For anyone wondering everything the interviewee experience in his undergrad is 100% accurate. I go to a university that the big 4 highly recruits from. The path when taking accounting undergrad is dead set on you going either big 4 or MBB depending on if your tax or audit. Im currently in my MAcc and yes they do not advertise or teach you many financial analyst related topics except financial statement analysis. From a recruiting perspective and someone who has an offer at the big 4, a solid gpa like he said will land you the interview and from their it’s basically showing your relationship skills. Myself didn’t have a great GPA, I had a 3.3, the interviewer did mention it but I portrayed all my work experience over that so it is not impossible to get that interview without it. Also like he mentioned an internship is a great way to land an offer before you graduate. I did not do an internship but was still able to land an offer. Use what this guy said as gospel because it will definitely get you set up for a job at the big 4 if that’s what you’re looking for.

That's great and all, and I'm guessing you got into audit. Although you will want to leave after 2-4 years since the job sucks for a few reasons: pay sucks, work is boring and non-value adding, clients hate you cos you're the "auditor" and the culture of working immense overtime for very little recognition. You want to use audit as a stepping stone to another stepping stone to then get into IB, as the guy did. Don't stay in accounting unless that's really what you want to do - the Big 4 is certainly not as glamorous as you may think.

@@Swanmaster123 Yah I know it’s not glamorous and all the downsides. I’m coming out of college. Although you’re right for the most part I don’t think the pessimistic view will get anyone anywhere. I’m excited to start my career and I’m just giving those who are seeking to work for the big 4 a glimpse of the recruiting process and how to set themselves up. I know what I’m in for so keep the negativity to a min. It’s all about the experience brother

@@kylerussell6 I understand and I intended to be realistic, not pessimistic. It's good that you have that outlook - I was just like you when I started at the Big 4 and just wanted to provide some insight. All I'm saying is enjoy your first two years but after that, start looking at exit opportunities otherwise you'll get pigeon-holed into accounting roles.

RU-vid still a small (but growing) channel for WSO. Each of our pods gets ~2-3k listens :-)

I’m an undergraduate student going to work for big four for next 2 years. To switch from Audit to Private equity is it better to do an MBA, CFA or through networking. (And I’m not interested in doing CPA)
