Hi my name is Ashler, Im 26 and Ive been knitting for about 12 years now. Im currently finishing off a sweater i started a few years ago. Im using this method in the round, and im just enamored honestly! I really admire your skill! I wanted to let you know that this is the COOLEST bind off method ive found yet, and i love your video. Suzanne, with the second method, how do you set it up if you begin with 2 purls instead of 2 knit stitches? I can’t thank you enough for everything I’ve learned from your videos. You’re always my go-to, and my knitting sisters now look at me as a knitting master. 😂
@peanut8337
@peanut8337 5 месяцев назад
@Javainthebox I don’t know if you figured this out eventually, but I had this issue myself recently. I did a P1, slipped the second purl off the needle and held it at the back of my work, worked the K1, then put the purl stitch back on the needle and worked P1, K1, P1. Every time I needed to swap a purl and knit stitch, I held the purl to the back of my work, worked the knit stitch, put the purl stitch back on my needle, and worked the purl stitch. It seemed to work quite well and I didn’t notice any difference in doing it this way compared to how it is shown in the video with 2 knit stitches at the start of the row.

@SuzanneBryan
@SuzanneBryan 2 года назад
What a great question. Yes, you can make a smooth transition in the round for the bind off. For that last loop on your needle when all the stitches have been bound off, cut the yarn and pull the loop open (do not pull tail through the loop, but pull the loop out). Then thread the tail on a tapestry needle, find the first bound off loop on the beginning of the round and take your tapestry needle under it (like a duplicate stitch) then take the tapestry needle down through the opened loop, to close it, and then pull up until the bind off edge meets perfectly from beginning to the end. Then weave in the end.

Loved the tutorial! I've watched others and never did the tube bind-off because it was so confusing. You made it crystal clear. When I measure 5 times the circumference of the neck on my sweater, I end up with a very long darning tail. Normally, I like to keep these tails short to avoid fraying. How do you handle this situation.

Thank you, Suzane! I have two edge stitches at either end of my scarf. I slip the first and knit the last TBL on each row. When working the first bind off variation, should I treat the first, slipped stitch as a purl and bind it off according to how purls are bound off in sequence? Or should I work it together with the first stitch, which is a knit stitch, and treat the pair as one knit stitch? Thank you! I love your videos and often refer to them - for many years ❤️

When you say ‘oops’ at 17:55, something odd happens - i think you drop off that first knit (after having picked it back up) and it wasn’t time for that yet. I’m following you (trying to finish sleeves) and all of a sudden, we don’t match! Maybe I’M wrong, but i’m doing it many times and something seems wrong.

How would you do this or what do you suggest for a 3x1 ribbing sewn bind off? Thank you for all you do!

This is so helpful, thank you! When you saw that you insert the needle into the "second purl" at 13:45, do you mean the first purl of the next set of purls?

Great tutorial,thank you. I am ready to cast off the welt of a top down cardigan. The pattern gives the Italian bind off which I would like to do. I have 290 stitches to cast off and I’m using 4ply/fingering on 3mm needles. I need about 3 metres of yarn to complete the cast off. The yarn becomes overworked with pulling through each stitch. Would it work ok if I use shorter lengths joining them in as I need along the cast off edge, or please could you suggest another solution. Thanks so much. Mary

I do what you are suggesting. I use shorter, more manageable lengths and then splice them together as needed. This is going to look wonderful! 🧶

Hi Suzanne. Is this method possible for 3 x1 ribbing. Ie 3 knits then 1 purl. Thank you.
@SuzanneBryan
@SuzanneBryan 2 года назад
Hi Rebecca! Generally speaking, you would want your ribbing even, so 1 x 1, 2 x 2, etc. You can try a 3 x 1, but I would swatch to see if you find it appealing for your garment. Thanks so much for watching. 😊

Thanks Suzanne, you videos are so clear and easy to follow! What invisible bind off do you recommend for a 3x3 ribbing?

Thank you so much Suzanne for this tutorial. It’s very helpful and has very thoughtful tips. My problem is I’m working on my cashmere sweater that use double strands, one of them is very fine partner thread. I’m working on the body and rib and ready for bind off the ways you showed us. I left the yarn enough b4 cut off but it’s very difficult to work with. It get so tangled and hard to fix at each step. Do you have any way to solve this problem. I was thinking of cut a shorter tail and if not enough just tied them up. But it seems so crude. Please advise. I’m anxiously waiting for your help. Thank you

Suzanne, what if the ribbing starts with p2? How to re-arrange the stitches and setup for tubular bind off when it starts with p2?

Hi Suzanne, I'm doing the tubular cast off on the top of a sock, should my second round beslip the knits and purl the purls? You teach so well, thanks in anticipation.
