I'm glad at least someone is calling the MK1 money grab for what it is. All the youtubers I've seen have been downplaying it , ignoring it or defending it.
Good take on this. This is ridiculous. The idea that it’s realistic doesn’t account for the fact that people that paid cash for these ships are going to have ships that are outdated before the game is even launched. Not to mention the fact that people paid for variants of these ships that the game barely supports.. people buying the ghost had a reasonable right to think there would eventually be mapped out stealth mechanics before their ship they purchased was retired. We are buying ships for an alpha test. Before they launch the game how many more ships will have a version 2 before the game ever goes live? It would seem like a better idea to flush out game mechanics, server stability, and gameplay before we start returning ships for new versions.
Yeah I totally agree. I get that it may have needed a more significant rework than some more recent ships to bring them uo to standard. But I can't help but think that old standard will always be trailing the Mk2. Given that it's a combat focused ship you're stuck between nostalgia and "rarity" or what is likely a more competant ship at it's role.
Who knows maybe Mk.5 by the time the game releases. I don't like thst they're setting a prescident that this behavior is OK. Maybe thet retire the vanguard next?
@kaventiaplays exactly. This just enables them to simply make a MK 2 or 50 and sell a whole new ship, rather then have to spend time and money on giving a "gold pass" to ships they already sold...I fear we are going to see more of this
Yeah, it's like dangling the catrot of missed opportunity, while giving "last chances" for something else, it is clever and a little manipulative sales psychology.
Yeah, i know this happens in aviation, but imagine how annoyed you'd be if you pledged this 9 years ago and find out it's an inferior and retired fighter.
I love it. It brings more realism to the verse. Seeing a manufacturer phase out the older version of the ship for the new "airframe" makes sense. This is the oldest ship design in the game, and rather than just update it, they created some lore where the manufacturer has designed a newer airframe based on the same style. I used to work on fighter aircraft, specifically the F-15 which went through many variations. The older aircraft are amazing, but the newer models are more advanced. It's not as if the older airframe is worthless, it is just older and has been phased out of production. I am definitely keeping my F7C-M Super Hornet, and yes it will become more rare in the game. Nobody is forced to buy, sell or keep the F7 Mk I variants. These terms "FOMO" and "Money Grab" are just socialist ideological idiocy. Enjoy not flying anything in any amazing game in your socialist world.
I’m sorry bud but this is does force an upgrade if they want to continue being competitive. And where does it end? This game is the most expensive game in history and we haven’t even made it out of alpha. We have a reasonable right to assume that we will have a ship that’s not outdated when the game is anctualky if ever released if we are dishing out real money for something in alpha testing. I’m all for capitalism but I also despise unfair and shady trade practices. This simply shows very little concern and loyalty to backers.
Cool that you got to work on F-15s. I like it from a narrative / lore perspective. I don't like it from a buy it now before it's gone forever method of manipulative marketing. Also what has any of this got to do with socialism? I assume you're from America where the term solcialist is thrown around like a curse word?
Socialism is dumb as hell. But even I know FOMO and money grabbing are real terms. Hell, money grabbing is synonymous with just plain being greedy. Anyone or any company can get greedy. Expecting players to double dip, upgrading their now outdated ship, to the next best model of it THEN doubling down and saying well that first version is now going away forever, that is EXACTLY exploiting fear of missing out and being greedy trying to milk a ship they know likely won't sell as much given that it has a new and updated version. Not to mention you can't even buy it for in game currency as well. You have to be trolling.
Its timing more then anything this would make more sense if thiscwas happening on release of star citizen but its still in development how can you retire a ship before the game gets released.
