Tulare Lake was once California's largest lake and the largest lake west of the Mississippi River. Today, that lake is gone. But what happened? Join us on an unforgettable journey as we uncover the hidden history of California's once magnificent Tulare Lake. Tulare Lake was a breathtaking natural wonder spanning over 600 square miles. However, over the years, it fell victim to human intervention, transforming from a thriving ecosystem into a barren land used for agriculture and crops.
In this video, we delve deep into the story of Tulare Lake, exploring its ecological significance, cultural impact, and the controversial decisions that led to its demise. Learn about the ambitious water projects, including the construction of levees and canals, orchestrated by influential figures like J.G. Boswell, which forever altered the landscape of the Central Valley.
Discover the repercussions of Tulare Lake's drainage on local communities, wildlife habitats, and the delicate balance of California's water systems. From the struggles of environmental preservation to the complexities of water management, this narrative sheds light on the enduring legacy of human intervention in nature.

I moved to California 20 years ago, and I love nearly everything about it. However, it frustrates me that the state leadership only yells at private individuals who use water for plants or lawns or other tiny little patches of life. The farmers use over 90% of all water in California, but I don't hear a peep about them.

Here is the bottom line. Flood plains. If these people would have been observant, the geographic composition is different from place to place. The lake in California and areas around the Mississippi river are flood plains. This means that if there is an access of water, those plains naturally flood. And there is nothing anybody can do about it. Nature has its own economy as to how land is managed. Nature manages its own land. I find it interesting that when Lewis and Clark returned to Washington D.C and gave their report on the Western territories they said, "The West cannon support life the way it does here in the East." And over time, this has proven to be true. You can live in the West, but the East coast and West coast support life differently.

Well said. Never knew lewis and clark said that. Thanks for the new fact!

Being in harmony with nature and allowing Tulare lake to rests lush wetlands vs having farmland to grow food supply we need! Difficult choices and no easy solution.

Why did you show a dinosaur in the frame when mentioning 600,000 years ago? Perhaps a few million years off there lol

Those who want the lake to return are woefully misled and ignorant. What was once a wet swampland is now a home to many (including myself). This land provides businessmen with opportunities, families with livelihoods, and millions of other people throughout the world with necessities. I don't see a damn thing "foolish" about any of that. Also, it's pronounced too-LAIR-ee and Kings County (with an "s").

Maybe foolish wasn’t the right choice of words. That being said I think there are pros and cons to the lake not being there anymore. The amount of money and jobs this area has created can’t be understated
