New subscriber here- super stoked i found your channel. You're adorable and hilarious and even more so because you don't seem to realize either of those things. Looking forward to your future content- thumbs-up emoji
We would fish there in the early 60's. It always seemed to be very windy like you were on a sea. It smelled salty and stinky with hundreds of dead fish washed up on shore. I always enjoyed those trips. Lots to see and do. Very pretty and strange. A literal ocean in the middle of this huge desert made it different.
I live and grew up out here. We ARE MOST DEFINITELY NOT POOR LOST SOULS LIVING IN DEPLORABLE CONDITIONS. If that's the case then all LOS ANGELES RESIDENTS ARE HOMELESS DRUG ADDICTS LIVING IN CARDBOARD BOXES . ALL PEOPLE IN THE SAN FRANCISCO AREA ARE AIDS STRICKEN DRUG ADDICTED THIEVES. We have an Elementary and a High School. In Salton City, go and ask the students if their homes, schools, and community is GOD FORSAKEN, Deplorable or PITIFUL. THANK YOU FOR NOT REHASHING ON THE USUAL ITEMS FEATURED IN OTHER SO CALLWD EXPOSES.
Went there in August once... ONCE! It was 107 degrees. And you can thank God smell-a-vision doesn't exist. It took a week of driving with all the windows open to get the stink out of the car. I'd say Bombay Beach in the summer is the closest you can get to hell without actually going there.
@@jdandyfilms Even in its heyday, it was known that the Salton Sea would eventually die due to pollution and rising salinity levels. It took a while for environmental degradation to reach a critical stage.
If I had the ambition, I would lead a project to connect the Salton Sea two-way with the ocean so that its water would be refreshed once every 3 years or so, and would turn the land around it into prime real estate. There would be lithium mining and energy production.
@@jdandyfilms yes they have a Ferris wheel, bungee jumping (not for the faint of heart) and some other ride that is also (not for the faint of heart) lol. Not sure if all are 39.00. I think the 39.00 is to go to the top. They have like sightseeing at the top too.
Being in harmony with nature and allowing Tulare lake to rests lush wetlands vs having farmland to grow food supply we need! Difficult choices and no easy solution.
Thank you for the drone images and all the reflections. I believe that post-pandemic, the feeling of isolation has grown in proportion to our social behavior - which has also changed drastically. Maybe the suburbs are a reflection of this, this American lifestyle with a high workload, where these beautiful homes are only occupied when sleeping. It really seems like there is no life. And I know that living in the suburbs was once a dream, but perhaps today it represents emptiness.
Looks really boring. I’ve heard that you can’t even change a color of your house without an approval. But on the other hand it’s safer and more relaxing than urban areas.
JD why do you feel the Suburbs are ruining people's Life. I never heard of this. Usually, folks say that the Urban Area's mess up your Life. Can you explain what you mean by this. Thanks for sharing and looking for more yout videos. 🌳🏠 🌳🏠🌳🚗🛻
Hey Brenda, thanks for watching! For me the feeling of isolation and car dependence aren't good for our mental or physical health. I know suburbia has its perks such as safety and space and there are plenty worse places to love. However, suburbia is endless urban sprawl which isn't good for the environment and contributes even more to feeling isolated. All in all, I think this feeling of isolation is bad for us and our communities and can negatively impact your life. But, that's just my opinion haha
Those who want the lake to return are woefully misled and ignorant. What was once a wet swampland is now a home to many (including myself). This land provides businessmen with opportunities, families with livelihoods, and millions of other people throughout the world with necessities. I don't see a damn thing "foolish" about any of that. Also, it's pronounced too-LAIR-ee and Kings County (with an "s").
Maybe foolish wasn’t the right choice of words. That being said I think there are pros and cons to the lake not being there anymore. The amount of money and jobs this area has created can’t be understated
Thanks for being so respectful of this area and its inhabitants. So many of the creators who post content on here about the Salton Sea just seem to want to exploit its more freakish and bizarre aspects for clicks.
I moved to California 20 years ago, and I love nearly everything about it. However, it frustrates me that the state leadership only yells at private individuals who use water for plants or lawns or other tiny little patches of life. The farmers use over 90% of all water in California, but I don't hear a peep about them.
It was inevitable that I wouldn't be moved by the content of this video. Knowing the past and present influences of immense California was very educational. Beautiful edition. What an incredible sound design! What interesting text and research! The best part is your interaction within these scenarios. Just keep going, everything is impeccable. Thank you very much for the excellent work!
Here is the bottom line. Flood plains. If these people would have been observant, the geographic composition is different from place to place. The lake in California and areas around the Mississippi river are flood plains. This means that if there is an access of water, those plains naturally flood. And there is nothing anybody can do about it. Nature has its own economy as to how land is managed. Nature manages its own land. I find it interesting that when Lewis and Clark returned to Washington D.C and gave their report on the Western territories they said, "The West cannon support life the way it does here in the East." And over time, this has proven to be true. You can live in the West, but the East coast and West coast support life differently.
