Problem with the dividend for us who are not from the US is the 30% tax we're charged. Uncle Sam doesn't want us to invest in them.

I think they are still good. The yield, but they are estimated to hit $75 a share when rates are cut. So growth is involved

Sounds like a good place to park your money to not lose value because of inflation but not good to actually make money. I’d rather get VTI and other individual stocks like Microsoft and Nvidia.

Kind of. It's a good investment. Does that mean it will be the best % return in ten years? Probably not. But if you need money and don't want to draw down it is probably a good enough investment.

O is getting crushed of late, but that is a good thing because I buy a share each month. If it hits $50, I will by 20 shares, if it hits $45, I will by 25 shares, and so on. Let it drop while I establish my positions in it!

Bought it at around 60-62... Its a great stock for long term growth/dividend growth, but its the worst performing stock I currently own, I want to sell it as i have switched to higher yield income strategy now but im down too far to sell just gonna hold for the dividends!

Start from somewhere just a share, this is what I’m realizing it’s all about how much you can discipline yourself and how long can you continue at the current job your at to keep adding more. My first Dividend is coming up $8 my next one for next month I added more should be $20.50 or more if I add more shares. That $8 Dividend I’m adding back in, I have 79 Shares of Realty Income $O, going to get 1-5 Shares of $MAIN and $SCHD and keep adding on.m, but right now I want at least 200 shares of O

Dividends are fully taxable so when I hear 4.91% I automatically subtract taxes to get a lower number. Then I might as well buy Pepsi with Russ. Unless we are talking IRA or other tax differed account.

@@rynewilliams Does NYSE: O ( Realty Income ) give you a tax free "qualified dividend" or does it give you a taxable "ordinary dividend" or does Realty Income giving you a "partnership distribution" (similar to an M.L.P. oil field stock) that is taxable through a schedule K tax form (partnership distributions from MLP stocks or BDC stocks or REIT stocks are taxed similar to how ownership of an S corporation is taxed).

Take a look at ADC They are following an income realities footsteps however as they are smaller their new acquisitions have a larger out reaching effect. They will be able to grow their dividend faster than income realty these days

Realty Income seems to be the best choice for a lot of investors that want to add a REIT to their portfolio. It is consider very safe and stable. Very well diversified and performs good with solid earnings. Recommended for all investors especially those starting. I am getting more shares next week. As of now it is my only REIT on my portfolio. Excellent choice.

I bought and sold and bought some back. It is down so much, but the PE is 39 or 40 and that is scary .... if we have a Real Estate meltdown. What price do you think we'll drop to? It went down to $55 last year and I should have bought a bunch back then.

@@rynewilliams I think that NNN or Vici might be a better buy. Both are real estate investments, but the PE is much lower. It will be interesting to see how low the stocks go. I also bought some Altria, but it is acting very strange. I think a lot of people are leaving the market and getting 5% t-bills etc....with no risk instead at the moment.. .

I personally have O in my taxable account. You will report the income you received when you do your taxes. Your brokerage will give you a 1099 form with all of that info

They pay every single month no matter what the share price does. While dividends are never guaranteed, and the company could change their dividend policy at any time, this is the case as it currently stands

With a payout ratio of 274% they spend 2.74 for every dollar they earn. Dasn't seem very healty

In most cases you’re totally right. But with REIT’s like O we don’t pay attention to the payout ratio. A better metric to use is the FFO Payout Ratio which is about 80% right now. But REIT’s have to pay out a high % of their earnings by law

Look at the FFO Payout Ratio for REITs. If you go to seeking alpha now and look at the dividend stats for O, they’ll show the FFO Payout ratio

Hey Ryne I’m 16 and I’m using an account for my portfolio in my moms name so when I’m 18 I have to make a separate account in my own name and sell and re buy all my assets Is there any specific way I should do this fast or gradually. Or is there a way to transfer the assets over I use Robinhood by the way It is gonna hurt to completely reset my chart of my 2+ years of progress, but besides just resetting the stats of my portfolio by starting from scratch on a new account, will there be anything else selling and re buying the exact amount of assets I had on my original account will effect

If your mom set up a custodial account, it should transfer to your name. Otherwise, the broker can transfer assets into an account for you without having to sell anything

Kind of like Kevaleva was saying, you should be able to transfer those stocks to a different portfolio. I actually did this a couple years back through a process called ACATS transfer. Either ACAT or ACATS I don’t remember which one haha. But it was very easy, and makes it so you don’t have to sell your shares

I think it’s hard to compare the two. JEPI is a covered call ETF while O is a REIT. The only apples to apples comparison we can make is the dividend yield, in which JEPI has the advantage
