Jerry, by you having your Low pass filter @ 40Hz, it was def. limiting freq. below that. I have seen output reduced, even 20hz below, a Low pass filter. When i had tested my output @ 60Hz, with my Low pass set to 80Hz, it lost a few tenths, vs my Lowpass set @ 100Hz. With your front port tuned between 40 and 45Hz, i would try a Lowpass filter between 60Hz, and 100Hz. Test your output @ 50Hz, and 60Hz, on like vol. 25, see what your Db is with your Lowpass set to 60Hz, then try LPF set to 70Hz, ✔ Db again @ 50Hz, and 60Hz, then set LPF to 80Hz, ✔ Db again @ 50Hz, and 60Hz, then Lastly set your LPF to 100Hz, ✔ Db again @ 50Hz, and 60Hz, you prob. will be surprised, and prob. will gain some bandwidth!? Thanks for taking your time to make these video's, Jerry. Also big shout out to all of your Team, and your Woman, for all of there help❤️
Im tryin to figure mathmatics to shrink my box. Im not a 6th build im just not tryin to pay for a new enclosure lol. Its amazing how big of a gain just a couple tenths of a db is in car audio. Glad to see Billy out there doin bass games with you guys. Thanks Jerry💪💪
Nice job Jerry glad to hear you got the front part tune where you like it. An yes I read the same thing about turning the front to 44hz . For across the board .
Jerry, honestly it would look sick if you had the air subs magnet up. But I know that's a lot of work and you already got it all in there but just saying. Either way, I definitely enjoy your videos bro.
Yeah Bobby knows he stuff, mine is the whole opposite back two subs by the port would unload with any window down cracked etc Bobby told me to shrink my front port, and it's a pain to pull out 8, 70 lb subs crawling inside the wall 😂 😂
From experience having half the suns magnet in and the other half magnet out changing them to all magnets in has a gain in db and performance. I’ve never had any build louder and more violent with all magnets out. Magnets in ftw!
You tune to what you like and not what the manufacture recommends? And for the air space, you have a 1:1 ratio? So you split the rear cabin to accommodate the box and not worry to much on manufacture recommendations?
If I'm being honest...I'm neutral. I do like the inverted look if the motor and basket are unique...example is Debs WFO's. I am also partial to the traditional mount so i can see that cone and surround put in work...lol. Anyhow, good sh*t JAL!
I thinking about doing 6 DS18 Zxi 15s in my Jeep liberty. In a 6th. They only call for around 2.8 each. And I have around 40-45 cubes to play with. Watching your build with the 6 15s makes me wonder if I actually have room for 6 in stead of 4
They do awesome one of my buddies has 6 12s in his PT cruiser on 2 smart 3k and is doing a 150 at 30hz. It does hair tricks and floats stuff with both front windows open. The exl xxb/HE and those are my favorite ds18 subs
The front port tuning should work like any other port, it's a Helmholtz resonator. The area and length is calculated just like any ported box. The key here is to tune it high and with a large enough port area to not choke, or reduce the efficiency of the rear port. Its really advanced math and better modeled on a computer. A modeling program can tell you theoretically what port size you need to achieve a certain tuning frequency, but ultimately you need to experiment to see what works best for you.
Why do they turn theyre subs upside sown is because in a 4th order box its essentially ahuge asss speaker box and with the port pointed toward you where all that air comes out plus tha beat its baddass fr hopefully me and jerry can hang and do each other a demo or som....
Hell yea lvl is a great way to to build your port yea its heavy and aint doing your vehich any justice but yea lvl aka( laminated beam material and gonna flex with that lil span
Remember than in a series tuned 6th order the low frequencies from the rear ports have to travel through the front port. I can't say for sure why he gained 1 dB at 20Hz, but it might be from the larger front port opening. My theory is the front port being small reduced the efficiency of the rear ports. It was kinda "choking" them. Now those rear ports are breathing a bit better, more efficient.
