The 70s and 80s was absolutely the best era for both pop and rock music. An era when mostly bands ruled the airwaves, unlike the crappy solo artists of recent times.
Actually that era still rules music. Disco (edm), punk look and attitude on pop stars, metal still sells out arenas, funk is everywhere, and rap is the most popular. All from the 1970's
INXS legends, The Oils so awesome. Peter Garrett is a charismatic and energetic Rock'nRoll hero. Michael Hutchence was the heart and soul of INXS. R. I. P.
Wow, wow, wow. INXS at its best. Here you can find what did make later this band so famous. Flawless performances, polish sound and the looks that girls of the time liked.
Anyone that lives on, A freedom we can draw from, today is not everyday, but can you scream & still be understood. .That',s a yes in my book, just wow as I see the people in the crowd, they are all legendary, they came out for something greater, than their individual selves. What a show they got. Amen
Great memories of seeing inxs and the oils in Australia live in 1985, and here in England a few years later, and midnight oil in 2019 in Manchester, England. I loved a whole heap of oz/nz bands from my time in Australia from 81/86, best time to have been there I reckon🎸🇭🇲
It would've been good to have been alive at these shows. But when you were born around this time (like me), these songs and sounds carry a certain added mystique. I think this is why the 80s keeps coming back: the music was phenomenal.
I was at this concert. Very young and very excited at the strength of numbers and undeniable charisma of performers who cared deeply about the environment.xx
@@cycologist7069They were in all States in Australia as far as I remember, to raise awareness and to protest the use of nuclear weapons that both Russia and the USA threatened to use in the Cold War. No-one wins. Just Stop the Drop! At the same time a movie came out called The Day After which showed average civilians facing the aftermath of nuclear war. It shocked and educated the audience and gave me a sense of doom. I thought as a young person, what’s the point if it’s likely to happen….
@@Kate-1stJan2024 I'm sure they were touring all over Australia at that time period, but I was curious where this particular concert being filmed was held.
It took me a while to figure out what "the drop" was. When I finally see closer that it's a mushroom cloud, I was like "oh!". 1983 was the year some Soviet radar centre detected a bunch of incoming ICBMs and the operator, Stanislav Petrov, made a decision he was very unsure of: he decided that it was a malfunction.
There was no other large venue in Melbourne at this time, that's why nearly everything was at the Bowl. The Olympic pool became the first major indoor venue when it was converted into the Sports and Entertainment Centre (Glasshouse) in the mid-1980s.
Rob Hirst is a left handed drummer. How cool is that! Check out him playing the Snare and the High Hat (on the right not the left) Only found out a few days ago. All those years ago and I never even noticed. (Bragging Rights) Rob gave me and my friend Tickets for the Fisthermans Wharf Concert on the Gold Coast. after being kicked out of Festival Hall in Brisbane but (got back in care of our "Oils" most keyboards' brilliant. ONE OF THE BEST, ORIGINAL AND MOST TALENTED DRUMMER ON THE PLANET (including song writing brilliance.) Yes I AM A FAN!!! CJ (Watch ya gramma') Words and drums are great buddies........peace (The NSPI)

@@SkiRacingOz Yes it was still Giffo the bassist of Midnight Oil he was going to be replaced between the end of 1985, and Giffo left the band for health reasons
Oils live rendition of us forces was always gonna be the highlight with Australians annoyance of always being America's lap dog and the off kilter riffs just make it even better everyone in the front row chanting Pete's lines.
AAaaahh,c'etait le bon temps,on etait jeunes et beaux....Dire que j'ai partager un joint avec Michael a Strasbourg en 1986....Bon,nous on est toujours vivant!
How I wish the Oils were more Globally successful. Of all the bands I've paid to see live, Peter makes me mesmerised everytime. Him and Bon. Michael was sexy eye candy. Michael matured as INXS progressed through the 80s. BUT Bon was there wowing us at day one in the 70s with his cheek, wit and connection to the crowd. Angus was his court jester and brilliant. We upsettingly lost Bon. 😢 Then comes along this powerhouse of an entertainer and activist called Peter Garrett who makes you just stop and watch. His dancing, his command, his take over of the entire stage. Fucking Amazing! Michael became a music video clip success. He had the looks. Peter and Bon had the raw stuff and God so great. Funnily enough, I have watch those dumb American RU-vid mojo polls amongst others. Peter and Michael rank nothing as frontmen. Bon is lucky to get a foot in. I wish I knew how to make my own videos from an Aussie perspective to set this wrong straight.
@@cycologist7069 Yes. Absolutely. That man is a legend and I kick myself for not mentioning him when I wrote that. Also one for the ladies is the legendary Chrissie Amphlett.🍻✌🇦🇺
I continue to live in hope the Oils will follow Chisel with an official bootleg series and if so the full Stop The Drop gig will finally see the light of day.
Concert to speak out against the prospect of nuclear war. 40 years on what have we learnt? "Stop The Drop was held at the Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne on Feb 13, 1983, and was put together to bring awareness to the growing dissent amongst Aussies at the thought of a nuclear war between major players on the world scene (namely USA and Russia).". (Triple M)
G’day M8 I think the point he’s making is that there aren’t 17,000 fucking iPhones being waved around, pointed at the stage. Peeps are actually enjoying the gig.
Andy Smith don’t get me wrong! It is annoying, personally I wouldn’t film a show, I would sit and enjoy the moment, but him typing that comment.. you could technically say he’s being a hipper critic.
Aquellos años maravillosos yujuuu ahora se escucha mucha música basura, estos si eran verdaderos conciertos que pena que el cantante de INXS se haya ido 😢❤️
