP32 and just do this by wifi... Or just buy any of a thousand premade rainfall detectors available on the market. Most of which can actually measure the rainfall, not just say SKY WATER FALL DOWN! SKY WATER FALL DOWN!
There are significantly better ways to get a similiar result... Using a phone for this is pretty much a waste. You need a simcard that you pay monthly, Battery requires constant recharging(although solvable, stilll not great.) Unnecessary large. If you really have no other choice its great, but for around 5$ you could make a similiar device..
Is the ringing counted out of the communication? Over there it's 2 minutes and 22 seconds per USD. If a ringing in the void is 10 seconds (hoping it doesn't sleep on the message recorder for 4 hours till automatic cut) then it's 14 ringing/rain alert per USD
@@hyperturbotechnomike You mean that you don't pay the same price on ring time and local communication time? That gives something like 12 minutes per USD on ring time? That's 6 times cheaper than my pre-paid plan
@@zXHAcKeRzXz EU wide calls are five to seven cents per minute and 20 cents per call connection fee. International calls cost around 7-20 cents per minute, depending on the country. Outside of the EU, it get's expensive because of roaming. Data is 5€ for 5GB. I use Lebara as provider. They also have contracts, but i don't really use my mobile phone very often. I charge it maybe once or twice for 20€ per year.
people ragging on this without considering the possibilities... example: swap out the water sensor for a CO sensor (and/or other dangerous gasses), set it to autodial 911 when dangerous levels detected.
My dude, you should have just put the laundry out for all this time while he was building this thing, and it would've been dry and inside before the rain came, and he'd still be asleep chillin! Lol
Dear friend ..... Basically, I am an Electrical Engineer. I really appreciate you for this small & useful invention .... What is that black item which you used in your circuit ? Can you pls write the name of it ? Is there any polarities like + / - in it ? Regards Anandakumar Coimbatore
