Built many of these myself. A great look! My wife loves them! No ugly shelf brackets to get in the way of shelf items when using multiple shelves. SIMPLE TIP: Drill your dowel holes first, then cut the 1 1/2" mounting strip. That way the holes will virtually line up perfectly. Then, in the already partially drilled holes, you can drill the dowel holes deeper in the shelf as needed. This will allow for easy slide on/off and then removing the mounting strip if you ever needed for painting your wall or whatever. Then your set screws will work as designed. I use one set screw on each end, plenty sufficient and secure. Thanks for the awesome video!

Being a limited funded retiree I have no funding to contribute, but my wife and I will be praying for you all and,if funds free up, we’ll send something! God bless and keep up the good work! I’ll be making two such shelves for our parish rectory using your technique! Thanks!

Great build. When I build it I think my final planning will be after the studs are in place and the two boards are in position. Thanks for the great idea. Looks really great.

I just watched your video - I did the same thing with the blind mount - The only difference was that I had longer bolts and I pre-drilled the holes before cutting off the mounting portion, this allowed for the holes to line up easier . - I do love the look of the live end - That is some incredible workmanship.

Perfectly imperfect! I am going to adapt this idea for some lumber I harvested last year and is almost dry enough to build with. It is 12/4 rough cut with a chainsaw and will be milling/planing it soon. It is spalted maple that has some beautiful lines and colors. Thank you for the inspiration on woodworking!!

clever idea. I have a LOT of people asking for floating shelves I usually build box type shelves that are hollow inside to accept hidden brackets that are attached to wall studs but sometimes people want a solid chunk of wood like this , this is a great idea, even with that seam in the back portion its pretty decent.

looks great,I made something similar for a friend, used 10mm rebar, 8 inches long, drilled into a block wall, matched the drill holes onto a 9x2 pine board 6 ft long, sank the rebar into the shelf, pushed the rebar into the wall but left a 1 inch gap from the wall to shelf.

One addition I would suggest for the retention screws, is to mark their position on the screws and grind a small groove into the pin for them to seat. Assuming you got the pin alignment dead-on, a locking channel for the screws would mechanically stop it from being pulled out. That's a common grubscrew retention method on car parts, which is what I primarily deal with.

Loved this project! I 'borrowed' this idea, except I used oak dowels and dimensional lumber to give the kids bathroom some extra storage and a decorative touch. The only thing is, when I made the shelves, I had to prime and paint that bathroom so everything looked fresh and new. Funny how a simple project turns into three! Thanks again for all that you do for us out here.

Looks amazing buddy. Like you mentioned if the wall isn’t exactly straight the bracket piece will pull into the wall unevenly and once assembled giving you a small gap in the middle (in this instance) this could also explain the tight fit as the outside pins will be toeing in slightly. Maybe a small packer on the center fixings on the wall could solve this.

Great job. Nice idea. Not sure if anyone else has said this but an easier way to get the straight edge is to attach a board to the scrap that over hangs the cutoff and parallels/meets the cut line. Then just rip on your table saw using the attached board against the fence. If you don't have enough space to attach to the scrap, use double sided tape to attach to the keeper instead and cut the same way. Great job anyhow, liked the tip of mixing the epoxy on tape, easy clean up.
